Arthur Family Rabbitry

Arthur Family Rabbitry We started raising and showing rabbits in 2002. This was a 4-H and FFA project that has grown dramatically over the last 3 years. They don’t only serve as a pet.

There are so many different things you can do with rabbits. You can do anything from showing, raising them for meat quality, training them to do jumping races and so much more. You will never get bored with your furry friend! As quoted by my college daughter who bought her 1st rabbit at 5 years old: "When I started this project, I was very young and just learning from others. Now I am the leader,

teacher, and mentor. It is hard to explain 12 years of what I have received from raising rabbits. My future will be better because of the friendship's, educational aspects, connections, and people skills developed because of raising rabbits."

We recently participated in a community service event, where my Crosby County 4-H kids exhibited outstanding character in stepping up to help me.

At the FiberMax Center for Discovery's monthly H-E-B family night, we showcased rabbits, attracting approximately 300 children. Our display included tables with rabbit information handouts, an educational board, and rabbits for petting. My 4-H kids effectively addressed questions and clarified common misconceptions about rabbits.

I attended the SWRRBA show this past weekend in Wichita Falls, Tx. This was a combination show with the Mini Lop National Show. (Definitely a show opportunity you would not want to miss having the Nationals hosted in your own state). It was worth a shot to see how my Mini Lops measured up to the others within the U.S.

I met some wonderful people whom will now be great mentors for me. There were exhibitors from 33 states; which made it so much fun competing against the best! Everyone was gracious and helpful. And to my surprise, my homegrown bunnies were placed in the top 50% most of the classes. I had one doe that received a 7th place out of 49. I was so excited and proud of my little bunnies. Then after a long day of showing, I had a young Junior mini lop doe place 1st in her class!! This was definitely an achievement worth celebrating.

These wins meant just as much to me as if I would have won Best of Breed. "It's not the win that counts, it is the journey"!

I have three litters of baby Mini lops. I would say I don’t have more than two alike among all three litters. And we are talking 22 babies! A lot of chocolate variations this time.

Look at these cool colors. It’s a shame that you cannot show a tortoise color in a standard satin. It’s only approved in the mini satin breed. But they are pretty. This is a litter out of my broken Siamese satin doe and and a black buck (he is 1/2 Siamese).
