Our 2nd Senior Sunday pet is Noah. Noah is an 8 year old boy who has lived in one home for his whole life. They are moving and unable to take him. They describe Noah as a friendly guy who likes to lounge in the sun and stretch out on the floor. He is good with all children and other dogs after a slow introduction. He is house and crate trained. Unknown with cats. Already neutered.

An Emergency Foster Orientation will be held this Wednesday 7/3/24 at the shelter. It starts at 6pm. No need to sign up but you should be there before it starts at 6pm.

PSA: Let’s not waste our energy on complaining about the prior owners. We don’t know their story. Let’s only show positive energy here and help Noah and all of his buddies find a home.

Our Senior Sunday Featured Pet is Ari.

This pretty girl was surrendered at the mature age of 10 on 6/12 to the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center.
Her owner gave no reason for surrender but told us she was an indoor cat, sweet and friendly, who was afraid of the dog.
Understandably she is confused on why she is in a cage vs a home. She meows for attention, probably looking for her owners, but then is surprised and backs off when a face she doesn’t know approaches. The volunteers are working hard on building trust but with a full house at the shelter it’s hard to find enough time for everyone.
This kitty needs to find a patient family who can prove to her that love and a great home last forever.
If you have the heart to adopt a mature girl who might need time to adjust, please come meet her.

The shelter, located at 820 Beacon Lake Dr in Raleigh, is open for adoptions from 12-6 every day.
If you aren’t the right home for Ari but have love in your heart for a pet, please come meet the many animals at the shelter. I’m sure the perfect match can be made.

The WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center is full. 100 animals have come into the shelter in the last week. These are just those animals. Many more can be viewed at https://pets.wake.gov. Over 300 animals are being housed at the shelter in hope of adoption or rescue organizations. This 4th of July week will be the busiest of the year for lost pets. And those pets will be coming into a shelter with no more room.
PLEASE HELP:
- If your pet is lost, go to the shelter and RECLAIM them.
- FOSTER if you can. Two Emergency Foster Orientations are being held this week:
Saturday 6/29/24 2pm https://www.facebook.com/share/TUGft4tPMXrzLabR/
Wednesday 7/3/24 6pm https://www.facebook.com/share/ckg6BinrhTBDw3SC/
- SHARE this post.
- Help friends/family to KEEP their pets and not surrender them to the shelter. Provide food or help rehoming.
- ADOPT
The Wake County Animal Center is located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh NC. They are open for adoptions 12-6 every day except holidays (they will be closed on 7/4).

We need immediate HELP!!!!

Can you help? Can you foster a dog, a cat, or kittens. The shelter provides all supplies and medical care, you just provide the temporary home. If you are interested in fostering please come to a special foster orientation this Saturday from 2pm-5pm at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center. This is an open call to anyone in Wake County who can help by fostering. The orientation will run all 3 hours and will cover everything you need to know plus you can meet the animals on our adoption floor who need a foster home ( any pet not on stray hold can go to foster). We can get you started this weekend.

This is urgent right now because the 4th of July is coming up and the shelter MUST have space to intake strays who get lost during this time.

06/28/2024

After taking in almost 150 animals over the last three days there are only two cat kennels, five dog kennels, and zero rabbit enclosures left in the building.

We have over SIX HUNDRED animals in our care (222 on the adoption floor, another 134 in the back of the Center, and an additional 279 in foster homes).

To add to this crisis, Independence Day is one of the highest-intake times of the year and we desperately need to make room for incoming animals who will escape their homes and go missing over the coming days. As the ONLY animal welfare organization that intakes strays in Wake County we must have space for these animals.

We are begging for the publics help with the following:

ADOPT - if you or anyone you know are looking to adopt, NOW IS THE TIME. Starting today, through Sunday, July 7th, we will be waiving the adoption fees for all adoptable animals in our building. All other adoption restrictions and policies apply. Check out our adoptable pets at pets.wake.gov

FOSTER - we need foster homes NOW! Our fabulous Foster Coordinator has scheduled two Emergency Foster Orientations. We need fosters to take dogs and cats ASAP from our adoption floor so we have room for strays. We also needs fosters to take kittens who come in but are to small for the adoption floor. If you can foster please come to one of the orientations and we will get you set up and find a match for you.

