This past week, I went to my quarterly oncology appointment at Wheeling Hospital and met a wonderful lady who checked me in to see the doctor. In just a few minutes of conversation, I was to discover that she and her husband had been suffering badly from the loss of their beloved dog. My heart instantly ached for them, as we went back and forth talking about our magnificent dogs and how we suffered. After I left the hospital, I couldn't get her pain out of my head, so I went home to gather a couple of things and went back to give them to her and for her husband. I hope I was able to help them feel better, even for 5 minutes, and if they are able to read this, I have been thinking of them since then and my heart truly aches for the two of them, if there is absolutely anything I can do to help with the pain, I hope they message me! Sometimes it's just nice to know that people care and understand when we lose our beloved pets, and I want Shelly and her husband to know, I certainly do care❤️

Our founder Ken Suter had the honor to present our first ever Hero Award to Jefferson County Humane Society and Jefferson County Animal Shelter for being the hero’s who brought Sam into his life.

We at Samaritan For Pets want to thank Paul Sweeney’s Local Charity Celebration for inviting us out to their wonderful event this past weekend. We had the opportunity to meet a lot of great people and organizations as well as share our story to all of the attendees. This event was one of a kind and we can not wait to attend next years!

Samaritan For Pets is looking for a couple of people interested in becoming our official fosters for dogs in the Ohio Valley. We want to save death row dogs, elderly, or just dogs that are having a difficult time getting adopted at a shelter. Each dog will become our client, will be treated like the royalty they are, including their owners, and will be a part of our program for life after they are adopted!
And for all you cat lovers, we promise not to leave them out, as we are hoping to have a relationship with a wonderful cat rescue, and include cats in our royalty program, as they were my beloved Sam's favorite friend!

Samaritan for Pets paid a visit to Harrison County dog pound where Cindy, a shelter hero, decided to give her day of royalty treatment to the dogs. We donated supplies to her shelter and thanked her for all of her hard work.

PET GRIEF, BY MY OWN ADMISSION


The loss of a beloved pet is often overlooked by the human world; people who have never been touched by the incredible graces of a magnificent creature; a being who's primary duty in life is to love with the utmost genuinity; to absorb the love it receives, and give it back to it's owner, ten-fold.

The emptiness that proceeds a loss can be immense; the darkness that one lives in seems endless, an abyss so large it consumes the soul, every second of every day. Sometimes that very darkness creates an emotional cyclone; a storm of grief that never seems to end; the anger, the shock, the sadness, slamming into us like a rolling freight train. And walking on that road, the road of pet grief, can be as treacherous as climbing a snow covered mountain; taking two steps forward, sliding ten steps back. And the visions, the visions of our dearly departed everywhere, always on our minds, always in our hearts.

Immense grief is likely to appear at any time, at any place, it can be a short burst, or an immense onslaught of emotions. It sucks the wind from the body, as oxygen seems as scarce as on top of the tallest mountain. It is that love that we had for our magnificent gifts that fuels the grief, the more love we have, the more grief we live with. Some suffer so horribly, the will to live is compromised, and to those that fall into that ocean, my advice to you is to find that angel, that person who's primary duty is to pull you up, to help you sail those rough, dark seas of grief, and help you find those calm, peaceful waters that are part of a sun-filled life. And the best medicine for a broken heart is to honor your beloved pet by putting smiles on the faces of others, those same smiles your magnificent pet put on yours, and their legacy lives on!

We also want to send a huge thank you on behalf of Petey the Pitbull for the homemade treats that the students had made as well as the wonderful card. Yesterday we paid a visit to KEY Animal Hospital - Karl E. Yurko DVM to present a check to Dr.Yurko for all of the wonderful things he does in the pet world. We wanted to donate to help him and the hospital with any expenses that may need covered with rescues, surgeries, or any pet related need. Thank you for such a warm welcome Dr.Yurko and thank you for all of you and your teams hard work and dedication.
