Here’s a few photos of one of my holdbacks from last season. Yes, this girl is a spider, and I do plan to breed her, but she may be the only spider I breed into the future. She’s an absolute powerhouse being visual hypo with od, enchi, fire and asphalt. She will make some killer super asphalt combos in the future! Even the spider super asphalt stuff looks really nice!

Here’s something a bit different, 2.1 cypress mojave hypos. I knew cypress and mojave both work really well with the hypo gene so I figured I would put them together! After a few meals all three of these animals will ✈️!

Here’s a sneak peek of one of my favourite hatchling from my first clutch, fresh shed. Crazily, I’m pretty confident all 6 animals are female. I believe she’s an orange dream enchi leopard spotnose hypo, she’s also possible asphalt and possible het clown. She’s an awesome animal even if she doesn’t prove but if she does prove out she’s my key to producing super asphalt hypo clown combos in the future! I had really solid odds on this clutch! 😁

Here’s my first hatchling of the season and something a little different for me. I believe this is either a pastel enchi od spotnose pdh hypo clown or a super od pastel spotnose pdh. What do you think?

Caught this girl in the act! This is a repeat pairing from last year. Pastel enchi od asphalt het hypo * od enchi firefly het hypo. She laid 8 eggs and one slug last year, hopefully she’ll lay at least as many again this year!

I believe this is the first time I’ve produced two clutches on the same day. I failed a bit forgetting to take a photo of the mom on the second clutch. The pairings are pastel enchi od asphalt het hypo * hypo pos asphalt and cypress hypo * Mojave redstripe het hypo. Both clutches where I won’t have any pos hets! Both had 8 eggs good eggs but the first had one egg kicked out from the rest (seemed okay when candled) and the other had one slug. Up to 23 good eggs in the incubator!

Pulled my first clutch of the season a couple of days ago. I recently had this girl’s shed tested and found that the pairing is pastel enchi od asphalt het hypo * od leopard spotnose dh hypo clown. This female was purchased as 50% pos het clown but I had written it off. I was very excited when I found out that she was het clown. Despite clown being my favourite morph and likely the most popular, I have no visuals in my collection and only a few hets. I’m really hoping for some good odds in this clutch so I can jumpstart my hypo super asphalt clown project. 🤞🤞🤞

Sending this boy out today. He’s looking really nice! He’s an Asphalt OD Pastel Hypo. I was definitely considering keeping him as he was the only visual hypo asphalt male I produced last season. Fingers crossed I hit some more this season!

Please ignore the messy cage, it sometimes helps with breeding lol

Here’s a rather unexpected thing. This “female” cypress hypo has been a terrible eater ever since I moved. I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure out what was wrong with her. I did have some humidity problems in the collection but I’ve since fixed that and she still hasn’t been eating… Well here she is locked with my big Mojave redstripe het hypo girl. When I got her I wasn’t confident with sexing snakes but thought she might have had hemipenes. I took a photo and was told by a couple breeders that I was popping too hard and they were scent glands. I dismissed my concerns and carried on. Lo and behold he is definitely a male. This honestly works out for me aside from the fact that I might have a couple more clutches than I was expecting this year.

I haven’t posted much lately but here are some photos of a couple animals that were added to the collection over the winter. The first is a female enchi triple het cryptic/clown dg hypo from Trigg Reptiles. The second is a female super enchi asphalt blackhead pastel het hypo from Tallgrass Reptiles. Really excited to get these two into the breeding rotation in a few years.

My last pairing of the season. Taking it easy this season with only four clutches. This is another repeat pairing from last year. Pastel enchi od asphalt het hypo * super od enchi fire spider het hypo. Another clutch where I’m trying for my visual hypo asphalt male. Hoping to hit without the pastel or spider.

Thanks to the recent storm I have my second lock of the season. Pastel enchi od asphalt het hypo * leopard spotnose het hypo pos het clown. I’ll be sending her shed in to test the het clown before I’ll have any babies from this clutch. Hoping for a leopard spotnose asphalt combo (and het/visual hypo of course).

Brian was my biggest inspiration when I was first getting into reptiles ~20 some years ago. His old snakebytes videos are largely responsible for me staying interested in the hobby during my formative years. I am still building my collection and have yet to really make a name for myself but I am keeping the dream alive the best that I can. Reptiles are one of the most important parts of my life and one of the things that make me who I am, without him that wouldn’t be the case. I saw him a few times at the CRBE (Toronto) and spoke with him but was too young and shy to really put myself out there and meet him. I wholeheartedly regret that and knowing that I will likely never get the chance to now is really really hard. I haven’t watched his channel much in my adult life but seeing what has happened to him really breaks my heart. He inspired an entire generation of reptile keepers with his videos and his personality and is definitely a pillar in the reptile community. I genuinely don’t think it would be where it is now without him.

First pairing for this season. Pastel enchi od asphalt het hypo * hypo pos asphalt. I originally thought for sure this girl was asphalt but I’m pretty sure she isn’t now. Mostly doing this pairing for a higher chance at an od enchi asphalt hypo male but if she proves asphalt that’ll be awesome!

Admittedly I’m not the biggest fan of but this male turned out awesome! I believe he’s an od enchi mojave cinnamon banana het hypo, very pretty combo that should stay relatively free of spots (if it is Mojave). Luckily, he’s also a female maker so most of the bananas he produces should be female. Definitely looking forward to seeing the visual hypo version of this combo in the future!

-This post is also showing off the difference between the iPhone 12 mini camera I had been using and the iPhone 15 camera. Similar lighting, I definitely think I prefer the 15.

Today I consider my season a success. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the best hatch rate as my incubator had some unfortunate temperature fluctuations. The loss of babies throughout this season made it my toughest season by far. Despite this, I still hatched 37 healthy babies, making this my biggest season by quite a bit.

Ball Pythons can be terrible feeders, but luckily, only one of those snakes needed to be assist fed. As of today, all of those 37 snakes have eaten on their own and that feels like a huge accomplishment to me. Definitely feeling proud today.

Last clutch of the season and I’ve hatched my first bananas. (Pastel OD Mojave Hypo pos enchi/redstripe * banana cinnamon). This clutch will be tough to ID as I’ve never produced cinnamons or bananas before and I’ve only hatched one mojave (the sire). I don’t think I see redstripe but maybe enchi.

Here’s a late clutch update for the season. Pictured are both Asphalt het hypo clutches, the super od enchi fire spider het hypo clutch and the pastel enchi od fire het hypo clutch. I unfortunately missed taking photos of the clutches from the (now proven) pastel enchi od fire spider het hypo (pos super od) and banana cinnamon girl. Most of these clutches have now hatched and I will be posting photos of some of the hatchlings soon!
