This is Porfi! He is a mixed breed dog - primarily Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd. While Porfi does get excited about playing with toys, he’s generally a pretty laid back guy, especially considering his breed mix!
Porfi is working on building the ability to stay comfortable, and focused in busier environments! While this lesson was held in his backyard, we will soon take the skills practiced today on the road!

Would you like to learn how to perform maintenance grooming in a fear free, low stress way? Our Fear Free Certified trainers with experience in grooming would love to help you select appropriate tools and learn how to perform these tasks at home.
Maintenance grooming may include nail care, ear care, and teeth brushing, as well as bathing, body brushing, detangling, undercoat removal, wiping wrinkles, combing beards, and more! Dogs of all coat lengths can benefit from learning to be comfortable with different tasks.
There are many advantages to working with your dog at home, for example: You can break the process up into tiny bits over the course of a few days, your dog can learn to enjoy the process in the comfort of their own home with their own person, and it’s a great complement to Professional Grooming services at a salon.
Learning to maintain your dog’s coat at home does require an investment of time, and to acquire any necessary equipment, but it’s also an investment in your pup’s health. We offer Virtual Coaching sessions, which are a great option for this; visit our website or reach out for more info!

Congratulations to Bentley and his family for completing our Gold Puppy Program! 🏆🎉
Bentley has successfully mastered crate training, potty training, sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, scratch board and more!
His family has worked incredibly hard to ensure that Bentley gets the structure, enrichment, and love that a puppy needs to grow into a healthy and happy adult!

One of our virtual clients recently sent us an update on Wallace the Irish Setter. 😃
Here he is trying a new sport… dock diving! 💦
We love getting updates from clients about their dogs and their continued journey in training together.
Wallace lives in Washington DC and did training with us as a puppy. Later, we worked together again, on behavior modification for leash reactivity towards other dogs in his new apartment.
Dogs do so much for us in our daily lives. The least we can do is provide enriching experiences (like dock diving lessons) in return!
I hope to hear more updates about Wallace as he is truly a wonderful dog with an equally wonderful owner!

Bentley is practicing being calm around the presence of other “dogs” in this photo.
When we work with clients who have a dog that exhibits leash reactivity towards other dogs we will often use a “dummy dog”. This is a stuffed dog that we can control more easily than a real dog. We can control how far away it is from your dog, if it moves or walks, and if a human is near it for distraction purposes.
Eventually, we will build up to using real live dogs. But for now, it gives his owners a chance to practice timing and sets Bentley up for success since the “dummy dog” is less lively than a real dog.

Hades and Muninn are 12 today! Originally adopted in Massachusetts from , they’re thriving in their senior age as Southern kitties. Hades and Muninn are patients at ; we are thankful for their excellent care of our senior pets. They enjoy treats, sunny spots, comfortable beds, and watching birds from their window.

Did you know that cats enjoy enrichment and training, too? With treats and a clicker, or other marker, your cat can learn to follow cues, and perform tricks. Cats are very intelligent, and positive reinforcement training can go a long way to build a lasting bond!

Meet Olive! She is such a beautiful and sweet girl. However, she doesn’t like to share her food or prized possessions. As trainers, we often refer to this behavior as “resource guarding”. Together, we will be working on helping Olive feel more secure when other dogs are close to her favorite items.

It’s World Collie Day! 💜🐾🌎
Collies are very beautiful, special dogs; they’re intelligent, sensitive, and loyal. A well bred, well socialized collie is generally a friendly dog - they get along with people, other dogs, and enjoys being included in their family’s daily activities. Collies are playful, and full of humor; they’re also known for being “big talkers”!
For many families, collies can be an ideal versatile companion breed.

Meet Max! He’s a Shiba Inu who has been working through reactivity both inside his home, and while out on walks. He has been doing a brilliant job building the ability to remain neutral!
There’s no question - Max is ridiculously adorable! This leads many people to attempt to interact with him. Max highly values his personal space, and his guardian has been doing a fantastic job advocating for him.
Dogs have varied personalities, and some don’t enjoy being touched by unfamiliar people! Remember to always ask before interacting with a dog.

This may seem simple, but it’s no small feat!! Daisy the Golden Retriever is working on navigating reactivity towards dogs, flying bugs, and birds. In this video you can see Daisy disengaging from a dog running in the distance! We met at a park to practice, since large open spaces lend themselves to helping us set dogs up for success. It’s much easier to work with a trigger you spot in the distance, and this is more challenging to do in neighborhood environments where triggers pop out from houses, and around corners!
