Do you know what the hip nudge means? Dogs will often show this behavior during a greeting. Have you ever crouched down to greet your dog, and your dog walks towards you, turns around, and nudges you gently with the hip or rear end? The nudge is friendliness, turning around means he/she does not intend to attack, and it shows he/she trusts you.

Miracle Part II

There are times when we all feel down and lonely. Sometimes a person can feel so alone, and trust me I have been there. Just recently I connected a couple of Existential dots through conversations with some of my clients. We all can get lost amidst the dark roads of life, when there is no roadmap to guide us. We become blinded by the shadow of our own isolation, that we fail to see that we are never alone. There is always and Angel with four paws walking beside you no matter what.
During a conversation with one of my clients, they reminded me of how much of a dog person they are. As she explained her love for dogs to me, I could see the joy in her eyes, and could feel the regard for her dog in her words. Her words pulled me from the fog, and reminded me that the dog is the only other species on this planet, that has chosen to live with humans.
Another client who has become a close friend said, she gets to relive her fondest childhood memories through her dogs. This to include even her dog’s name. Once again, the power of the dog reaches out through the passage of time, and can console you no matter how old you are.
I personally wear a silver angel dog pendant close to my heart. This reminds me of the four-legged son I lost. When I return to those memories, I smile, laugh, and sometimes cry. But in that moment, the pain in my heart tells me that my heart still beats. I am still alive to live another day, and to love another dog. I wish I could help every dog and owner with their K9. I know that at least, you who are reading this right now, may have a dog that depends on you. I know you will not let that miracle down, and you will always be there for your dogs, the way they are here for you.
I don’t think you need to be reminded that dogs will always be there for you. The dog’s sole purpose is to love you. They will love us even when we cannot feel love for ourselves. This is why we use them for Therapy Dogs, or Service Animals, or just as our beloved pets. Because of this, I thought of the Bon Jovi song Miracle. It’s not a dog song, but has a great message. When we are down and in need, our dogs are the miracle we need to save our souls. So please give the song a listen when you read this. If you’re not a Bon Jovi fan, I can understand. Just turn the volume down to zero when listening to it, LOL.

Dog speak for this week. Dog loss It's a very painful thing to lose a loved fur baby. Most people just don't understand that the bond is as strong as loosing a partner or child. The pain is as excruciating, and the heartbreak is shattering. I lost my Golden Retriever Einstein this year. And when I read online of others going through the same pain, I wished there was something I could do or say. So, I thought I would share this thought. The reality is, you need to keep in motion. Your Dog would have kept you moving had they still been at your side. It's ok to cry, to talk about how much you miss them. It's ok to dream about them. Take however much time you need. And when your ready, and you feel its time, it's ok to take another four legged miracle into your life. You may find that when you are ready, your love for your new pup will be a different love all together. You are not trying to replace your lost dogs love. You will find you still have room in your shattered heart for another new love. Dogs are proof that miracles exist. Let me leave you with a wonderful poem by Kipling. I have done mostly what most men do, And pushed it out of my mind; But I can’t forget, if I wanted to, Four-Feet trotting behind. Day after day, the whole day through— Wherever my road inclined— Four-Feet said, ‘I am coming with you!’ And trotted along behind.
