STONES THROW who we are
Stones Throw Farm is 70 acres of lovely Florida grass fields, large moss covered Oaks in beautiful NW Ocala Florida.
Stones Throw Farm Raises Both Warmblood horses for multi equine sports as well as a small string of home bred Thoroughbred Race horses, almost all the horses at the farm where bred here..we hand delivered and are always the first to greet each new foal.. They are all raised with a natural appreciation for the creatures they are, they are raised in large fields in groups and not locked in stalls, our horses are taught respect but to trust fully in their human counter parts, we are a bit different when it comes to our philosophy of raising horses, we are not hands on from the time they are born..They are handled, learn about a halter being lead being handled a bit and then at about a month old they go out with mom and the group to grow up they are handled and talked to in the field to be wormed vaccinated and have feet trimmed they come to the barn maybe a few times. We wean by removing the mares out of the field one at a time , babies stay with the group, we have found this to be the lease stressful way to wean and usually a day or two they are happy hanging with their friends without mom. And this is pretty much life until they are 2 usually over 2. And you would be surprised how much easier these guys are to do round pen work and get to saddle, they are more curious and eager then scared, and after a couple rides are in the big ring going around happy and confident.
We take pride in our horses they are friendly happy people loving animals they are forgiving and patient and preform well in there chosen sport.
Larry Getto owner, is a Farrier with many years shoeing horses for top riders, solving many foot issues and has great knowledge when it comes to the function of the foot and the ability to watch and see what the horse is telling him...This is very important not just for his farrier work but with training, knowing when and how much is needed and not to push to the point of causing harm. He is excellent with joining up (as they call it) work in round pen and builds a great foundation of trust and work ethic on young horses
