I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!
Here's some quick Halloween Safety Tips:
The safest place for your pet on Halloween night is at home! Not all dogs are comfortable going out trick-or-treating OR greeting trick-or-treaters at their door. So utilize a calm spare room in your home, a crate that they are comfortable in, or a series of gates/pens to keep pets away from open doors and trick-or-treaters.
And if you opt to bring your pet trick-or-treating with you, keep in mind that many of the props and decorations in front of houses can be scary for them. Especially ones that move or make noise. All the kids running around, especially in costumes, can also be pretty frightening.
Keep your pets on a short leash (no flexi leashes) and away from homes and crowds, giving them space to avoid anything that may frighten them. If they seem overwhelmed, bring them HOME. Only allow kids/parents to approach with caution, or not at all, as even the best behaved dog can bite if they are scared or overwhelmed.
And finally - make sure to keep any candy out of their reach! Candy is yummy for us, but can be deadly for dogs - especially chocolate!
