Arthur Family Rabbitry

Arthur Family Rabbitry We started raising and showing rabbits in 2002. This was a 4-H and FFA project that has grown dramatically over the last 3 years. They don’t only serve as a pet.

There are so many different things you can do with rabbits. You can do anything from showing, raising them for meat quality, training them to do jumping races and so much more. You will never get bored with your furry friend! As quoted by my college daughter who bought her 1st rabbit at 5 years old: "When I started this project, I was very young and just learning from others. Now I am the leader,

teacher, and mentor. It is hard to explain 12 years of what I have received from raising rabbits. My future will be better because of the friendship's, educational aspects, connections, and people skills developed because of raising rabbits."

How awesome for this family!! They won grand champion with the offspring of their winning rabbit from last year. There were 10 babies born in the litter. I was only able to keep two alive. They picked up the two babies to feed and raise for this stock show. Proper care and management are important but having good stock helps.

Congratulations also on your Senior Showmanship Award. I know you worked very hard taking care of your Rabbits and knowing your facts.

Hits home for me. I had a momma develop mastitis this week. We tried to help her but she passed. Then I had 6 orphans to foster. She was a great mom. So sad to lose her.

Not the post we want to share… but a harsh reality…
No matter how hard we prepare for weather changes, how attentive we are to our herd, and the amount of love we pour into our rabbit ranchin’, unpredictable circumstances arise.
There is nothing worse than knowing a doe is not going to take care of a litter. We will foster and pray for a promising outcome, but at last, it’s up to the other doe to take care of these new babies. Sometimes it works like a charm and other times it doesn’t….
This crème d’argent litter was kindled in the middle of the night. No fur pulled. And left to fend for themselves. This doe isn’t a first time mom either… so what went wrong? Too cold? Not enough water? Bad attitude?

Our point is, it has been a harsh winter already, in TEXAS. Rabbit ranchin’ and livestock in general is hard to raise. Time to mourn. Time to adapt. Time to make a new plan and move on.

Sad Day when you loose a winner. Unfortunately, pregnancy was not suited for her. Thankfully, I still have her mother.
