In DESPERATE need of a military pet boarder to board a Service Member's pet while they are deployed. Kailyn now has a week to find a pet boarder!

Thelma, an 80 lb, 9 year old senior dog needs a temporary home while her military mom is deployed for 10 mo., or until the end of Oct, when (OP) can host. She reached out as having no other options, no one wanted a senior that size.

UPDATE 2: None of the 3 donors worked out. Now Kailyn has a week to find someone to board her dog while she's gone. Please consider helping a deploying soldier!

ATTENTION! The rattlesnakes are starting to come out as the weather warms up. For those that frequent the field adjacent to the dog park, a dog got bit by a baby rattlesnake on Saturday the 24th. It wasn't known until the dog got home and was licking it's lip excessively, where it was bit. The dog was treated and recovering just fine. Use caution and vigilance in the field and even in the dog park.

The Rancho Mirage Crime Prevention Officer was kind enough to reach out to me this morning and share some info, and wanted me to pass it along. They re-iterated to please please contact them if anything goes missing from your vehicle while at the park, or anywhere in the city limits for that matter, so they can see if there's a pattern (times, days, locations). They insinuated that if they can find a pattern, they might set up an operation to catch the culprit! Additionally, in response to yesterday's events, Riverside County Sheriff's department posted a deputy at the park today for over an hour this morning! IF WE LET THEM KNOW, THINGS CAN CHANGE!

Attention all dog moms and dads! LOCK YOUR DOORS IN THE DOG PARK! This morning I was the victim, and luckily, the thief was caught in the act and took off like the coward he is and nothing was missing. Aged 30s, male, Hispanic, somewhat built (athletic), white hoodie. I am aware of 3 purses and several wallets and credit cards being stolen out of cars in the 7 years 3 months the park has been open. Be vigilant. Keep an eye on your cars and the parking lot. If you find yourself a victim of theft, PLEASE MAKE A REPORT TO THE POLICE. THEY WANT YOU TO. Take this number down... (760) 836-3215. I spent the better part of 3 hours this morning relocating dirt in the dig pit from the high side to the low side. It is now higher on the "low side" because that dirt is fresh and not compacted yet. It will even out, I promise.

Coming to a dog park near us! Received today from a morning attendee on the big side! I'll be dumping about 30 per week on Friday afternoons after maintenance gets done. She got them as a donation from the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens.

It's taken me 15 hours just to write this, because this is news I don't want to share. On the large side, morning crew, we lost an owner yesterday morning, January 8th. Kari passed away due to cancer. Kari's dog is Arnie, a great little light brown tank of a dog who loves playing rough with any and every dog. Arnie has the best temperament, and even when being ganged up on by 5 dogs, he never loses his temper. His temperament obviously stems from what a kind and beautiful soul Kari was. I always enjoyed talking with Kari and she was super friendly to many in the park. Her presence and friendliness will be missed. Rest in peace, friend.

AS A REMINDER: Dog parks are NOT free doggie daycare. You SHOULD NOT drop a dog off at a dog park and then leave the park, intending to pick it up later. Yes, this happened recently (12/27/23). I doubt any fan of this page needs to hear this, but maybe posting about it will prevent it from happening in the future.

UPDATE - The dog park is now open! It opened sometime today.

I spoke to a landscaper yesterday, and they said they were opening the park on Monday morning 'bright and early'. Historically, it's still possible they open it tomorrow (Friday) at some point.

Finally I was able to get Google to label the Palm Springs Large Dog Park. It does not have an address, but now there's a label on Google maps. During the closure, this is a nice alternate park with nice people. It's a great big park, but no grass, all dirt. I encourage you to try it.

Reference the upcoming closure for re-seeding:
Palm Springs dog park by the airport will be closed November 6th through December 13th. Large dog park in Demuth will remain open (city official email).
All Palm Desert dog parks are closing the complete month of October (city official email).
All LaQuinta dog parks are closing October 4th and anticipated to open November 5th (LaQuinta's website).
Cathedral City Panorama Dog Park is closing September 28th and opens October 28th (Cathedral City Communications Manager Ryan Hunt).

The city has posted signs at the entrance to the Rancho Mirage Dog Park parking lot and both small and large sides. The park will be closed for re-seeding from October 2nd until "mid November". More info and dates in the comments.

BE AWARE: Wednesday evening, a dog named Connor was bit by a rattlesnake as he exited the dog park's large side. No more about the encounter is known, including the dog's condition. Keep your eyes open and stay alert. As the weather cools, rattlesnakes will be coming out earlier and closer to sunset. It is believed that snake breeding season and the disturbance of their natural habitat where Key Largo is being extended are contributing factors.

***UPDATE*** Connor's owner reached out to me and let me know that after an expensive trip to doggy ICU out of the valley, Connor is recovering nicely and looks to be back to normal.

***UPDATE 2*** Izzy has been successfully re-homed! We are over the moon!

***UPDATE 1*** We may have found a home for Izzy. Test runs are being done to see if it's a good match today!

We have a puppy owner that has cancer and isn't long for this world. She's looking for a loving person to rescue her dog. Please consider giving this pup a second life. Her name is Izzy. She's 80% Australian Kelpi. She's about 4 years old, 35 pounds. Trained by Lori Carman at Dream Dogs. That's all the info I have. Please consider adoption.

UPDATE 3: Until a week ago, Theta was doing great. Then there was a turning point. Today the vet said the cancer is back and her stomach is filled with blood and that she needed to be put down immediately. I'm so sorry to report, that she was put down this afternoon. Very upsetting. We will miss you Theta! Cross that rainbow bridge, girl!

UPDATE 2: Theta is out of surgery, one kidney and one 15lb tumor lighter, but recovering nicely.

UPDATE 1: UPDATE: GOAL REACHED!!!

For those of you that know Theta, the large female husky that attends mornings with her owner Jake the Locksmith, Theta has been diagnosed with a tumor the size of a watermelon in her stomach. Jake is taking her in for a $2500 surgery next Wednesday. Jake is retired, disabled, and on a very fixed income. I'm hoping to ask, of those that are able, if you can donate anything you can to help Theta and Jake. I'll be at the park each morning on the large side accepting donations. For the holiday this week, the city has informed me they will be closing the park for weekly maintenance on Wednesday instead of Friday. It will be closed from 11am-2pm on Wednesday November 23rd.

Attention all dog-park-goers:
The city will be closing the park for the annual reseeding on October 3rd through "mid-November". As I understand it from different sources, University is already closed, while Cathedral City, Palm Desert, and Laquinta will also be closing their parks October 3rd. Palm Springs is reportedly keeping their park open during our park's closure. I hope this helps.
