Random thoughts in the chinchilla room. It's crazy how much passion, thought, and excitement goes into being a breeder, especially an ethical/reputable one, and how deep rooted this hobby is. The amount of knowledge and time that goes into pairing is extensive. All of the aspects of qualities considered when pairing for improvement plus additional factors like is the male proven, if not, which proven females do I have available to consider, etc. We don't just pair based off of cuteness or color/markings or who our favorites are, which is what really sets apart quality breeders vs unethical ones. The hard decisions made for the small part we can hopefully contribute to the overall betterment. The heartbreak when things dont go as planned; not only for the love and life, but for the finances we've buried into it all. And on most days, it's worth it. Because it's not just a fun, low-key hobby we do and then sell kits to make our money back and potentially profit. It's deeper. It's passing up sales because we're seeing quality potential in how an animal is growing and how each sale we do make goes back into care and improvement. I find myself in the chinchilla room regularly, not knowing why, just standing there, looking at everyone. Nothing needs done, everyone is fed and watered and happy. We're just drawn there for the peace and happiness it brings us.
