A little Vanilla update for you all. We put our foster Vanilla on Prozac to help ease her stress when we leave her alone. Unfortunately, after being on it for almost a month, she started to behave aggressively towards other dogs. This is completely out of character for her. Weāve had her for about three months and sheās never acted this way.
I contacted the vet and a trainer about it. It sounds like this is a side effect of the Prozac, although an uncommon one. Both said that it was possible that the side effect would go away as her body got used to the medication, but I decided to taper her off immediately.
We have scheduled a training session for her on Jan. 7th. Iām thinking once the Prozac is fully out of her system I would like to try a different medication.
I hesitate to even post about it because I donāt want her labeled as aggressive given that this is temporary, but I thought it was important to share in case anyone else is dealing with it.
Prozac has been a game changer for my personal dogs Orson and Fabio, but itās not for every dog.
