I’ll do a more in depth welcome to our new followers later on, but I wanted to do a brief introduction. Meet Jaqweenie and Orson! They are my good (enough) boys. Both are rescue dogs who were found as strays. They are excellent father figures to all our foster puppies. Jaqweenie (spotted fellow) is the disciplinarian who rules with an iron fist and Orson (pug mix) is the fun dad.

Fabio (1,000 year old cursed gargoyle) is a foster who will probably stick around for a while because it’s proving difficult to find him a home without other dogs that also has a yard for him to blindly bump around in.

I know a lot of you came for my little bee sting queen Clouds, but I hope you’ll stay for these goobers. They are the main characters on this account along with a rotating cast of foster puppies. 💕

Clouds and her littermates are officially available for adoption! Thankfully Clouds and her siblings Seven Saturdays and Big Boss have fully recovered from the bee incident. Plus, with the revenue generated from their viral post, their emergency vet bill has been covered! That’s thanks to so many of you sharing their ordeal so thank you! 👏👏👏

The Local Brew litter are incredibly playful and affectionate. I think they might be Pitbull mixes, but the shelter listed them as Boxer mixes. While their parents are a complete mystery because these babies were found alone as strays, I expect they’ll be medium sized dogs when they’re fully grown.

I included Fabio’s picture because this little man needs a home too! Just because he’s 1000 years old doesn’t mean he’s any less deserving of a loving home! He’s had a rough life and could really use a lucky break.

Poor Clouds has been through the wringer! I gave her a quarter of a Benadryl before driving her to the vet to make sure her airway didn't close up on the ride over. The vet gave her a shot of Benadryl and steroids for the swelling. If you'd like to contribute to her medical care for you can donate to Hope Animal Rescue. Can anyone guess where we’re headed?

If anyone is looking for a puppy with questionable judgment, Clouds will be available for adoption in a week from . You can fill out a generic application at HopeAnimals.org. I know she looks like a gerbil, I expect her to be a medium sized dog.

*This is not how I usually travel with pets. I always either use a crash tested car harness or a crate to keep them safe, but in this situation, I felt it was best to not waste time putting the crate in the car.

These stairs will be the death of me. We’ve had two people fall through them so far. We’ve saving up to build a brand new, state of the art, puppy motel so fixing them has taken the back burner. 😬

Orson is just a little bit scared of Fabio. Fabio doesn’t like dogs getting in his personal space and growls if he notices it happening. Because most of the time Fabio isn’t aware when dogs are near him, he seems like a real wildcard to Orson.

Getting a good picture of all 4 of them proved too difficult for me this morning. We’re babysitting (🥔 dog) so her supervisor can have a little R&R.

Getting our blind foster Fabio () to look at the camera is no easy task. Enjoy the last two pictures of the boys screaming because the noise I made to get Fabio’s attention set them off.

Nothing makes me feel prettier than hanging out with this wrinkly ball sack of a dog. 🥰 Meet my newest fosters: the Local Brews! Your next drunken and disorderly roommate awaits!

I’ve never had such outgoing puppies. The literally hit the ground running. As soon as I got them out of their travel crates they were immediately running around playing and using their dog door. There was no tentative exploration. Just immediate fun. They’ll be on ’s website in a week and available to take home in two weeks.

Thanks to my buddies and .cheveralls for helping me bathe and trim these puppies nails. That is no small task! Jamie came up with the brewery theme. 🍺

Happy Juneteenth! Today I’d like to express my appreciation for Orson not being a racist. He can be fat phobic, ableist, and even hat + beard biased, but he’s no racist. To be clear, none of these things are deal breakers for Orson, but they make him nervous and it can take him a little longer for him to warm up to people who are different. I know, weird coming from the original Orson Freak.

I hope you’re doing something cool to celebrate this special day. I was planning on participating in local festivities, but then I decided to get 9 more foster puppies instead.

Fabio made it through his surgery! He needed 21 teeth removed and has 6 teeth left. His vet said she normally has a strong stomach, but his teeth smelled so bad she had to give him a breath freshener. And that’s saying something because his breath has greatly improved since he’s been on antibiotics the month he’s been with us! When we first got him just opening his mouth to administer dewormer left me shaken.

The 4th picture is his bladder stone so don’t look at it unless you like gross stuff. His vet estimated it was about the size of a nickel or a quarter. It’s being sent off to be analyzed. He’s going to feel so much better and will hopefully stop p*eing his pants.

Fabio feels awful right now and is doing a lot of moaning but I know these procedures are going to be a game changer for him.

We appreciate everyone who donated to make Fabio’s surgery possible and for giving us a discount. Y’all are seriously the best!

Fabio is getting his dental and bladder stone removed today. TRIGGER WARNING: The last picture shows you what’s going on in his mouth, but be forewarned, it’s gross. I think the upper left (his right) part of his jaw is disintegrating.

