It’s been awhile since I have sat down to work on mohair. Summer is always a busy time with horses, jackpots, trail rides, and play days! Gifted this breast collar to my brother Dec 2020. The thing has been used and abused. No oil, never cleaned, and improperly stored for months in the AZ sun and weather. The mohair is black and still looks great!! One of the tugs finally broke so it needed some TLC….made a new set of tugs, gave it a good oil, and quick wash. I am sure the center strap will give at some point and the mohair feels a little rough but overall, it’s surviving the ultimate tests!! 😅 while you don’t need to wash your mohair often, be sure to keep it indoors, away from rodents/cats/dogs, and oil your leathers.

While this post is sad, it’s also exciting….the time has come to make Sandy Creek Mohair a side hustle. My son is growing up so it’s time to start focusing more on him and helping him with his horses and rodeo experiences!! Horses and rodeo are expensive so I have accepted a remote position working full time for an amazing company. Going forward, custom orders will be extremely limited and selective, only allowing 1-2 custom orders at a time unless the requesting customer is flexible on completion timeline. I will post when taking on customs if there isn’t a waitlist. I will continue to maintain the website and post immediate purchase items for sale to fb and the website. The ambassador program will end on May 15th. I will post when custom orders are open during Christmas, once 10 items are ordered, customs will close during that time of year. It’s Spring time, wash your cinches or allow them to bake in the sun to kill any bacteria/fungus that might be lingering.

Spring is here and now is a great time to wash your cinches! Hair on the back side is completely ok! Remove leather keeper. Soak in cool or room temp water for 10 mins. Plain water or with woolite. Massage heavily haired, sweaty, or dirty areas between fingers then swirl around in the water for 30 sec or so. Rinse thoroughly in cool or cold water. Squeeze and release from top to bottom to remove excess water. Lay flat between a towel and stand on it to remove as much water as possible. Lay in indirect sunlight until dry. Or you can lay in direct sunlight for 4-5 hrs bottom side up and then place in indirect sunlight. I prefer direct sunlight to kill anything that may linger. Mohair is much like clothes….be sure your pieces are laid out flat and smooth after washed so they dry nicely. #mohair #washyourmohair #cleantack #springcleaning #mohaircinch #washyourcinch
