As we start our show season, we will be missing these 3 girls! Alexa Newcomb recently graduated with an Associates of Applied Science in Human Services from CMCC and will continue on to UMA this Fall for her B.S. in Mental Health and Human Services. Madisyn Stewart graduated from Messalonskee HS 2023 and will be attending Franklin Pierce University, Rindge NH. She will be studying Health Science as part of the direct admit (DPT) doctor of physical therapy program. Amelie Grube graduated from Winthrop HS 2023 and will be attending Vassar College, NY. She will major in Biology on a pre-med track. We are so proud of these young women. It has been a joy to watch them grow up here at Meadow View and we are excited to see them off onto their new adventures.
Good luck ladies! 🥳🧐🤩😭😉🥰

We at Meadow View Equestrian Center are proud to announce our 20th Anniversary! We are incredibly grateful for our barn family, clients, and horses for supporting us and making our journey so special over the last 20 years. Let’s take a look at our history, and check our page for ways to celebrate with us!

Meadow View Equestrian Center is proudly owned by the DeRosby family - Tamara and her husband, Craig, their children, Jaedon and Gage, and Jaedon’s husband Richie. Craig and Tamara owned and operated a small horse farm in Southern New Hampshire for 12 years. In 2003 the DeRosby family moved back home to their native Maine and established Meadow View Equestrian Center, a full service boarding and lesson facility.

After opening in 2003, Tamara directed and taught several riding programs in addition to our own. These programs included a private boarding school, a private boys and girls camp, The Girl Scouts of Maine, Colby College, and University of New England. Tamara directed our own Meadow View Horse Camp for kids for many years, passing on her vast knowledge of horse care and creating lasting memories for all involved.

Meanwhile…Jaedon grew up on the farm surrounded by professionals in the horse industry. Jaedon dedicated her time to riding, helping others at the barn, taking care of the horses, and competing at local Hunter/Jumper and equitation shows, including Downeast Medal Finals. Growing up, she was lucky to have the opportunity to ride with dressage and hunter/jumper trainers, and learn from all of the Meadow View lesson horses, as well as some boarder’s horses and trainers’ project horses. Jaedon’s first horse was a young, green Quarter Horse named Twilight Star, aka Twiggy. Twiggy ignited her passion for training horses, and so the journey began. In 2015 Jaedon decided to dive all the way into the family business - taking on students and training clients. She took her highschool classes online, and worked hard to be able to graduate early so she could continue her education in the horse industry. Over time, Jaedon has taken over much of the business with the help of her mom, Tamara.

Since then, Meadow View Equestrian Center’s program has evolved around Jaedon’s passion for training horses and riders.

Currently, Jaedon is the head trainer, instructor and barn manager at Meadow View Equestrian Center. Jaedon teaches riders of all ages in our lesson program, as well as coaching our show team and the Bates College Equestrian IHSA Team. We are teaching our riders impeccable horsemanship skills, horse care, compassion for animals, effective riding and training techniques, good sportsmanship, and the many life lessons that are learned at the barn. We take great pride in knowing that we are teaching these skills to many young riders - the next generation of professionals in the horse industry. Jaedon trains horses with an open mind and empathetic approach, establishing a solid horse-human relationship first, before continuing on to ground work and under saddle training. Jaedon believes, “You never stop learning when it comes to horses.” She continues her education in different training styles, including dressage, jumping, natural horsemanship, and positive reinforcement in order to better serve the horses that she works with, and has learned through experience that there is no singular technique that works for every individual horse. As clients have noticed, Jaedon has a certain gravitational pull on horses, and cares deeply for each horse she meets.

Tamara and Jaedon, with the help of Craig, Richie, Gage, and our amazing barn staff, continue to run an outstanding full service boarding and lesson facility. It takes a village - we have faced struggles from time to time, and we could not do it without each other, our staff, and our amazing barn family and clients over the years. Thank you to everyone who has supported us!

***Important read!!! Sharing from a friend

Things your riding instructor wants you to know:
1. This sport is hard. You don't get to bypass the hard…..every good rider has gone through it. You make progress, then you don't, and then you make progress again. Your riding instructor can coach you through it, but they cannot make it easy.

2. You're going to ride horses you don't want to ride. If you're teachable, you will learn from every horse you ride. Each horse in the barn can teach you if you let them. IF YOU LET THEM. Which leads me to…
3. You MUST be teachable to succeed in this sport. You must be teachable to succeed at anything, but that is another conversation. Being teachable often means going back to basics time and time and time again. If you find basics boring, then your not looking at them as an opportunity to learn. Which brings me to…..
4. This sport is a COMMITMENT. Read that, then read it again. Every sport is a commitment, but in this sport your teammate weighs 1200 lbs and speaks a different language. Good riders don't get good by riding every once in awhile….they improve because they make riding a priority and give themsevles opportunity to practice.

5. EVERY RIDE IS AN OPPORTUNITY. Even the walk ones. Even the hard ones. Every. Single. Ride. Remember when you just wished someone would lead you around on a horse? Find the happiness in just being able to RIDE. If you make every ride about what your AREN'T doing, you take the fun out of the experience for yourself, your horse, and your instructor. Just enjoy the process. Which brings me to...

6. Riding should be fun. It is work. and work isn't always fun.....but if you (or your rider) are consistently choosing other activities or find yourself not looking forward to lessons, it's time to take a break. The horses already know you don't want to be here, and you set yourself up for failure if you are already dreading the lesson before you get here.

7. You'll learn more about horses from the ground than you ever will while riding. That's why ground lessons are important, too. If you're skipping ground lessons (or the part of your lesson that takes place on the ground), you're missing out on the most important parts of the lesson. You spend far more time on the ground with horses than you do in the saddle.

8. Ask questions and communicate. If you're wondering why your coach is having you ride a particular horse or do an exercise, ask them. Then listen to their answer and refer to #3 above.

9. We are human beings. We make decisions (some of them life and death ones) every day. We balance learning for students with workloads for horses and carry the bulk of this business on our shoulders. A little courtesy goes a long way.

Of all the sports your child will try through their school years, riding is one of 3 that they may continue regularly as adults (golf and skiing are the others). People who coach riding spend the better part of their free time and much of their disposable income trying to improve their own riding and caring for the horses who help teach your child. They love this sport and teaching others…..but they all have their limits. Not all good riders are good coaches, but all good coaches will tell you that the process to get good is not an easy one.

We would like to honor this man - he was always willing to help us when we needed him. He helped with fences, roofing, mowing, many miscellaneous building projects here in Maine and at our farm in NH. He loved Meadow View and loved all our horses, goats and dogs. He was especially attached to Picaro and rode him all over the property whenever possible. Michael shared that Meadow View was his sanctuary. Thank you Mike for helping to make this place our sanctuary as well. May you rest in peace dear brother.

Not everyone is cut out to horse show.
It's long days and short nights
It's hurry up and then wait
It's hours and hours of the same thing over and over
It's extremely hot and humid weather one day and then, freezing cold the next
It's tired feet
It's eating whatever you can hold onto easily while you are doing 4 other things
It's purple fingernails and wrinkled hands
It's being covered in dust, fly spray, hoof polish and face glow.
It's not glamorous at all!
It is however.............................
Learning to persevere when you don't think you can
Learning humility
Learning sportsmanship
Learning responsibility
Learning to run wide open on no sleep
Learning to put off your needs first
Learning patience
Learning respect
Learning what dedication is
But most of all
IT'S NEVER A DULL MOMENT!
Here's to everyone that horse shows!
