🦷 Protect Your Pet's Smile! 🦷 Here are some more tips to prevent periodontal disease in your pets:
- Regular brushing: Aim to brush your pet's teeth daily or at least a few times a week using a soft toothbrush or pet-specific toothbrushes and pet-safe toothpaste.
- Dental check-ups: Your vet can provide professional cleanings and identify any dental issues early.
- Providing dental chews and toys: Provide dental chews and toys designed to reduce plaque and tartar buildup. These can help clean your pet's teeth as they chew and play. The Veterinary Oral Health Council has a great list of recommended products (https://vohc.org/accepted-products/)

Keep your furry friend’s teeth and gums healthy with these simple steps! 🐶🐱

🦷 Keep Your Pet's Smile Bright! 🦷

Periodontal disease is the most common dental condition in dogs and cats. By the time your pet is 3 years old, they will very likely have some early evidence of periodontal disease. This condition will worsen as your pet ages if effective preventive measures aren’t taken.

Your pet’s teeth and gums should be checked at least once a year by your veterinarian to catch early signs of problems and keep their mouth healthy.

Check your pet's teeth sooner if you notice any of these issues:
- Bad breath
- Broken or loose teeth
- Extra teeth or retained baby teeth
- Teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar
- Abnormal chewing, drooling, or dropping food
- Reduced appetite or refusal to eat
- Pain in or around the mouth
- Bleeding from the mouth
- Swelling around the mouth

LOOKING FOR CANINE HEROES!!
See if your dog can help! For more information please visit: https://www.veterinaryemergencygroup.com/services/blood-bank or email VEG at [email protected]

Just as humans require blood donations for critical medical cases, so do the dogs we love. Unfortunately, there is an ongoing shortage of canine blood. Our friends at Veterinary Emergency Group in Cary are addressing this issue by ensuring a consistent supply for their emergency hospitals and local veterinarians. They are looking for canine blood donors to help save lives. 🐾❤️💉.

The power of microchips!

On October 2, Tucker wandered into our MLVS home base, barking his head off, terrified and lost. Clearly, he had ventured through the woods, only to find himself in a corner outside the house, screaming in fear. With a collar displaying his name and microchip, and a recently groomed, well-kept coat, we knew he must have just escaped from his home.

We managed to slip a leash over Tucker's neck and guided him out of his corner. After scanning his microchip number, and with assistance from PetLink, we found his owner—residing in a neighborhood just beyond the woods. Tucker had escaped home, likely spooked by something.

Luckily, Tucker calmed down after spending some time with us, recognizing we were kind folks. Just 15 minutes after our call, his relieved owners arrived to take him home.

Please microchip all your pets, whether they’re indoor-only cats or dogs that never leave your sight. Accidents happen, and even if their collar comes off, a microchip can still help identify them.

MLVS can microchip and register your pet anytime. Alternatively, look out for microchip and Rabies clinics hosted by the SPCA and Wake County Animal Services. 🐾
