Today is National Black Cat Appreciation Day!!!! 🐈‍⬛ If you have ever had a black cat, you know how wonderful their personalities are! Cats’ brains are much more similar to a human’s brain than a dog’s! About 90%! The portion of their brains that moderate emotion are almost identical to ours. And they have nearly double the neurons that a dog has and a better long term memory. If only we could keep them awake long enough to use all that intelligence!!! 😜

Today is FRESH BREATH DAY! 🪥
Dental health is very important in pets and can affect their overall health and well being. It is recommended to brush your pets’ teeth, use oral cleansing wipes, or a dental diet to help keep the teeth clean. The doctor will check your pets’ teeth at every appointment and let you know if it is time to schedule a dental!

This week is Veterinary Assistant Week! Veterinary Assistants take your pets history in the exam room, help the doctor with the appointment, help the technicians with procedures, and do discharges! They are a key part of pet health care hospitals! If you see Wendy, Nancy or Ciera this week make sure to wish them a Happy Veterinary Assistant Week!!! 🙂🐾

The hospital will be CLOSED on Friday 7/19. We will be open from 9am-4pm on Monday 7/22 & Tuesday 7/23 for medication pick up and technician appointments only. We will resume normal hours and doctor appointments on Wednesday 7/24.

Today is Veterinary Appreciation Day! We are so lucky to have Dr. Lee and Dr. Saletros at our hospital. They are both intelligent, compassionate, and wonderful to work with! We also have an amazing support staff of vet techs and assistants who support them: Nikki, Jen, Chris, Ciera, Jojo, Wendy and Nancy!!! And at the front desk Barb & Mary are there to start and end your appointments! We are so happy to be here to help you and your fur babies! ♥️

Cats love having conversations with their owners! For those owners who talk to their cats (let’s be honest, we all do!), it’s likely that your cat talks back to you more than those who don’t! Cats are able to make over 100 different vocal sounds (dogs can only make 10)! So if you think your cat is actually responding to you, he/she most likely is!!

June is NATIONAL MICROCHIP MONTH. Millions of pets across the country end up in shelters every year. A microchip is a great way to reunite with a lost pet. Shelters, Animal Hospitals, and Police scan found pets for a microchip immediately upon finding them. If your pets are not microchipped, it a highly recommended tool to recover your furry friend if they ever get lost!

At AVAH we use HomeAgain microchips and register them for you if you get it done here. Call the hospital if your pet is not microchipped and you’re interested in getting your pet chipped!

Poor Daisy was stung by a bee and her face started swelling. Luckily her dad called us right away and brought her in so we could treat her. Daisy recovered quickly with the medications we administered in hospital! If your pet is ever stung, call us (or emergency if we are closed) to have your pup seen asap! 🐝
