Got a pup that's easily distracted? We feel you! It's frustrating when your dog lunges towards every squirrel, bird, or stranger that walks by.
But what if we told you that you can achieve OFF LEASH RELIABILITY with your furry friend? It's possible!
Here are some tips to get you started:
Train in different environments to help your dog generalize their learning.

Maisie has continued to make leaps in bounds in her board and train. Extremely proud of her progress! She's fine with the scooter riding by her as well this just happened to be my favorite video because of the little woohoo. 🥹

So excited to be at Red Earth Thunder that she had to do her best Thomas Davis impersonation. What do you think? Does she have a shot Carolina Panthers NFL ?
Did a rampaging hippopotamus get into our facility!? Nope! That's just Eli, one of our board and train clients. We are working on his recall today and, let me tell you, when that much muscle is bounding towards you, you want your dog to know their manners. Reach out to Red Earth Thunder dog training if your bowling ball with fur could use a little tune up!
The purpose of training isn't to have a dog that only listens in your home, but that listens anywhere. At Red Earth Thunder we believe in letting dogs be dogs, within reason. Here you'll see a very young puppy (13 weeks old) investigate a turtle for the first time. She wasn't posing an immediate danger to the turtle, so I allowed it. It is ok to let dogs explore their world. However, the key to safe exploration is intervention BEFORE she becomes too interested. The most common mistake I see pet parents make is being reactive instead of proactive. Being proactive sets your dog up for success and is much easier than trying to correct inappropriate behavior later. If you'd like your dogs to be this solid around distractions, shoot us a message and see what Red Earth Thunder dog training can do for you.

Being cute has its perks. Unfortunately for small dogs, those perks come with some problems. Cute little dogs are often allowed to get away with a lot more than big dogs. Jumping, growling, and even nibbling is considered so cute and harmless. Unfortunately, no matter their size, all dogs have the same instincts. And allowing your little dogs to get away with unwanted behavior can snowball to dangerous levels. Resource guarding is a problem with a lot of dogs, but it can be especially difficult to correct when your dog is used to getting away with everything. In this video you will see a particularly tricky case we are currently working with. She has shown some resistance to our usual tactic of teaching "leave it" and "drop it". Follow us on our journey and see how we adjust our training techniques to resolve this resource guarding behavior.
