Brie Yhlen hosted her first schooling show at her own Caboray Ranch and we couldn’t have been happier with the facility, the fun, and the wonderful experience it offered to the group of riders and horses I brought!

It gave the horses and riders a wonderful opportunity to practice or show off what they have been working on at home!

To be proud of all of them is an understatement. I’m most proud of their commitment and their attitudes!

It was a an amazing experience for all!

Canyon Lake Farm will be hosting its own schooling show on Dec 15th!!!

Our Level One Introduction to Horses Class is in our 2nd month and it’s been a complete success! This class is hands on, educational and provides tons of outdoor fun for horse crazy kids!

This new class is geared towards new riders who want to learn about horses and riding. Start here to start your journey with horses and meet other like minded friends!

Courses are available Tuesdays and Saturdays. 4 courses per month for $275. 1-1.5 hour group classes.

This is why your turn does not come from pulling on the rein. Note the riders hand and leg position and hip angle in each sketch. Note the development of the horses muscles in each sketch. Note the shape of the horse in each sketch. A truly supple, truly bent horse is working through their entire body. It is OUR job as the rider to guide the horse to become soft, supple, and through in all movements.

Rider one is pulling the nose around, and trying to push the haunches in, with a following outside rein offering the horse no balance, and a hardly supportive inside leg to wrap around. This has created a rigid, stiff horse that will surely be back sore, weak in the hind end, with front end bulk in all the wrong places. This horse has every opportunity, and will likely be so uncomfortable that it will try every time, to run out of his right shoulder.

Rider two is pushing the horse from his inside leg to his outside rein. The outside rein is providing a balance point for the horse, allowing him to be both comfortable and willing to carry himself. Because the riders rein is supportive and blocking the shoulder, the horse can not blow out the shoulder, and can only become truly bent along the entire length of the spine.

In order to build the athlete you want, and to allow your horse the opportunity to have a long, successful, and most importantly SOUND career, it is important to understand how we ride, even in seemingly simple tasks such as the walk or trotting circles, is effecting each muscle in your horses body. Not all muscle is good muscle!

We encourage strong independence and help each student find their strengths, and weaknesses and learn to the skills overcome them.

Proud Trainer Moment! 13 year old rider and her 5 year old horse, schooling themselves on a Sunday! This kid has put in the time and dedication and it shows! She had her first lesson with me many years ago:) Her position, effectiveness, and quiet confidence is what we strive for in my lesson program 💯✔️😊💪🏼

Learning and understanding the building blocks of riding is part of the journey. Taking the time to be patient and allowing the feel to happen is essential. This young horse (5) and rider (13) have worked sooo hard and her ability to think and not rush and trust the process has made this transition possible. He’s still learning how to do walk to canter transitions and she is still learning how to balance him/timing…. But here they achieved exactly what I had hoped for. Multiple times. Huge shout out to this fabulous team of Kaylee and Torch! Huge thank you to her family for getting her the ranch so often this summer because it’s made the difference! Ride more not less! @ljuarez4

These 3 horses made their riders week by being such great teachers:) 2 Reds and 1 Black.

So excited for this pair to go to their first show. This kid has been working so hard and has made amazing progress this year! Kaylee and Mamosa 🦄♥️🤩

This 7 year old put the cones up herself. We told her they were awfully close together. She nailed it. Ellie and Maggie are amazing!

Spencer having a magical moment today with Adrean! This horse is extremely complicated to ride. The most sensitive guy, who’d rather run than trot, and today, he trotted when asked, zero breaks, and he held his fancy self at the trot turn after turn. So proud of this young lady’s determination. She never gets upset with him when he makes a mistake. This week he’s been better than he ever has before. They are working together like a team and I couldn’t be more proud ❤️❤️❤️❤️🦄🦄🦄 Sometimes the best ride is at home.

I’m so grateful for these wonderful horses ♥️🦄 These three girls rode each horse today. Working on adjusting themselves to each horses personality. Every rider is different and every horse is different. We strive to find the best match for each kid, but working with a horse that challenges you and takes you out of your comfort zone, is also extremely beneficial. #horse #horsebackridinglessons #horsecamp
