SPCA of Wake County - K9 Crew To highlight dogs available for adoption at the SPCA of Wake County in Raleigh, NC - especially those that are long timers.

The K9 Crew, an initiative of the SPCA of Wake County's Behavior Team, is a group of trained volunteers that focus on highlighting some of the dogs who linger at the SPCA. The K9 Crew was first called the "Pit Crew" and originated to repair and rebuild the reputation of the American Pit Bull Terrier in our community. That work will continue as we move forward as the K9 Crew.

You may have heard the news that our friends at WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center have had to make the difficult decision to temporarily close their doors in order to quarantine an outbreak of life-threatening canine respiratory illness.

We currently have no reason to believe that any of the pets at SPCA Wake have come into contact with this illness, so for the time being, SPCA Wake will remain open and function normally. However, we will continue to closely monitor our population for any warning signs and respond accordingly.

We realize that this temporary suspension of WCAC's owner surrender services and other resources will affect many pet owners in our community, so we encourage those needing assistance to take advantage of our Pet Helpline at spcawake.org/helpline — our Helpline provides personalized counseling and resources for lost/found pets, pet rehoming, vet care and pet supply requests, as well as a wide variety of other topics. We will also be centralizing more of our resources to the immediate Wake County community during WCAC's temporary closure. So please don't hesitate to reach out — we are here to help!

Thank you to the folks at WCAC for your diligence in working to contain this outbreak to protect the pets in our community.

Lastly, we will keep you updated with any changes at the situation evolves!
