We are looking to add a Hospital Assistant who will be reliable and compassionate to assist in the daily operations of our shelter and clinic.
The Hospital Assistant will be responsible for the care and well-being of all animals in the shelter, including feeding and cleaning. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare and a desire to provide exceptional care to our furry patients.
Essential Functions:
• Feeds and waters animals in the shelter/hospital following safety guidelines.
• Cleans kennels, cages, and other animal housing areas in the shelter and veterinary clinic/exam rooms, ensuring that they are free of debris and f***s and meet applicable sanitation and safety
standards. Sweeping and disinfection of floors, cleaning of food/water dishes and litterboxes, emptying garbage, and hospital laundry duties are required.
• Monitors animals for signs of illness, injury, or distress and reports any concerns to veterinary staff or shelter manager.
• Assists veterinary staff and shelter manager with various tasks as needed, including restraining animals for exams, assisting with procedures, and administering oral medications in treats.
• Provides exceptional customer service to clients, including answering questions, addressing concerns, and providing education.
• Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions to fulfill the requirements of this position.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent required, with additional training or education in animal care preferred.
• Experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter, or veterinary environment preferred.
• Knowledge of animal behavior and care.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients and team members.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform other physical tasks associated with animal care.
Physical Demands:
The Hospital Assistant may be required to stand, walk, bend, lift, and perform other physical tasks associated with animal care, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
The Hospital Assistant will work primarily in a kennel environment, which may be noisy, with exposure to animal dander, hair, and bodily fluids. The position may require working weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