Small dogs have often bad teeth and people must be prepared to pay for yearly teeth cleanings. Having teeth like this is terrible for their health. Fabio came to me extremely congested with a terribly swollen lymph node because of the shape his teeth are in.

Please wish Fabio luck. He’s going into surgery right now.

Prayer warriors rise up to pray for Fabio’s front teeth! He’s getting a dental and his huge bladder stone removed Friday. We’ve hoping his lower front teeth will be able to stay. 🤞

Fabio’s surgery alone will cost between $3,317-3,700. This fundraiser benefits all of ’s medical fosters. If you’re able to contribute it would be greatly appreciated.

Jaqweenie & the Country Nuts had a blast at ! Both Willie Nutson and Kenny Chestnut found homes there, leaving just Merle Hazelnut looking for his forever home. (5th pic)

Check out Scoot in the last few pictures. She’s a big, 2 month old puppy who was born with chicken wings for front legs. These things happen! Scoot is such a sweet puppy and was a delight to hold. She’s not officially available for adoption yet because is sorting out her legs and working on getting her a wheelchair, but if you’re super interested you can always fill out a generic application to throw your hat in the ring.

I’d like to start a series called “Between Jean’s Knees” because all the fun stuff happens there. Unfortunately it sounds a little freaky deaky. My first iteration of this was “Between Jean’s Legs” so I think I’ve at least improved on the idea.

I was at Trader Joe’s & they always ask if you found everything all right. I mentioned that they didn’t have the pads I needed for my foster dog who p*es his pants. When they asked about him I mentioned that he’s the ugliest dog I’ve seen in my life. The lady was like, “wait, is he THE ugly dog?!” I said, I don’t know, but here’s a picture.” Fabio was indeed the dog she was thinking of. She had seen the picture I posted when I sprung him from the shelter. 😆

Our house as soon as June 1st rolls around. I was trying to get pictures of the foster puppies for our Rescues & Rainbows event Sunday benefiting and but Jaqweenie and Orson really wanted to participate. Come meet my sweet foster puppies at 1 at !

Do yourself a favor and zoom in on Merle Hazelnut’s face in the 3rd picture. The rescue requested pictures of the puppies in pride gear. I figured I would get away with a bandanna, but they kept letting me add more gear! They’re such good puppies!

I’m about to take Jaqweenie and Kenny Chestnut to for ’s children’s book “Your Pets’ Secret Lives” launch at 11! I can’t wait!!! 📖

Big Fabio news! He has recovered from kennel cough and was able to get his bladder x-rays & bloodwork. I have amazing news. Surprisingly, his bloodwork looks great. His calcium level was a tad high but they’re going to retest in case it was a fluke. All that means it’s safe to put him under for his much needed dental. AND… drumroll please…. HE DOES NOT HAVE BLADDER CANCER!!!! The thing they saw on the ultrasound that’s causing his frequent urination is a huge bladder stone.

Fabio will need surgery to remove the bladder stone. His vet decided that given his advanced age, it’s best to knock out his bladder stone removal at the same time as his dental. It doesn’t make sense to put him through two separate surgeries.

is giving us a serious discount for his surgery but it’s still pricey. They estimate it will cost $3,317-3,700. is currently doing a fundraiser for our foster dogs with medical expenses. If you’re able to contribute it would be greatly appreciated.

Orson had an appointment at the same time to discuss his anxiety. We’ve decided to give Prozac another shot. The original vet (from another practice) didn’t tell me we could increase the dose. I also wasn’t made aware that the generic Prozac doesn’t work for all dogs so we’re going to try the name brand for Orson. If Prozac doesn’t help his Borsoning then we can try Paxil.

Canoeing the New! Orson was so good except when some fishermen barked at him.

I’m gonna be honest, this good boy is brought to you by drugs. Just enough to take the edge off. 😬 It can’t be easy for him living with constant anxiety. We did try Prozac for a month and didn’t notice any benefits but now I’m wondering if we should have tried adjusting the dose.

Trying to drop the puppies off with their temp on the way out of town was a nightmare. I was stacking them like Tetris and nothing worked. Both boys ended up sitting in my lap which gave me so much anxiety because they usually ride wearing their seatbelts. (This was just a brief trip until we dropped the puppies off and then Jaqweenie and Orson were properly restrained.) In hindsight I should have dropped the puppies off separately but I already had to drive Fabio to Durham to stay with his temp so I was trying to limit my trips.

And of course Dolly Peanuts threw up twice. The only person who was remotely comfortable was Kenny Chestnut! He’s my pick of the litter and he’s still available for adoption from .

I love seeing my former fosters all grown up. Jaqweenie however is furious when they get bigger than him. Digby formerly Grunion was adopted by my friends so I get to see him often. He p*ed on my foot he was so happy to see me! This sweet fellow loves puppies so it’s awesome to have him visit to help socialize my fosters.

I haven’t forgotten ! My Orson freaks will find a few 🪄 in the carousel.

