There is truly no place like home, and we have a shelter full of animals who would love nothing more than to spend the holiday’s with you. ❤️

Quincy Humane Society’s Home for the Holiday’s program gives a shelter dog 6 months or older a break out of the shelter environment! 🐾

If you live in Adams County and wish to open your hearts and homes to a furry friend in need, now is the time! The week of Christmas, we are looking to give some of our wonderful dogs a much deserved break, and a cozy home to spend the holiday in. 🎅🏼

Everyone, we would like to officially introduce you to Elvira, and her 10 puppies! ❤️

Miss. Elvira is a 2-year-old Terrier mix, and she was the absolute best momma to these babies! She loves to snuggle, go on walks, and would make a great addition to any family!🎄

Her babies are 8 weeks old, and are Australian Shepherd/Terrier mixes! 💚 They are all incredibly sweet, playful, and snuggly! 🐾

They are all available for adoption, and would love nothing more than to find their forever homes this holiday season! 🎅🏼🏠

As begins to wind down we want to introduce you to Peaches. At 4 years old he had recently been diagnosed with diabetes. It’s hard for a diabetic cat to get his blood sugar to a normal level while in the shelter environment. Fortunately, we have a foster who is a pro at diabetic cat care and jumped in to help us get his levels more stable. With support from donors like you we have been able to provide his foster with a glucose meter and testing strips. Can you help us continue providing the needed medical supplies for animals like Peaches?

Happy Thanksgiving to all! Enjoy this special holiday with your loved ones and your purrrfect animals if you have them!💙

Thank you all those who volunteer! From cleaning kennels, walking dogs, and working alongside our staff to provide the best care for our animals. Thank you for giving your time and love to our furry friends!

Thank you to our fosters as well. Without fosters, countless animals each year wouldn’t have the ability for one on one attention. Our fosters make a huge impact on our animals and we are truly grateful!

To our adopters, thank you for giving animals from shelters a loving and furever home, and providing animals with the loving care they need!

And to our community, we are grateful to have you and wish everyone a very happy thanksgiving!🐾

Our Story

The Quincy Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, now known as Quincy Humane Society, was founded on July 20, 1880, and is one of the oldest, continually operating humane organizations in the United States. Quincy Humane Society did not begin sheltering homeless animals until 1939 at the 3100 State Street location. A few years later, Quincy Humane Society began assisting the city of Quincy with animal control problems and officially took over the Quincy Animal Control contract in 1980. In 2003, when the animal control contract was up, Quincy Humane Society decided to not place a bid on the contract, and instead decided to become a privately funded, no-kill shelter. The decision was made to focus on preventative programs to assist a wide range of clients.

Each year, Quincy Humane Society holds several fundraisers. Our two largest fundraisers are the Mutt Strut (Fall) and the Fabulous Fur Ball (Spring), The Mutt Strut is a family friendly event where participants can take their furry friend on a mile walk, participate in different contests, and enjoy a variety of vendors. The Fabulous Fur Ball is a Vegas themed cocktail event with casino tables and professional dealers. We also hold several smaller fundraising events throughout the year. In order to keep our shelter operating, these fundraisers are critical to our success.

We are proud to be a privately funded, No-Kill facility. Without our generous donors and volunteers, we simply could not accommodate and care for all the animals that we help daily. Quincy Humane Society is always accepting volunteers that can assist us with a variety of tasks around the shelter and assist with community outreach events. Along with accommodating and caring for the animals in our shelter, we couldn’t save as many lives as we do without the dedication of our volunteers in our foster program. There are times when we take in animals that are not ready to be adopted and we have a wide array of fostering needs.
