Happy Independence Day from all of us Alpha Dog!!

We just wanted to throw out a few helpful hints for all our furry friends. Some things you can do to help your pet feel safer this holiday is to get plenty of exercise during the day, tired dogs feel calmer. Get a size appropriate crate which shouldn’t be much bigger than your dog. Put your crate in the basement or interior room of your home. Insulate the crate further from sound by placing the crate on carpet, or a thick blanket or rug. Place a large comforter, or blanket over top of your crate leaving the front open for ventilation. Create some back ground noise to drown out exterior noise by turning on a box fan, tv, or radio. Also potty your dog on a leash and well fitting collar, do this before it gets darks, do not take your dog out to potty in the middle of prime time firework hours. Have your dog in its safe place before fireworks begin. Please do not take your dog to see the fireworks, just because it doesn’t bother them now, does not mean they can not develop a phobia, dogs and fireworks do not mix! Be safe out there friends!!

The puppies are getting big! Today they moved into their new puppy area with doggie door access so when they are ready they will be learning to go outside and go potty. Today was also their first day trying big kid food!

The Havanese puppies are 1 week old today! Look how they have grown. Everyone is doing so good. Paisley is a wonderful mother. All the puppies are nice and plump!! Fat puppies are the best!!!! ❤️ 5 boys and 2 girls.

This is a hot and hefty topic, but you know we keep it real around here… 🔥

The unfortunate truth is that, in many scenarios, this statement holds validity. Regardless of our dog's good behavior, the unpredictable nature of other dogs in the environment poses a risk to our pets.

A lack of understanding of canine body language is widespread, leaving numerous dogs feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, and stressed in places like dog parks. These emotions can escalate and result in conflicts.

How do you choose to spend quality time with your dog, considering alternatives to the dog park?

Unfortunately we lost one little puppy. It’s not uncommon in large litters. 😞
We do have 7 puppies that are doing great. Everyone is eating, and p**ping, and wiggling all around. Paisley is a rockstar mom! We have 5 boys and 2 girls. ❤️

Good mamas are so amazing! I will be posting more video as puppies arrive. You will see how Paisley gently steps around them, moves them into a pile and spoons them. If the puppies are crying she is very attentive to see which one needs assistance. She makes sure they are all nursing. After they have nursed she will stimulate them to go to the bathroom by licking them. The puppies won’t go until this happens. As long as the puppies are nursing, the mom eats all the p**p and p*e, which is really nasty, but it’s how Mother Nature has designed it. This is how their “den” stays clean enough for the puppies to be healthy. It’s a big job for her!

At 4am she was sound asleep, so I went and crawled in bed for a few hours. Wake up at 6am and there are already 4 puppies here! They are all wiggling around and nursing so I haven’t checked to see if they are girls or boys. Still more puppies to yet arrive!

One of the things that happen right before mama dogs have their babies is they start nesting. When dogs nest they root around in their bedding flipping it all around. This is why Paisley only has one towel in her bed. She will continue nesting sometimes even after a few puppies have arrived. If there is big bedding available the puppies can get trapped inside and suffocate. After all the puppies have arrived she will get her good bed back. The next sign we are looking for is heavy panting. Hopefully she will hold off for another hour so I can get the rest of the dogs taken care of!!

So we are just hanging out today. Paisley is catching up on her Zzzzz’s before these babies get here!!!
