Great information from the UW Veterinary School

Every year, pet owners inquire about the safety of poinsettias in their household. While not extremely toxic, poinsettia consumption can cause issues in the digestive system of your animal. Take precautions and introduce all new plants to your home responsibly.

Decorate safely

Decorate safely

Ornaments, tinsel and other holiday decorations surely make the season sparkle, but they can catch your pet's eye, too.

Hang delicate or breakable decorations higher up, out of your pet's reach, and consider skipping the tinsel, as it poses a choking hazard for pets if ingested. Some festive plants, like holly, are toxic to pets, and poinsettias can cause gastrointestinal upset or irritation if ingested. Opt for pet-safe alternatives or place them in unreachable spots.

And when you're not around to supervise tree lights, avoid electrical dangers for your pet by securing the cords to prevent chewing.

Last night we had the pleasure of giving a Cub Scout troop a tour and a lesson about what we do in a veterinary hospital. It was tons of fun. Our assistant manager and veterinary assistant Sue and her dog Sid showed the boys what a physical exam looks like. The scouts loved getting to listen to Sid’s heart. ❤️

We are proud of our receptionist Teri and the good work she and Hope Safehouse do.

🐾Thursday Volunteer Spotlight 🐾

Hello everyone! My name is Teri Sharp and I have a couple roles with Hope Safehouse. I am a foster mom of 41 as of 2021 (currently fostering Abe and Gigi) and volunteer for different things throughout Hope such as transport, office, vet appointments, and more. I am also the fundraising coordinator and one of the social media people. This week, I am starting a new Volunteer Spotlight that will feature one of our volunteers each week on Thursday. I think this is a fun way to meet some of the amazing faces behind our rescue! Being non-profit, we are completely run with volunteers, so I think it is very important to recognize all those who make this happen.

Some things about me...? Outside of Hope, i am a full-time Senior Pharmacy Analyst and part-time receptionist at North Shore Animal Hospital. I have an amazing spouse named Gary that you will usually see at events helping me where needed. I have 1 son Peyton (pictured below) and 3 wonderful bonus children Emma, Ava, and Warren who also are very involved with helping out!

We have 2 Miniature Dachshunds Moe (10), Lady (9), and have also foster failed twice...2 Great Pyrenees mix pups Macks (Formally Helmet-2), and Penny (was Penny-2). We also have 1 cat Baby (18). I enjoy event planning and spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy camping. traveling, history, going to the movies, and of course all things Hope!

I was introduced to Hope by Samantha. We have known each other since 3rd grade! She had a post looking to "feed" puppies... I messaged her like "I want to feed puppies" and next thing you know I am fostering a mom and 4 three week old puppies. The rest is history. Hope is an amazing rescue organization who gives nothing less than 120% to all rescues and volunteers! I am so thrilled to be apart of this Hope family!

I hope you enjoy our spotlights each week. These volunteers are the true VIPs of Hope Safehouse!. If interested in being apart of the Spotlight or have some ideas of things you would like to see, please reach out to me via messenger or email : [email protected]. Those featured will happen on 1st come basis. Thank you ❤️🐾
