Parsippany High School Teacher Charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child

Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department Chief Richard Pantina announce that James Wiegand, 43, of Sparta, has been charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child in connection with alleged inappropriate online conversations with a 14-year-old student.

In November 2024, an administrator at Parsippany High School notified the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office of alleged inappropriate behavior by one of the school’s teachers. Wiegand, who was employed as a teacher at the time, is alleged to have sent sexual and suggestive messages to a student using Instagram during September 2024 through November 2024.

Weigand has been subsequently suspended from his teaching position.

As a result of the investigation, Mr. Wiegand was charged on March 13, 2025, with one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a crime of the third degree, in violation of N.J.S. 2C:24-4(a)(1).

Wiegand has been released under pre-trial supervision with the following conditions: pre-trial monitoring level 2, no contact with the victim, and no unsupervised contact with minor children. He has a court date scheduled for April 21, 2025, before the Honorable Robert Hanna, J.S.C.

Members of the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office S*x Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit participated in this investigation.

If anyone has any information related to this investigation, they are encouraged to call the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office at 973-285-6200, or the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department at 973-263-4300.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, this defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

LAW ENFORCEMENT NIGHT
MARCH 7, 2025 at 7 pm
Doors open 6:30 pm
MENNEN SPORTS ARENA
161 E. Hanover Avenue, Morristown, NJ

The NJ Coalition for Education and Positive Choices has become well known in Morris County for the many initiatives they have introduced and the facts and information they have supplied to the public in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse. The Coalition supports introducing kids to new activities and promoting substance-free events because these are means to uphold a child’s self-esteem. The Coalition is a pro-active team comprised of elected officials, law enforcement, educational leaders and concerned citizens who are up to date on the latest crazes and abuses that are plaguing our children.

Please join officers and police departments from all over the state at the Coalition’s Annual Law Enforcement Night. It is at this event that youngsters get to see firsthand how law enforcement officers are positive influences in our community. Law Enforcement Night has been known to introduce and further develop these relationships often providing career opportunities for teens who might not have ever considered such a path. Too often we only interact with law enforcers and first responders on our worst day. This is a great opportunity to interact with our law enforcement officers and first responders on a very good day.

The equipment on display at this event is known to even awe adults. Never will one see such an array of machinery like this at one location. Kids are able to see the Morris County Hope Van, peruse ambulances, emergency vehicles of every shape and size, wear riot gear, try on handcuffs and comingle with the law enforcement community in a fun atmosphere.

The important aspect to remember here is that law enforcement is trained to make these kids feel safe and important. Confidence and self-esteem go a long way in helping a child say no to his peers when the time arises.