Fabio by himself at the end because he has kennel cough and can’t go near anyone. (Not that he’d want to be around this craziness!)

I still have 3 Country Nut puppies for adoption from . They are Coonhound mixes, and we expect they’ll be about 50-55lbs.

The face of a boy who most definitely p*ed in the kitchen. Sometimes I wonder if Orson really is doing his best.

If I leave anything on the floor of the kitchen there’s a good chance Orson will p*e on it. Orson needs to get it together! I’d prefer to only have one p*e p*e pants in the house at a time and right now that’s Fabio. He’s getting an X-ray of his bladder Tuesday to hopefully determine why he keeps p*eing himself. Fabio is wearing his chore coat in this picture because if the sun isn’t shining directly on him and it’s less than 75 degrees he gets cold. 🥺

I couldn’t put my finger on what breed Fabio is, but now that you mention it, he’s definitely a Chinese Crusted.

I’ve been cooking for Fabio because I believe once a dog gets to be elderly, they deserve home cooked meals. BUT the ungrateful little twerp prefers canned food. To add insult to injury this is a donated food in which one of the main ingredients is “animal liver!” Could be opossum, could be snake for all I know!

The Country Nut puppies are still looking for homes. They look like hounds to me and I’d guess they’ll be between 45-60 pounds. They really are some of the sweetest puppies! While I have your attention, PLEASE CONSIDER FOSTERING for if you live within 45 minutes of Durham. Even if you can only do temporary placements, we could use your help. You don’t have to spend any money and you get a ton of support from the rescue.

This little man has a lot going on. He was picked up by animal control in Rockingham County and no one came looking for him. Clearly he was someone’s dog because he couldn’t have survived as a stray, but he was badly neglected.

When I picked him up from the shelter Thursday he was p*eing blood so I took him to the vet that day. They did an ultrasound on his bladder and have sent the images to a radiologist to get a better idea of what we’re dealing with. The poor fellow also has frequent urges to urinate so he needs to wear a wrap inside. He’s on antibiotics, and I haven’t seen blood since then but that might be a coincidence because there was no sign of bacteria or WBCs in his urine.

On top of his bladder issues, his teeth are atrocious. He’ll need most of them removed. They’re so badly infected that his lymph nodes are extremely swollen and even his nose is runny from them. He keeps spraying me in the face with snot. Bless his heart! I’ve made him a dental appointment for the 29th. Hopefully his bloodwork comes back showing that he’s healthy enough for the procedure. His vet thinks he’s 14-15 years old so any procedure is risky.

Oh, and in case you couldn’t tell, he’s completely blind.

I was thinking I’d keep his shelter name Fabio, but it just doesn’t feel right. When I picked him up the shelter worker told me “this dog is worth a lot of money.” In my head I thought, “more like this dog is going to cost the rescue a lot of money!” So I’m thinking about calling him 💵 Paperboy 💵. (Like the rapper Paper Boi in Atlanta.) What do you think?

It’s a good day to be whatever this is. Not so great a day for Jaqweenie though. He’s getting his teeth cleaned so he was woken up early and then denied breakfast. 😣

I’ll post an update on foster dog Fabio later on, but so far he’s doing great.

POV mom and dad just sat you down to talk. You assume they’re getting a divorce but it turns out they’re getting a new foster dog.

Y’all know there’s no way I’m gonna let this little freak of nature sit in the shelter a minute longer than he has to. Wish me luck! I’m off to break him out of the shelter!

*Kirby and I are not getting divorced but if I keep dragging home dogs like this he might just leave me! 😅 I really wanted to surprise him by sneaking his dog in bed with him at night, but I decided I should probably ask him if he would be OK with fostering first. I don’t actually want him to leave me!

He will NEVER stop Borsoning! I discovered this awesome company @good.dirt that let me buy some potting soil even though they’re a wholesaler. I’ve been eyeing their office for awhile now because they have so many cool plants outside but finally worked up the nerve to go inside. The nice man Ty who works there was extremely understanding of Orson coming into his office and screaming his head off. Given that they’re not technically open to the public it was very generous of him to overlook Orson’s bad behavior. I’m super excited about their potting soil because not only is it extremely lightweight but it also has beneficial microbes!! As you can see, Orson really likes it too. I was tempted to let Jaqweenie have this one because he was being so cute but he can be a little food aggressive so I didn’t want to risk it. My adorable puppies are available for adoption from @hopeanimalrescue! If you feel like you’d be a good pet parent please consider adopting one. Unfortunately I’ve had a few applications not work out. This should be obvious but please don’t apply to adopt a pet until you are currently living in a place that allows pets! Another of my pet peeves is when people ask if I can hold the puppy for them. This isn’t your dry cleaning! I can’t hold them for a month. When people ask me to hold a puppy for them I see that as an immediate red flag. I’m happy to give applicants a week to get ready, but if you need more than that it might not be the right time for you to adopt.
