We had to say goodbye to a very special dog this week. He was an incredible rescue dog, loving companion and joyful ball of fluff. He was deeply loved by his entire family and adored by all. Astro was an impressive 19 years young. Astro, you made impressions on our hearts and we are all saddened by your loss. This Thanksgiving, we are grateful to have had the opportunity to be your veterinary care providers for all these years. Rest in peace sweet Astro Dog. Sending our heartfelt condolences to the Trumpbour Family. Georgetown Veterinary Hospital 🐾♥️

It’s right around the corner! Keep your pets safe during Thanksgiving. No table scraps, fatty foods or desserts…even if they give you “the look”. Keep them away from turkey bones that can splinter, causing choking or digestive issues. And remember, some foods that are healthy for people are poisonous to pets, including onions, raisins, and grapes. We wish you and yours a fabulous Thanksgiving!

What happens at a baby bird check up? At Georgetown Veterinary Hospital, each baby gets a physical examination and is weighed. We screen for parasites with a f***l in saline test. Many times we will also recommend some blood work or a Psittacosis PCR test. Every band number is recorded and band removal is offered. We finish it off with a pedicure. These are 2 of Becky’s new baby birds that made a surprise visit to our hospital today!

Thank you Veterans. Thank you.

- The AVMA wants to send out a big thank you to all service members - including all the veterinary professionals and AVMA members who care for our military animals. If you’d like to show your support for veterans, you can help in two different ways:

1️⃣ By supporting the AVMA/AVMF Scholarship for Veterans – which helps military veterans pursue an education in veterinary medicine.
2️⃣ Consider a donation to American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) Veterinary Charitable Care - which awards grants that support the charitable veterinary medical care of dogs and service animals for military veterans. Visit avmf.org/Donate to learn more.

Handsome Mr.Cheddar just came out of surgery and is sporting his new leopard surgical suit. These suits are great while animals heal. The suit protects the incision and keeps the area clean. SurgiSuits can also lessen the chance of damage to the sutures and suture site as they protect them from claws and teeth. 😊

We received this shout out from one of our previous employees this morning. Thank you Erin for your kind words.

“I had to take a break from studying to be a dog trainer this past week and a half, but I’m so grateful and relieved to say that Lana is finally on the mend!❤️‍🩹 It warms my heart to look over and see her on her bed, watching me with those loving eyes while I’m in the kitchen. She really is such a precious soul, and I’m beyond thankful to still have her by my side. 🐾

A huge thank you to the incredible team at VCA and my friends at Georgetown Veterinary Hospital who took such wonderful care of her over these last few days. I may be a little biased because I worked there, but I know first hand that the veterinary technicians, assistants, and veterinarians there provide the most compassionate, high-quality care. Thank you for everything! Carol Gamez, Patricia Murcia Castelblanco,Karen Cujar,Rebecca Beuchler Kaufman, Becky Rackear-Sturm,Lori Mazzola. 🩷”

We love your pets like our own.

Dr. Stanley Truffini started this business as a young Cornell educated veterinarian back in the late 70’s. Since then it has remained a practice of excellence serving our local Georgetown, CT community with an incredible staff and state of the art equipment. His partner and fellow Cornellian, Dr. Carol Gamez joined him in 2003 and together they have continued to practice high quality medicine in their beautiful hospital here in Georgetown, CT. Our wonderful associate Dr. Lindsay Rosenblitt compliments our mission to give our clients and their pets the best veterinary experience.
