Our Southern Oak Family suffered an incredibly difficult loss last week. We said goodbye to one of the most gentle giant of “mares” there could be. We say that because Jess had her opinions like most mares but she really was so very sweet. Jess was a lovely Mare and a wonderful lesson horse. We all wish she could have lived longer here with us but God decided he needed her more up with all the other unicorns in heaven. Jess, we will forever be grateful for your time you gave to us, your grace as such a young ottb in a lesson program, and your lessons you taught each and every everyone of us. Rest in peace sweet girl. We love you to the moon and back. ❤️

💙 We are so excited to Welcome Chilibean’s Tidewater Twister “Twister” to the SOEC Family. Abby and Margaret picked this little guy out and bid on him in the 2023 Chincoteague Pony Auction. He will be coming home late August early September. 💙

Eve, we will miss you so much. You were an amazing lesson horse with so much to teach our young riders. You had your opinions. We loved them because they made you the lesson horse you were. You will forever be missed by so many at SOEC 💔. Saying goodbye to our four legged family members never gets easier. Eve, we love you and are forever grateful for all you gave to our program ❤️🦄

“I am a lesson horse.
I am a horse that isn’t as recognized as the top hunter jumpers, the best western pleasure horse, or the 1D barrel horse, I am a lesson horse. I am the backbone of the foundation to do all of those things. I am a lesson horse.
I am not loved by one person. I am loved by many people. I don’t have my person, I have my people. I am a lesson horse.
I will teach your child and yourself more than just to ride. I will bring your child out of their shell. I will teach your child about life. I will be yours and their shoulder to cry on. I am a lesson horse.
I will bring my family the joy of teaching kids. I will bring my family business growth. I am so loved by my family, even if they don’t express it everyday. My family allows others to show me love and enjoy me. I am a lesson horse.
At the end of your childs’ journey with me, they will out grow me. They will find one that jumps higher, a horse that is show quality, a horse much faster than me. But, I will never outgrow being a lesson horse. I will be the one that loved your child and helped your child grow into the rider and person they are. I am a lesson horse.
At the end of my time as a lesson horse; I will be covered in grey hair. Each grey hair came from each hour I spent as a lesson horse. I will be in a field of green grass, I will be taken care of as I was when I was a lesson horse. I will watch your child from across the pasture love her new horse. But, I will love your child more than any horse can. I will be the backbone of the business, the family, and your child. Don’t forget about me, I am a lesson horse.

Our SOEC Family suffered another heart breaking loss this past week. Our Sweet Ruby was laid to rest on Friday 11/4/22. Ruby was loved by too many to count over the years at SOEC. We like to think that the hallmark of a good lesson program is loving your horses to the very end even when they can no longer work for you. They give us more than we could ever ask for loving them until they leave us is the least we could ever do for them. I hope Annie and Penny met you warmly with knickers and you trotted off together rejoining your “old mares club” ❤️
