Good Afternoon!

This may be a long read but if you’re interested in our Euro process, I promise it will be worth it! Picture is one of our finished deer Euros vs. a Bear that was done using other methods.

We’ve had a lot of Euro questions lately, so we just wanted to share our process in hopes you’ll all understand why it takes as long as it does.

The main process we use is called enzyme Maceration, which is a stage of decomposing where the tissue of the skull is consumed by bacteria. This part of the process takes about 1-2 weeks and throughout this time the temperature of the maceration water tanks must be maintained at a constant optimal temperature to ensure the bacteria stays active. This part can be very stinky! We only have so many tanks, so we can do about 10 skulls at a time in the tanks. The water in the tanks must be changed every few days. We are hoping to replace the maceration step with beetles soon.

The next steps consist of a the skulls sitting in a tank filled with water and a stain remover. Staining on the skull can is very common during the maceration process due to the fat and blood. This next one is the lengthy one, the degreasing. The average deer takes about 6-8 weeks to fully degrease, bears are a bit longer, they are greasy buggers! We are not setup to degrease large amounts (20+) skulls at once, this is what takes the most time. We work on skulls in the order we received them. So though we may have received two different skulls a week apart, if the one we receive later doesn’t fit in the group we’re degreasing then it will have to wait. We use a series of chemicals and water heaters to pull the grease out of the bone. Each skull is different and varies on the amount of time it is in the degreasing tanks. During this step we also must change the tank water and maintain the perfect amount of chemicals about every week. We have 5 tanks for this step and we have to maintain a water temp of 120 degrees.

The next step is the whitening, the skull must dry completely before we apply the whitening products. Once dry, skulls will occasionally show small patches where there is still grease so back into the degreasing tanks it goes. If it is completely free of grease and stains it gets whitening products and then placed under blue lights for 3-4 days then rinsed and dried again. We whiten each skull 1-2 times as needed.

Once the skull is completely white, we glue back on any teeth or small bones that may have came loose during the process. We do this because the maceration process removes every bit of tissue, this includes cartilage which holds the nose bones and teeth to the skull. It takes about 24 hours for the glue to completely dry and don’t worry, we stay organized so no teeth or bones get misplaced.

We had over 100 euros just in 2022, and almost all are in their final steps. Thank you once again for being patient with us, we appreciate our customers so very much!

We would just like to take a moment to thank all of our customers, friends, and family that have, and continue to support our business. We are still very new to owning and operating a business and are still learning everything that comes with it. We have our kinks and wrinkles that we are working through, we’re definitely far from perfect but are doing the best we can. Balancing full time jobs, taxidermy, and life has kept us very busy! We strive to make each mount look the best it possibly can, we want to focus on high quality not high quantity. Our timelines have not been perfect, it has been very difficult to give a perfect timeline due to supply issues within the industry and backups at the tanneries from the last two years. Most places are back on track this year and we are hopeful our mounts will be done within the timeline. We are working on updating everyone on the status of your trophies, but would once again like to thank everyone for the continued support and patience!

Always a fun time at the Pacific Northwest Sportsmen’s Show! It’s a must to stop by the guys at Preying Man apparel and get some new gear. If you haven’t heard about them, we would recommend checking them out, they have some awesome stuff! We also got these two blacktails scored and both were the top scorers in their class. The two point was Luis’s 2022 rifle buck and the three point was harvested by a friend during 2022 muzzleloader season!

This hunter brought us multiple projects this past year, everything from Pintail to Whitetails! He chose a dead mount on this pintail and it turned out super cool with a custom barn wood plaque. We truly are so appreciative of him and all of our customers!
