I’m pansexual.
And I’m a dog trainer—one who’s learned more about love, safety, and trust from dogs than almost anything else.

Dogs don’t care who you love.
They care how you show up.
They notice your energy, your patterns, your presence. They meet you where you are—without judgment, without conditions.

That’s shaped everything about how I train, and how I live. It’s why I built Pawlite Pups the way I did—with compassion, clarity, and room for people (and dogs) to just be themselves.

I carry privilege—being white, being femme, being partnered with a straight white male who makes me feel safe in a world that often isn’t. I don’t carry shame for that. I carry responsibility.

Because Pride isn’t just about celebration. It’s about courage. It’s about showing up—especially when it’s uncomfortable. Especially when others can’t.

So this month, and always: I’m here. I’m proud. And I’m building something that feels like freedom.

Human Prep for Reactive Dogs 🐾

I’m hosting a fairly informal, interactive session to help you prepare for next Saturday’s reactive dog prep session.

Here’s what I’ll cover:

•Understanding reactive behavior and what triggers it
•How to read your dog’s body language
•Strategies to handle tough moments
•How to prepare yourself and your dog for a smoother experience
•What to expect during Saturday’s session, where we’ll focus on practicing calm, controlled movement, not covering distance

This is a humans-only session tailored to who shows up. It’s a chance to ask questions, get clear on the plan, and leave feeling more confident and prepared for Saturday.

Being a dog mom means everything to me—it’s the only title I’ve ever really wanted. No one tells you that building your dream life comes with tangled leashes, treat crumbs in your pockets, and more late-night Canva than sleep… but here we are.

This is the busiest month I’ve ever had, and it’s only happening because of the people who show up, share, and remind me that what I’m building matters. To all the dog moms out there—the ones who chose this life with full hearts and zero hesitation—I see you. I’m with you. And I’m building this for us.

Happy National Dog Mom Day.

(And yes, the final video is brought to you by my supportive boyfriend and his deeply committed focus… on my butt.)

Your dog doesn’t just live beside you — they live with your emotions.
Not just through loyalty, but through their biology.

Science shows dogs read our faces, smell our feelings, and even mirror our heart rates.
They don’t just notice how you feel — they experience it with you.

This connection is powerful. It’s also why taking care of our own emotional energy matters — not just for ourselves, but for the dogs who trust us with their whole hearts.

When you’re overwhelmed and reaching for your dog, pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ground yourself first, even just a little.
Let your comfort feel like a hug — not a storm.

They’re always showing up for us.
We can show up for them, too.

This Earth Day, I’m reminded that sustainability isn’t just about the planet — it’s about how we show up for our dogs, our communities, and the spaces we all share.

The small choices I make in my work and daily routines are starting to feel like something bigger. I’ve started using , a local farm delivery service, which has connected me more deeply to the food I eat, the people growing it, and the impact those choices have on our environment. I pick up trash on dog walks — not because it’s my job, but because our dogs deserve to explore a cleaner, safer world. And I’m choosing to avoid dog treats, food, and gear that are harmful to their health or the planet’s. Cheap plastic toys, unnecessary packaging, low-quality filler ingredients — it all adds up.

This work is about more than training. It’s about helping people raise dogs with intention — and that means thinking about what we consume, how we walk through the world, and how our choices affect those who can’t speak for themselves. Supporting local farms, buying responsibly, and keeping our trails and sidewalks clean isn’t just good for the planet — it’s an extension of how we care for our dogs.

If this speaks to you, I’d love to start sharing more about how we can train, live, and care in ways that do less harm and give more back. Because Earth Day shouldn’t be once a year — and raising a dog with respect should include the ground they walk on.

Being a woman in business—especially in spaces built by men—isn’t just about showing up. It’s about standing unshaken in the face of doubt. It’s about speaking louder when we’re told to be quiet. It’s about proving, over and over, that we are not here by accident—we are here because we built this.

Dogs have shown me what leadership truly means. It isn’t about control, force, or ego. It’s about trust, patience, and the quiet power of consistency. In a world that too often confuses strength with aggression and kindness with weakness, I choose to lead the way they do—with resilience, with purpose, and with the unwavering belief that change is not only possible, but necessary.

As women, we know what it means to fight for space. To be overlooked. To be questioned. But like every dog I’ve ever worked with, I know this: when given the right tools, the right support, and the freedom to step into our power, there is nothing we cannot do.

Here’s to the women who refuse to be tamed. The ones rewriting the rules. The ones leading with both fire and heart. We are here. We are building. And we will not be stopped.

Want to join the Reactive Dog Pack Walk? Start here.

Reactivity isn’t just about barking or lunging—it’s an emotional response shaped by stress, environment, and past experiences. Managing it effectively starts with understanding why it happens and how to set your dog up for success.

That’s why this FREE humans-only class is the first step before the upcoming Reactive Dog Pack Walk on Sunday. This isn’t just another group walk—it’s a structured, intentional experience with in-person demonstrations and guided exercises to help reactive dogs and their owners navigate the world with more confidence.

