PSA...Beware of Doxycycline & Clindamycin
I am sharing a post from my personal page about the loss of our sweet Posey. She was not feeling well the end of September. She was given two medications over the course of a couple of weeks, both we now know having the potential to get stuck in the esophagus and cause burns. This happened to our girl and we did not realize because we thought it was just the side effects causing her to not eat. That is normal with antibiotics. We were never told of the potential for this to happen when given these medications. So please be very vigilant when your fur babies are given medications. Do some research because the vets don't give out the pamphlets like a pharmacy does. Unfortunately the burn she sustained to her esophagus caused a stricture. That is scar tissue formed that narrowed her esophagus. After 4 days in the hospital, two scopes and balloonings to attempt to break down the scar tissue, we had to make the hardest decision to let her go. She was perfectly healthy otherwise, but there were no guarantees that more procedures would be able to fix the problem. We did everything that we possibly could for her. After many sleepless nights, giving meds, tube feeding, praying for a miracle and thousands of dollars we didn't have, we said goodbye to Posey on Friday.