Saturday, June 29th from 2pm-5pm - https://www.facebook.com/events/1013059283514346/

Wednesday, July 3rd from 6pm-9pm - https://www.facebook.com/events/3386826298285985
Please encourage anyone you know to attend.

REUNITE - if you know someone whose pet is missing, make sure they are checking the adoption gallery - pets.wake.gov - multiple times per day and come check WCAC at least once every other day. As the designated stray-intake facility for the entirety of Wake County, we must have room for incoming animals. Reuniting a lost pet with the family who loves them is another way to help us make space.

Meet Ryan! He is already neutered and READY TO GO HOME!!!

This handsome two year old is looking for his forever home. He was initially overlooked due to a Cherry eye but recently had it operated on and thrived in his temporary foster home post-surgery. Now, he's more handsome than ever and will be leaving his foster home Friday afternoon to once again be located at WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center. While some redness still remains, the benign bulge which was once blocking his gorgeous brown eye is gone.

Ryan is a big, strong boy and enjoys walks outside, especially if there are birds, squirrels, or rabbits to spot (make sure to walk him with a harness because he will spot them before you do and try to chase them - hold that leash!). He's crate trained (just throw a few treats in there and he'll easily go in) and won't potty in his crate. Ryan adores playing with toys and chewing on bones, but treats are the best things EVER! If you're someone with a fenced in yard or accustomed to walking bigger dogs and are looking for a loyal companion, Ryan could be your perfect match!

During a playgroup session, Ryan was quite confident playing with female dogs. He has not had stellar interactions with male dogs, so we recommend a home with a confident, tolerant female dog.

If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to his previous foster mom at [email protected] or come visit him any day from Noon until 6pm at 820 Beacon Lake Dr in Raleigh, NC.

This is Daniel. We recently found out that Daniel loves playing in a baby pool and chasing the hose water around. We also found out that he played well with other doggies during playgroups. He’s basically perfect and waiting for you to come meet him at WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center any day from noon until 6pm.

“The volunteers say I am great on walks. One volunteer even sat down with me and I gave her a great kiss on the cheek! I wait till out of my kennel to do my business, I like to keep my personal space clean! I am only 3 years old and very treat motivated. I already know how to sit! I really want to please humans so I will try really hard.”

BOYFRIEND ALERT!! This long legged ginger is as handsome as he is sweet. Pekkel has such gangly limbs that he could outpace most dogs in their game of chase. During playgroups, he was so sweet and inviting to another female dog, and she fell hard and fast for this Romeo-like red dog. Epic playbows and rolling for fun were just a couple of the ways that he engaged his playmates. Pekkel was friendly and so eager to play at full speed.

He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times.

If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our volunteer matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Pekkle 250718".

The Wake County Animal Center is holding TWO large foster orientations scheduled for 6/29 from 2-5pm and 7/3 from 6-9pm. These are for everyone interested in fostering - to learn about the program, get instructions of what is needed from you, what is provide for you and why you are needed.

If you are on any form of social media, you know the situation with shelters nationwide is DIRE. Especially in dogs, but we are also high into kittens season, so the need there is also great.

Just an FYI, this isn’t a “drop in” type thing. It’s from start to finish. It may not go the full three hours, but it is slotted for that to answer all your questions and to take you for a tour if you want. But it IS a lot of information to pass on. 😊 We’re saving lives, so it isn’t something we take lightly at all. Can you join us?

Meet Mitch, I got to walk this kiddo for the first time today and we became fast friends. His energy is just so much fun.

Mitch is mighty sweet and ready to go on adventures with you. He is confident on leash but also follows your lead. He takes a little time to warm up, but we feel like once he knows you're there for him, he will make a steadfast companion. You'll notice that when he walks, he has a swagger, which only adds to his sweetness.

If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our Volunteer Matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Mitch 249799."