📍 Flight Deck (Durham, NC)
🗓 March 27th | 7 PM

What we’ll cover:
🐾 The science behind reactivity—what’s actually happening when your dog reacts
🐾 How to read and respond to your dog’s signals before things escalate
🐾 Techniques to prevent outbursts before they start
🐾 What to expect at the Reactive Dog Pack Walk and how to prepare

Even if your dog isn’t ready to be around others yet—whether they’re extremely fearful, highly reactive, or need more one-on-one support—this class is still for you. You’re welcome to attend on your own to start learning the skills you’ll need when they are ready. I’ll also be evaluating dogs at the pack walk to ensure they’re in the right environment for their progress.

🐾 Join Our Pack Walk! 🐾

I’m excited to lead the TCC x Pawlite Pups Pack Walk on Saturday, Feb 22, at Umstead State Park! My full attention will be on guiding a fun, structured, and safe walk while addressing any questions you might have.

Why Participate?

•Structured Socialization: Pack walks provide a controlled environment where dogs can learn to calmly coexist with others, enhancing their social skills without the unpredictability of off-leash interactions.

•Mental and Physical Exercise: Walking in a group offers both physical activity and mental stimulation, leading to a more relaxed and well-behaved dog.

•Reinforcement of Training: These walks are an opportunity to practice leash manners and impulse control amidst real-world distractions, reinforcing your dog’s training in a practical setting.

Is This Walk Right for Your Dog?

This particular walk is best suited for dogs comfortable around other dogs. If your dog exhibits signs of reactivity—such as lunging, barking, or growling at others during walks—it might be beneficial to attend without your dog this time. Joining solo allows you to:

•Learn to Identify Reactivity: Understand the signs of reactivity, which can include behaviors like lunging, barking, or growling at other dogs or people during walks.

•Gain Handling Techniques: Observe and learn strategies to manage and reduce reactive behaviors in various situations.

•Prepare for Future Participation: Equip yourself with knowledge to help your dog feel more comfortable in group settings, paving the way for their inclusion in future pack walks.

We plan to host a specialized walk in March tailored for reactive dogs, focusing on creating a supportive environment to address and manage reactivity.

Meanwhile, my own dog is not thrilled that I’m leading a walk without him… 😴😂 (Swipe to see his reaction.)

📍 Meeting Point: We’ll gather at the furthest parking lot from the entrance, closest to the lake—signs will guide you!

When I started Pawlite Pups, it wasn’t just about training dogs. It was about contributing to a movement rooted in compassion—for animals, for people, and for the communities that bring us together. This Valentine’s season, I wanted to do something that reflects those values and helps give hope to those who often go unseen.

That’s why I’m launching “Beyond the Storm: A Mountain of Love,” a donation drive for Misfit Mountain Animal Rescue in Clyde, NC. After Hurricane Helene left property devastated—roads washed away, fencing destroyed, and access to clean water gone—they’ve continued their fight to save animals in need.

From pigs and chickens to dogs and cats, Misfit Mountain is a refuge for the misfits—the animals who have nowhere else to turn. But now, they need us. As the world moves on to the next disaster, these animals are still here, waiting for someone to remember them, to help rebuild the safe haven they so desperately need. One day, it could be our community & our animals, who need this same kindness.

Let’s not forget them. Let’s be the ones who show up for the misfits, the forgotten, the ones who can’t ask for help themselves.

Today, I had to do something I never recommend: pick up a reactive dog.

Why? A child, about 10 years old, was walking a tiny chihuahua and repeatedly fake-chased me and the dog I was handling. It was clear neither dog was comfortable with the situation, and yet the behavior continued.

The parent, walking behind with another dog, apologized once but didn’t step in to stop their child or correct the behavior—not even after I spoke up.

This wasn’t just frustrating—it was unsafe.

How to Teach Kids Respect and Responsibility Around Dogs

1️⃣ Respect Boundaries:

•Teach kids to recognize basic dog body language: growling, tucked tails, or avoiding eye contact all mean “I need space.”

•Explain why chasing, grabbing, or startling a dog—even in play—is never okay.

2️⃣ Safety Comes First:

•Kids should always ask before approaching a dog and learn how to calmly interact with them.
•Show them how to respect a dog’s space, even in public, and explain why their actions affect the dog’s comfort and safety.

3️⃣ Model Responsibility:

•Walking a dog isn’t just about holding a leash—it’s about understanding and meeting the dog’s needs.
•If kids can’t handle these responsibilities, they aren’t ready to walk a dog alone, let alone care for one full-time.

4️⃣ Be Honest About Your Family’s Readiness for a Pet:

•Puppies and small dogs especially require calm, consistent environments. If your child struggles with impulse control or understanding boundaries, think carefully about whether bringing a pet into your home is the right choice.

A Message to Parents

If you’re not willing to actively teach your kids how to respect dogs and their boundaries, please don’t get a pet. It’s not fair for anyone.

Dogs deserve more than love—they deserve understanding, respect, and a safe home environment where their needs come first.

We can do better.

What’s something you’ve taught your kids about respecting animals that you wish others knew? Let’s share ideas to raise more respectful and responsible pet owners together. ⬇️
