A busy New Year’s Day at our farm. Matt & Joc work hard taking good care of the coos. Steve worked on the new farm house porch pillars. I stayed warm inside (in final recovery from a cold) sorting/tossing files. Good start to 2026🎉❣️

What a productive afternoon! We spent our New Year’s Day doing some sorting of cows. Now that all of the calves have arrived, all the mommas got kicked out to pasture and we are almost back to one complete group!

Having one group instead of multiple groups makes our lives much easier particularly in the winter in terms of keeping water thawed and bale delivery more simple.

We also sorted off some yearling bull calves to steer at the vet tomorrow and 3 steers that are headed to the locker on 1/9.

Then, in addition to all of that, we did a good look at everyone and brought those who needed it, in through the headgate for an adjustment their Nofence USA collar (what this pic is from).

Thanks mom and dad for coming to keep the kiddos entertained while we got that accomplished. Starting #2026 off strong!

Calving season is coming.😁 The steers will be on their own out in cover crop doing what boys do when the girls are busy😂

Photo definitely makes it look like fall is here.

We are bringing everyone up near the house and are going to use the virtual fence to separate our soon to be calves from the rest of our herd. The cows will stay close to home so we can keep an eye on them while the rest goes back out to cover crop.

This will be a first for us and I will tell you how it goes!!!

Come to our farm on Nov 13 to learn all things virtual fencing and other precision livestock technologies that are making their way into operations. It should be a great day where we can truly get into the weeds on some new opportunities for our operations. Oh and there should be some good food served too!

Well it is about that time! We will be taking 3 grass fed and finished highland steers in this fall to the locker and sell some of our very own highland beef. Check this out for some information related to highland beef and I of course am happy to talk on getting the cuts you want and NEED!!! It will be a perfect time to fill the freezer with healthy ground beef for year round cooking and grilling, mouth watering roasts over the winter months, and other cuts like stew meat and steaks to impress your guests at holiday get togethers.

We will be doing sample packs, individual cuts, as well as bulk beef. Pricing listed below is for bulk beef orders only.

I attended a cancer roundtable session in Red Oak tonight. This growing cancer problem in Iowa is real and urgent. We must change our ag and other practices to create a safer, healthier environment for now and the future