He is up to date on vaccinations, flea/tick, and heartworm prevention, is microchipped, and will be neutered prior to going home. If you have dogs or cats, we recommend slow introductions over time. If you have children in your home, we recommend supervision between animals and children at all times.

This guy loves to go, go, go! He absolutely loves life and wants to enjoy every second of it. He does pull on leash so he should wear a harness when walking or have a fenced in backyard.

Kendrick is always smiling! We don't know if he's smiling because he's happy or because he wants to cause trouble, but the smile is always there. The volunteers have said that when he's first out of his kennel, he's high energy. Once he gets his energy out, he's all about snuggling and sniffing around for any food or treats which may have dropped on the ground.

If you're interested in learning more about this 2-yr old male, please reach out to our Volunteer Matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Kendrick 249773."

The WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center is now open (12-6 every day) and Isaac is waiting for you to visit him. Who said the shelter doesn't have young dogs!

Isaac is pictured in his favorite pose, snuggling. This 6 month old, 30 # boy is a little shy at first, but eager to meet you and make you happy. He has that puppy energy, but will respond to loving training. He seems to respond more to encouragement and love, than to treats. While on walks, he might try to walk in between your legs, which is his way of saying he needs some confidence and guidance. He is super goofy and loves hugs. Plus, who can resist that underbite?!

During playgroups, he was just irresistible. Such a cute and goofy little guy sliding around, because he hasn't quite grown into his paws yet. He did well in a mixed s*x group of four dogs. Fun puppy play.

If you're interested in learning more about him, please reach out to our Volunteer Matchmakers at [email protected] with the subject line "Isaac 249300."

You can find Isaac and all of his friends at this link https://pets.wake.gov/gallery/249300

Senior Sunday Pet
Patrick is a senior at nine, but in cat lives that’s just the beginning of his senior life. Patrick was so sad when he arrived. He was found as a stray and street life is hard. He was also probably missing the home life he used to enjoy. But the wonderful volunteers let him know that he was loved at the shelter too. As any senior gentleman would, he likes his alone time … BUT… he also has times when he just wants affection. He enjoys petting and a volunteer easily picked him up. He enjoys long naps and watching visitors but what he’d love most is a family to call his own. He is already neutered so he can go home with you today.
The WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center, located at 820 Beacon Lake Drive in Raleigh, is open for adoptions from 12-6 every day. Please come by to meet Patrick and the many other great animals waiting for homes.

This is Beans. In case you don’t speak shelter dog, let me translate.
“Please give me a forever home. I love my foster mom and dad and my fur step sister, but I want a home I can call my own. I’ve been good. I am on my best behavior. I am house trained, crate trained, walk well on leash, and get along well with my elderly fur step sister. I recently went for extra training and I can’t wait to show my new family what I learned. I heard Mom say she’s going on vacation out of country so I can’t go with her. I’ll need to go back to the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center. They’re really nice to me but all of those dogs and people scare me. I need another home now. Would you contact my foster mom at [email protected] and come see me? Thanks”

It is never too early to plan and prepare for Fourth of July fireworks.
I’ve done my checklist:
✅ Updated microchip info
✅ Ordered calming oils
✅ Made sure safe place is ready. For my scaredy Gina it’s in the pantry. Blankets in case she needs a fort
✅ Phone number on collar

Be Ready. My dog retreats into closets. If yours is a door dasher take precautions with a gate surrounding the door. Tell family/friends they can’t open the door without you nearby. If your dog is a fence jumper do not leave them in the yard. Walk them in the yard.

The week around Fourth of July is the busiest at the WakeGov Pets: Wake County Animal Center and all shelters. Don’t let your dog run away. Make it easy for neighbors and others to return your dog without sending them to a shelter that is already full.

It’s your responsibility to protect your dog from scary fireworks.

Sun's out, tongue's out!

Beat the heat with this water loving pup! Sweet Diamond loves playing in the hose and jumping through the water. She is very playful and energetic in the yard! She loves squeaky toys and running around with her volunteer friends. Then, she wants all the love and affection you can muster. Come meet her at the shelter this weekend!
