We want to strengthen the human-animal bond and improve the livelihood of your companion through client education and the most advanced medical care we can provide. It involves a team approach with the pet owner(s), veterinarian, veterinary care team as well as the occasional veterinary specialists and, of course, includes the animal itself! We care about your pet, and want them to succeed and get

better as soon as possible. If we feel they would be better served by a specialist, we will let you know as soon as possible and we work closely with your pet's specialist to maintain an optimal level of care between offices and home. The Clinic:
The clinic is located in the Cape Horn Square Shopping Center at the northwest corner of Cape Horn and Lombard Roads. We are located on the west end towards Red Lion Corner Cafe. We offer plenty of off road parking in our spacious center parking lot. We have 4 comfortable exam rooms, a large pharmacy, treatment room, laboratory, centralized ICU, independent dental surgery suite and large general surgery suite, a digital radiology suite, and a separate space with generous runs for large dogs. We also have a comfort room, with a separate entrance and area of the hospital so that you may spend as much quiet time with your pet as needed.

An excellent way to accommodate the high volume of patients inside veterinary practices and allow adequate time for some treatment modalities, are drop-off appointments. This type of appointment usually has the pet owner dropping off the patient before a set time (depending on the clinic). A veterinary assistant or veterinary technician may be the staff member admitting the pet to the hospital. Common reasons for a drop off appointment would be for surgeries, diagnostic tests, treatments, grooming, and dental procedures. If the pet is on medications or certain foods, pet owners should also bring a detailed list of those medications and type of food.

Routine visits with the veterinary team help ensure pets are living healthy and well. Although there are many types of veterinary visits, as pet owners, it is best to be prepared for what may or may not happen at those visits.
First thing’s first, safety! All pets should be on a leash or in a carrier if possible. It never fails, if a pet gets loose, they WILL be scared and could escape or be injured. Those situations can be prevented by securing pets before entering the clinic. Use caution when walking into the clinic--there are likely other pets on the other side of the door. No one likes awkward meetings and neither do our pets. It is important to remember, while you are waiting with your pet for your appointment or to see a staff member, your pet needs to stay secured and safe with you. If your pet has pet insurance, bring that information as well as any/all pertinent medical history. If your pet currently takes any medications, bring a list with you that also includes when those medications were last given. If you plan to stay with your pet, bring a book or something to pass the time in case you need to wait.

What educational experience and background are credentialed veterinary technicians required to have? Currently, a veterinary technician must pass the veterinary technician national exam (VTNE). In the United States, there are currently four different titles for veterinary technicians depending on the state of licensure.
Technicians can also pursue specialization in a specific area of medicine. Similar to the veterinarian specialist process, the veterinary technician must have a minimum set of qualifications and experience to apply. The application process includes case reports, knowledge lists, and advanced skills that must be mastered. If the application is accepted, the applicant can sit for the credentialing exam. Passing the credentialing exam results in the title of veterinary technician specialist (VTS). There are currently 16 different specialty Academies for veterinary technicians. These include emergency and critical care, dental, internal medicine, anesthesia and a**lgesia, just to name a few.

There are many reasons a pet may come into the hospital that may not require seeing the veterinarian (if the pet is an established patient). Technician appointments are ideal for procedures like nail trims, blood draws, physical exams, a**l sac expression, and other tasks that do not require a veterinarian. This allows the team better utilization of everyone's time and increases patient care. Pet owners can call their veterinary healthcare team to see what type of technician appointments are available for their pet’s needs.

We want to shout from the rooftop our appreciation for our veterinary technicians this week! Each lady is exceptional in their own unique way and we are so glad to have them taking care of you and your pets!

If you speak with one of our technicians this week or encounter them during your visit, please give them an extra thanks for all of their hard work and dedication!

Sam is our lead customer service representative, but did you know she’s also been a technician for many years. Fun fact, she’s our go to gal for fractious cats!

Emily H. joined our team at the end of her external and we are so glad to have her. She brings the sunshine and joy to our lives every single day while she continues to grow her skills and confidence!

Keri also doubles as a customer service representative when we need her but is also our lead veterinary technician. She helps to maintain the organized chaos that is most days and cares for hospitalized patients. Keri also helped mentor less experienced technicians.

Courtney is our surgery technician responsible for scheduling all sedated procedures and monitoring them while under anesthesia. She is also the in house dental radiology expert! Courtney also mentors new staff to improve their skills.

Megan can be found as a customer service representative and as a technician while she finishes her schooling at YTI. Megan provides great customer service on the phone and during appointments. We look forward to her continued growth in the field.

Emily B is becoming a jack of all trades! She can be found in the front, rooms, and running our treatment area. She has taken it upon herself to take on more tasks including inventory management and staff training.

Dyalexis is our newest technician who is also finishing her career at YTI and wants to pursue a career as a veterinarian. She is still developing and honing her skills. Dyalexis learns something new each day and is a joy to work with.

Treanne helps when we send out an SOS when someone isn’t able to come to work. She has saved the day many times! Treanne has the knowledge to share with her peers and keeps the hospital stocked and clean!

Thank you to each of these ladies for going the extra mile, putting in the extra hours, shedding blood, sweat, and tears for the better of our patients. We hope that you know much you are appreciated!

Happy Veterinary Technician Week 2024!

Effective Wednesday October 30th we will no longer be scheduling nail trim appointments. This change has been made so that our staff can focus on our medical patients. Instead, one Saturday a month beginning on Saturday October 5th, we will be open from 9am-12 noon for walk-in nail trims. These walk-in nail trims will be completed on a first-come first-serve basis, and are intended for our current patients who are up to date on their annual examination and rabies vaccination.

How it works:

1.) Pull up to the curb and check in with our staff member waiting outside the front doors.

2.) Our staff member will take you and your pet’s names, your phone number, and then you can go park in the parking lot.

3.) We will call you when we are ready for you to bring your pet inside for their nail trim.

4.) Please pay for your nail trim inside, after the technicians have completed the nail trim.

**Please note that there will only be a limited number of walk-in spots available and once that number is reached we will not be able to sign anyone else in.**

Introducing Happy Yappy Practice Visits! 🐾🐶🦴
We want to start our relationship with your pet as positive and rewarding from the beginning! That is why we decided to start offering Happy Yappy Practice Visits. We invite you to bring your dog in to practice walking into our office, getting on the scale, and standing on the exam table. Our staff will spend a few minutes getting to know you and your dog and then walk them around our clinic and most importantly, give them lots and lots of treats! This will help your dog to associate the vet’s office with something positive and hopefully reduce their (and your) anxiety and stress the next time you bring them in. Every other Saturday beginning Saturday October 12th, our office will be open for you to bring your dog in for a positive experience at the vet.
