Plumas County Animal Services, a department of Plumas County (CA) Sheriff's Office, is the animal control offices for our county.

We deal with domestic animals. Please call the shelter at 530-283-3673 to make an appointment. Animal Control Officers can be called out to the field for animal emergencies, so the office is subject to temporary closures with little notice. If you have an animal emergency (dog attack, etc.,) please call PCSO dispatch at 530-283-6300 to have an animal control officer dispatched. Social media accoun

ts are handled by an off-site volunteer who may not have the most current information. While messages will be responded to, inquiries of interest in adopting a specific animal should be called in to the shelter, not sent to social media. Adoption fees are $10 for cats and dogs. Unaltered puppies and kittens require a refundable spay/neuter deposit. Dog licensing fees for Plumas County are $15 per year. The City of Portola handles their own licensing. UPDATE IN MEMORY “Willow,” the dog who was found tied to a tree in the woods, has passed away. 🌈 We wonder if her people knew she was sick when they abandoned her a few weeks ago. We wonder if they hoped that someone would find her and give her another chance. We wonder if her people know how she curled up on a comfy bed and chewed on squeaky toys in our front office as she struggled more and more to breathe in the last few days. We did our best to be your family, sweetheart, and we were there to say goodbye when the doctor helped you over the rainbow bridge. We love you and will miss you. Run free, sweet girl. 🌈♥️

UPDATE 5/20/24 WE ARE OUT OF VOUCHERS, PLEASE WATCH OUR SOCIALS FOR UPDATES. We have a LIMITED supply of Spay/Neuter Vouchers for pet dogs and cats. Vouchers are available at our shelter in Quincy for appointments in May & June, 2024.

• Household voucher limits may apply
• Per grant terms, vouchers are not valid for feral cats

5/23/24 UPDATE ROXY IS BEING FOSTERD AT THE MOMENT!!!!!!ADOPTABLE: 24-0097
Roxy is one of our all-time favorites who has returned to the shelter through no fault of her own. Her person is being deployed and we appreciate their service 🇺🇸. She gets along well with other dogs and people, we’re not sure about cats. She loves to run and play, and knows basic obedience commands. Please give us a call if you’d like to meet this beautiful girl!

ADOPTABLE: 24-0068, 24-0069, 24-0070, 24-0071, & 24-0072 are from a litter of owner-released puppies. They’re around 4 months old. They look like a lab mix, but only a DNA test will tell you for sure. There are 3 males and 2 females. Please call the shelter for more information.

Animals shown are models only. Please check adoption listings for currently available animals.

When stray pets arrive at the shelter, they are scanned for microchips, posted on local lost/found pages and/or on PCAS social media. Pets are then held for five business days before being evaluated and placed for adoption (or available to rescue organizations for adoption). We are a no-kill shelter, which means we don’t euthanize unless absolutely necessary for a critically injured, suffering, or vicious animal. We work closely with local veterinarians to provide care for animals who come in with illness or injury.

Animal Services-related County Codes can be found on the Plumas county website (at plumascounty.us , select Animal Services under Departments) Leash laws and Dog at Large policies are detailed there. The shelter is staffed 365 days a year, but is closed on weekends and holidays.

Need a barn cat? Plumas County Animal Services is pleased to offer spayed/neutered feral cats as barn mousers. These are not family pets, they are not socialized, and they definitely don't want to sit on your lap! They do, however, want to live their lives with access to shelter, water, and a place to hunt!
