Throughout my 29+ years of working with clients and patients, I have carried the immense honor and weighty responsibility of navigating their needs. At the core of every decision lies a crucial question:
What is truly best?
As a dedicated advocate, my foremost priority is my patients. I strive to see life through their perspective, offering honest reflections. Frequently, I find myself explaining discomfort, anxiousness, and a loss of joy. Clearly, I hear the pet's readiness.
However, it is understandable that not all family members are ready to say goodbye. In these moments, I patiently address their inquiries, aiming to bring them peace and alleviate any doubts or guilt they feel. It's a process that takes time. Additionally, the uncertainty of how much time the pet has left further complicates the matters.
One thing remains certain: death does not adhere to convenience or the heart. It cannot always be scheduled at an ideal day and time for everyone involved. It's during these discussions that I encourage listening and an open mind. Though it may be difficult to hear, the answer often resides within. When a pet is ready, granting them a gentle passing becomes an extraordinary gift.
