We are excited to be working with Henry and his people! Henry developed separation anxiety after some changes in his home and we cant wait to see him recover.

Separation Anxiety / Isolation Distress is a common dilemma for dogs. It is akin to a panic disorder and these dogs are not “acting out” but rather truly distressed when alone. Each time they are left alone and experience panic their fear of being alone gets worse. Using a customized gradual desensitization and counterconditioning plan we help dogs gain freedom from this anxiety and their guardians gain freedom to come and go!

Go TEAM HENRY - We are here for you and will share updates.

Meet Dilly! He recently retired from the show dog life and was adopted by a lovely family. However, Dilly is a little nervous of his new dad and would bark at him sometimes for hours.

Once we showed his new dad how to better interact with him using body language that is less threatening to a nervous dog, they have start to slowly become friends. I’m so excited to see how this relationship progresses with time and patience!

Reese had a great time meeting and working with a new person during her lesson. Socialization is such an important part of owning a dog. But this can look different for individual dogs. Some dogs love to interact with new people and some dogs prefer to watch from afar. Both reactions are an acceptable form of socialization to new people, places, and things.

Do you have a “Dog Plan” for Halloween Trick or Treaters? 🍬👻🐾

Here are some ideas to get you started with your plan!

🎃 Take your dog out to potty before the trick or treating starts so that they don’t have any scary encounters!

🎃 Prepare a special mealtime enrichment item for your pup to enjoy while trick or treating is happening. A frozen Kong, lick mat, or puzzle toy work great!

🎃 Drown out any scary noises by leaving the radio, TV, or sound machine on for your dog.

🎃 Consider sitting in the driveway or on the front porch to greet trick or treaters so that your dog is not constantly bothered by the doorbell ringing. This will also minimize the risk of your dog darting out of the front door.

🎃 If your dog seems stressed, consider leaving a bowl of candy outside or just turning your lights off and calling it a night.

Helping reactive dogs be less spooked by other dogs (real or fake) is one of our favorite behavior issues to work on.

Behavior Modification often takes life style changes and time. But it’s so nice to see the dogs make the shift from being afraid when in the presence of other dogs to being neutral.

A couple of years ago I went to a haunted house with some friends. I noticed a young girl who was about six years old with her family. At first, I though she was a little young for the event. But I was delighted to see the very creepy actors try to scare the adults but then pull a piece of candy out for the small children. By the end of the night, this little girl was running up to all of the scary actors with her hands out for candy.

This is similar to how counterconditioning works for reactive dogs. But instead of the other dog giving them candy, your dog looks to you for a treat every time they see something scary.

Congrats to Deeks and his family on completing our Bronze Program! 🎉 Deeks was recently adopted from . His family needed some help getting him settled into his new home and routine. They also wanted to introduce him to some basic obedience skills and boy is this cutie smart! Deeks caught on so quickly to everything we taught him! I can’t wait to hear about his future training journeys as we think he would be a great candidate for dog sports!

This might look like it’s just a photo of two Beagles in the woods, but it’s so much more!

This is actually a photo of two very good and proud Beagle boys who quickly pottied outside when asked to!

Buster and Tanner were recently rescued from . They hit it off so well and love to play and wrestle together. But, sometimes they get so into their game of play, that they forget they are supposed to potty outside. With lots of patience, frequent potty breaks, supervision, and consistent rewards for potty outside, they are finally making great progress! Hooray for Buster and Tanner! Nice job boys!

Meet little Jack! 😍

Jack is a one year old Poodle/Jack Russell Terrier mix. Jack was found by his human mom, on the side of the road. He was starving and near death.

Now that Jack is healthier and feeling at home, we are working on people coming for visits, walking on the leash, learning to play with humans and relax while his parents are chilling too.

Jack has had a very hard beginning and felt very scared and unsure about life in general.

Dogs who had a stressful beginning need time to decompress and with support, enrichment, and understanding, they can live a fun, happy life.

I feel grateful to help Jack and his parents build a wonderful relationship.

Just two Westie pups named Rex and Roxy looking like the cuties they are after practicing their loose leash walking skills!

If you have a puppy that often stops to watch new things on walks, let them! The world is brand new to them and exposure to new things on walks is part of the socialization process.
