One of the greatest packages to come from the post office! These 27 babies arrived this morning all the way from McMurray Hatchery in Iowa. These are the chickens we will raise for meat alongside our neighbors Elaine and Dave. #Gingerbroilers #mcmurraysbigreds
It’s been a day of crazy weather here at the farm. It ❄️ earlier this morning, ☀️ early afternoon, and Hunter and I just got caught in a 🌧️ while filling our starter cells with dirt. Hunter said this calls for some hot cocoa! You got it buddy! I may be jumping the gun on the starts but according to the almanac planting guide (by zip code, which is awesome and pretty helpful!) today is the day! We will give it a shot! 🌱 🍓🥦🍆🫑🌶️🥒
Hunter has always been a chick magnet 😏. This little flock sure adores him like crazy. They hear his voice when he goes to tuck them in at night and they come running out from under their heater to greet him. He has the most gentle hands while caring for them! When we had Meryl
Cheep, who was sick, he would take notes of the care interventions we did on her and was so hands on with her care. He is just simply an amazing farm hand. 🥹❤️
Happy National Dog Day to our farm dog, Boone! He truly is the best!
We can’t forget our other great neighbors Lucas and Kelsi who loaned us a trailer to haul the cows away.
One of the life lessons taught to us was to always return something in better condition than when you got it. So now it’s our turn to pass on those lessons.
Job well done and a proud father moment as Hunter Ray literally shoveled 💩 and washed out the back to make sure the trailer was cleaner than when we got it. Great job son, proud of you.
Remember our chicks that we hatched 11 weeks ago? Look how big they are now! We still have the 8, with one of them appearing to be a rooster! We may have a second Rooster but it’s still a tad too early to confirm. We hatched these chicks from eggs from our Araucana and Barred Rocks eggs and got all Barred Rocks Mr Benedict (our barred rock rooster) has some strong genes! We transitioned them from the warmth of the garage and a heat lamp about 4 weeks ago to outside in this cage with a heat lamp. They are now old enough to go out to the big coop (along with their cage) for a couple weeks to transition them into the flock slowly. Wish us luck!
Ps. This is their first time out of their cage and with the Avian Flu locally we are very cautious about letting them out of the cage. It’s only for a bit while we get everything cleaned up and moved.
Meet Cinnabunny. She was a rescue from a poor living situation about 4 years ago. Sissy loves her “Nunny” and Nunny is very patient with Sissy. #chaneyfamilyfarm #smalltownhobbyfarm
Someone is very excited about the new little chick chicks!
No April Fools jokes here! We have some 🐣 hatching! Up to 3 so far!
