This is a skin scraping from the paw of a dog. The pretty cell in the center is called an eosinophil. The cell is filled with red granules. They are commonly seen with hypersensitivity disorders. In dogs, parasites and food allergies are the most common reasons for eosinophils to present on cytology samples.

Attention CT backyard flock owners and poultry producers! ⚠️

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (bird flu) has been confirmed in a backyard flock of birds in New London County. All bird owners are advised to enhance biosecurity practices to protect their flocks.

🐭 Keep wild birds and rodents out of poultry houses and coops.
🦆 Don’t let poultry have contact with migratory waterfowl or other wild birds.
🧼 Wash hands and boots before and after entering the poultry area.
🐥 Buy birds from reputable sources to receive heathy birds.
🚜 Restrict traffic onto and off your property.
📋 Have a written biosecurity plan in place.

Flock owners are encouraged to report anything unusual, especially sick or dead birds, to CT DoAg at 860-713-2505 or [email protected] or the USDA at 866-536-7593.

It’s that time of year when pets come in wearing their winter swag. We absolutely love it! We know that East Coast temps can fluctuate so it’s important to keep our furry loved ones warm and toasty. Winter brings many health challenges for our pets as well. The road salt can irritate their paws. Black ice can makes walks treacherous. Their ears and toes can get frostbite from too much exposure to the cold. So bundle them up and stay safe out there.

It’s a new year so time to make sure your indoor cats are up to date on their Annual Physical Exams and Rabies vaccine. Annual exams keep pets healthy and comfortable. The State of Connecticut requires all cats and dogs over the age of 3 months to be vaccinated for Rabies. It’s the law. Call us and we are happy to check to see if your pets are up to date on their Rabies vaccine.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles. Many people have lost the homes and many pets have been displaced. The Pasadena Humane Society is looking for donations and fosters. Animals are coming in with burns and the need is great.

We love your pets like our own.

Dr. Stanley Truffini started this business as a young Cornell educated veterinarian back in the late 70’s. Since then it has remained a practice of excellence serving our local Georgetown, CT community with an incredible staff and state of the art equipment. His partner and fellow Cornellian, Dr. Carol Gamez joined him in 2003 and together they have continued to practice high quality medicine in their beautiful hospital here in Georgetown, CT. Our wonderful associate Dr. Lindsay Rosenblitt compliments our mission to give our clients and their pets the best veterinary experience.
