Those numbers are absolutely real! We are experiencing the exact same thing. Most of the females in the last few weeks that have gone to clinic WERE ALREADY PREGNANT. 😢

UPDATE: I just received totals for the last 4 days (today is last day for surgeries). Total of 46 female cats. 15 or 1/3 of those cats were pregnant with 65 feti. So poof...in less than 60 days that cat population would have gone from 15 to 80. Do you hear me now?

😿 WE'RE SCREWED🚨

I know that's neither polite or professional language but those are the words that came out of my mouth yesterday. Actually I "may" have used some stronger words.

Yesterday at a spay/neuter clinic here in E TN, 6 female community cats were scheduled for spay. Of those, four were pregnant. Those four were carrying a total of 20 feti. Think about those numbers. If those feti hadn't been humanely euthanized, that four cat population would have increased by 5 times.

Please friends. Speuter your pets. Help a neighbor get their pet speutered. Help a community cat get speutered. "But aw....kittens are so cute." Look at the numbers. We are about to be drowning in cute kittens. If you are too late to fix 'em l, we'll need ya to foster 'em. If you don't, more will die in the streets. It will take everyone helping to climb out of this animal welfare crisis in our community.

FIV is not a big deal anymore. It's not a death penalty. They can live long & healthy lives with other cats. We also, keep FIV kitties housed with non-FIV. 😻😻

You know what really sends me into a rage? When vets teach pet parents the wrong things. Not only are they often brand new pet parents but they are trusting you as their vet to guide them on the right path. I’ll say it once and I’ll say it everyday for the rest of my life:

FIV IS NOT AIDS AND IT IS NOT EASILY TRANSMITTED.

Stop trying to scare these poor cat owners into spending loads of unnecessary money on testing and supplements and immunity boosters, and stop telling them FIV is a death sentence. FIV is spread by DEEP BITES and the mixing of blood……NOT food dishes, NOT saliva, NOT litter boxes, and NOT through the air. This old school garbage way of thinking has got to stop.

We currently have, and will always have FIV+ cats at the cafe, safely and happily coexisting with FIV- cats. This one particular vet that triggered this post, actually told our adopters to return their FIV+ cat to us, as she would soon infect their other cats. Luckily they were able to be talked off this ludicrous ledge and educated about FIV, but this will not always be the case.

If you or someone you love is using a vet who spreads this nonsense, I’d like to speak to them, and so would perfect FIV+ boy, Claudio.

We've been busy! What am I saying, this is our life 365. There's no kitten season anymore. It's all the time. This only gets under control by the village of people willing to step up to the plate & do something about it.
Please consider donating a few dollars our way so we can continue to help our community battle this over population crisis that is very terrible in our Jefferson County community 😢😻🐾♥️

Please share‼️Fosters needed! Do you love animals and want to make a difference but not sure where to start? Mountain Cats TNR needs fosters. ❤️❤️We have some amazing fosters caring for our kittens and young cats but there’s a great need for our older cats in our Cat Shed who’ve spent much of their lives before coming to us, just trying to survive outdoors and while they have potential to be lovey, indoor family members, they need a caring person to spend some one on one time with them to get them ready for adoption. We need people to teach them to trust and experience kindness. While the Cat Shed volunteers do their best, some of our guys struggle in that environment and need to be in a less chaotic place with a kind foster. Fostering with us means we supply the food, any necessary meds/vet-care, and guidance! Note - fosters do need to be willing to bring their foster kitty to adoption events. It’s a win win for both the cats and those who give them this chance - you can truly change the trajectory of an animal’s life for the better! These kitties are looking for a foster. Just complete a general volunteer app and foster specific app on our website https://www.mountaincatstnr.com/forms/form?formid=6693 and https://www.mountaincatstnr.com/forms/form?formid=6699 and we’ll be in touch!

Folks we are so stinking excited to announce long time residents Sam & Willow have been adopted....TOGETHER! They went in to a foster to adopt last weekend & today their parents said they couldn't imagine their life without them so they came to sign the paperwork! Willow was 5 weeks old when she came to us & Sam was about 4months old. Willow is almost 2 yrs old & Sam is about 1 1/2 yrs old. These kids waited so long 😻🐾♥️

So here's a story we've been wanting to share for awhile now.
But Warning- this story could trigger some people, proceed with caution.

One of our volunteers had an elderly family member that had some outside kitties. The 1 particular kitty for years would always be seen pregnant but no kittens were ever seen. Not a single one in years. Our volunteer set traps often but this kitty would never go in. Finally she was gifted a drop trap and GOT HER! We sent her in for her spay & thats when we got the horrible news....SHE HAD NO NI***ES! And broken/missing canines. We've never seen such a thing nor had the vet. That would explain why kittens had never been spotted. Every single litter she had....she couldn't nurse. That means those kittens laid with her crying & rooting until finally their tiny bodies became silent. And the grief this poor momma went through EVERY SINGLE LITTER.
We made sure to end the cycle for this Momma. She was given the name Stella. And she scored an inside home! She isn't feral but very untrusting. She is making progress every day & we are so very happy for her.
Please don't wait to help your outside community cats. You are their only voice. Their only hope. Please contact your local TNR group now before the litters start coming 😻🐾♥️

A fairly long term boy was adopted this week!!!
It is with a very happy heart we announce that Adzo has found his forever home.
This sweet boy was so shy when he came in and finally came out of his shell.
It still takes time for these guys to adjust. Please give these cats a chance to feel love and a real home ❤️.
Adzo is a success story thanks to his new family.
