Exciting news!

This was in my news feed this am. No idea the backstory of the post there is no context, however…

Let me be completely clear. It’s not easier to shave a dog. It’s slightly easier for me to take a guard comb and scissors to groom your dog than it is to do a buzz cut. And it looks much better. If you are a client of mine, you know when you tell me to do whatever I want, I don’t shave your dog. We don’t make more money doing a shave down than we do on short pet trim. It’s literally the same price to leave your dog an 1” longer.

However what is more work, and often inhumane, is doing 6 week or more of combing that wasn’t done at home in a short grooming session. I will not yank knots out of your dog. I will not spend time brushing a matted dog when the owners won’t be bothered to do it either. Can you imagine not combing your child’s long hair for a month then yelling at the hairdresser because they won’t brush it out? Forget split ends. That ain’t it.

Our days aren’t numbered. Because thankfully clients like this are few and far between. But the ones that are take to social media quite quickly to bash whichever groomer. They become gang bullies and get everyone on their matted dogs TikTok account to harass and intimidate said groomer.

We have a policy in place to protect us from such pet owners. We take before during and after photos which are sent to the owner. We get a release form signed by pet owners acknowledging that their pet will be shaved low due to matting. And we educate because not every matted dog is because of laziness, some don’t have the right tools or know how to properly use them. And we put them on a maintenance schedule so that we never run into this situation again.

When you adopt or buy a dog you agree to take care of said dog. If you ever have questions about grooming your pets, we offer free consultations and lessons. Because we don’t want to see you on TikTok crying because your matted dog had to be shaved.

Magnolia 🤍🐩🤍 was well overdue for grooming. I decided to use the opportunity to do some coat carving. Everything on her is her own hair, just dyed. The flowers are her right shoulder were super fun to do. My favorite is the bumble bee on her tail, it looks like it’s buzzing around when she wags it. She also has a caterpillar 🐛 on her hip. I wanted to do more detail but a piece to my airbrush was missing and it was not easy to do the grass on the feet. Maybe next time.

A tiny dog and a medium dog we’re running through the plaza today we had them checked for microchips. They do not have one however if you or someone you know is missing a small and medium size dog that hang out together give us a call 270-670-2367.

Confessions of a photo hoarder:

I went to Walgreens yesterday to print off 3 photos to hang in the salon. Well my 5 minute task took me far longer than anticipated. Yes, my phone does have 55,226 photos.. did. Before I even left the store I took 3 more. I’m probably at 57,000 now lol

When we do the Photo Booth photos we usually use the salon photo. But the before and afters and candids my groomer and I use our personal phones well, I’m wayyyy behind. I suppose it’s a good day as any to purge and post all the dog pics! So prepare for cuteness overload

Whew. That was a lot of work.
We still have some fine tuning to do but we have the majority of the work done and most of it’s out back together.

I loved the green and not every room was painted, but the purple helps brighten up the rooms for grooming while still having that calming feel.

I joke about us being Radcliff’s best kept secret because people always say “are you new here?” and we are not, we have been here since 2015!

However Radcliff’s best kept secret is actually Saunders Springs Nature Preserve. Located between Walmart Supercenter and Fort Knox is a quiet piece of heaven. 26 acres of woods and water there are hiking trails for all skill levels. It’s a perfect place to walk your dog because of the elevation and the cold springs the air is cooler and the ground is perfect for walking on the hot days.

So many people don’t even realize this place exists right here in Radcliff. Stop by after work, make a morning trip or spend a Sunday afternoon with the family. I recommend regular visits to recharge yourself. Its literally a breathe of fresh air.

We had fun at Thunder over Radcliff last night. Every year it’s a great show. You can see the excitement on my granddaughters face.

We did see a lot of dogs out there. Just remember, dogs ears are far more sensitive than ours. Even if your dog isn’t fearful, the noise can hurt their ears. They do make ear plugs for dogs.

Fun fact

AKC registered dogs do not mean well bred or pure bred. AKC registration requires no proof of paternity. It’s done on the honor system. It’s just a form.

Genetic testing, health testing and pedigree are what validates the AKC registration. AKC won’t ask that for breeding registration, only for showing and competing. I wish it was required for breeding. The animal shelters would be a lot less overcrowded if they did.

Dont waste your money on an AKC (or any other breed registry) title unless you have the other 3.

Enrichment snacks

We don’t have these for available for grooming sessions yet, but if there was interest, we would be happy to offer them. These are being worked on for our personal dogs (all 12 of them)

Ingredients include: pumpkin puree, kefir, blueberries, banana, red bell peppers, spinach, and sardines. Easy to make at home and freeze. Offer a few times a week.
