Do you add eggs to your dog's raw diet? Eggs are a super nutritious addition to the bowl (for those who feed fresh and those who don't).

We like to feed a variety of eggs, including quail, chicken and duck eggs. Quail and duck eggs are great for dogs who are allergic to chicken, and they typically contain more nutritional value than chicken eggs.

For dogs who struggle to eat adequate amounts of fresh raw liver, eggs can be used to boost several key nutrients that liver provides in the diet.

Omega-3s are an essential part of a raw diet, and the best way to supply them is fish! Up to 10% of the entire diet can be comprised of fish. Ideal fish to feed dogs are low-mercury oily fish such as:

•Smelts
•Anchovies
•Sardines
•Herring
•Mackerel
•Cod

Many dogs enjoy fish frozen, so if you're finding that your dog is apprehensive of eating a whole fish, try feeding it frozen! Fresh, wild caught fish are ideal, but you can also source canned fish - just make sure they are canned in water or olive oil with no sodium or seasonings added.

Most pre-made raw food blends are considered nutritionally complete, but there’s always extra add ons that can improve the health of our dogs.

While there’s no need to over-saturate nutritionally, (which can actually hinder nutrient absorption) there are certainly great ways to add variety to your dog’s diet that benefit them.

Hard to watch we know, but this is nature!

While observing our pets consume a prey animal may be challenging for some, the benefits are tremendous. We've discussed feeding whole prey before, but want to highlight the benefits of feeding fur.

•Fur provides a source of manganese, which is often lacking in a raw diet and supports bone mineral density and is key to good bone health.

•Fur is a source of fiber and cleans out the digestive tract. When the digestive system is cleaned, it better facilitates the absorption of nutrients!

•An improved digestive system strengthens the immune system.

•As fur scrubs out the digestive tract, it also helps eliminate worms and parasites from a dog's gut.

•Fur helps to bulk up stool, providing more consistent, solid bowel movements and naturally expressing the a**l glands.

•Gnawing away at furry parts helps clean the teeth and gums.

You can add fur to the diet via feeding whole prey, or adding pieces of pelt with fur on, furry feet, heads and/or ears.

Salmon roe is a beneficial source of omega-3s to ALL dogs, but we highly recommend feeding it puppies and pregnant adults because of how valuable these nutrients are to the developing brain. A little goes a long way, too!

Your dog can derive almost all of the nutrients it needs to thrive from consuming whole prey animals. However, most DIY raw diets or 80/10/10 blends do not contain the entire animal, but an assemblage of parts of the animal.

Modern butchering practices strip some parts away from the animal before they are processed and delivered to consumers. This includes the blood, fur/feathers/hide, and often the feet, head, tail and more. These parts contain nutrients and trace minerals that are valuable to our dogs. Including trace mineral rich foods in the diet in addition to muscle, organ and bone ensures that any dietary gaps are filled.

A supergreens blend is a simple and effective way to do just that!

Turmeric is an incredible supplemental superfood that you can add to your dog's diet to provide some great benefits.

An easy way to feed it is to make a golden paste. We carry organic turmeric powder by Sunfood here in store that you can use in your recipe! We also love using raw turmeric root freshly ground as well as powders.

Add 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of golden paste per 10lbs of your dog's body weight up to daily.

We all know dogs love bully sticks, but when the stick becomes too short, it can become a chocking hazard.

Fat pets are not cute.

Obesity is a major problem amongst pet dogs, and the consequences are devastating. We as humans are ultimately responsible for the care and well-being of our dogs, and neglecting to support them in maintaining a healthy body condition is unfair and cruel.

Certainly, there are medical reasons why some dogs may struggle to maintain a healthy weight, but we should all do our best to help our dogs feel good in their bodies and live long, healthy, active and happy lives.

There are many risk factors including breed, size, speed of eating, exercise, stress and genetics, but the ingredients in your dog's diet play a huge role in either increasing or decreasing the risk of developing bloat.

The Green Tripe roll contains 100% green tripe.

The Xcaliber Beef blend contains: green tripe, beef heart, beef tongue, beef trachea and ground bone. (It does not have vitamins added so you would need to add organ to make it a complete meal).

We will also be stocking fresh cow hooves. We will be selling some plain and some stuffed with tripe!

These hooves are not rock hard and dehydrated like the ones you find in the pet store. They are raw and more supple and dogs go absolutely crazy for them.

Raw feeding is so much more than clean breath, less shedding and smaller stool; it’s an investment in your dog’s health and lifespan.

Our mission here at FRDF is driven from the heart. We want all dogs to be eating what they were designed to eat. One out of two dogs will get cancer in its lifetime. Science shows a direct correlation to the preservatives, fillers and by-products causing inflammation which leads to all types of diseases in our dogs, including cancer.

Dogs of all breeds lived closer to 20 years of age when naturally reared and fed species appropriate diets. Our trust is in Mother Nature and our goal is to change the health and lifespan of dogs back to what it was before they were eating dry, processed foods.

The first thing you will notice once you switch your dog to raw, even if your dog was lean, will be that the inflammation vanishes. While addressing dog behavior problems with training is fundamental to creating change, it doesn’t always address the whole picture. Physical health impacts mental health, and poor diet not only limits improvement in behavioral issues like anxiety and hyperactivity, it can also exacerbate those issues.

The high amounts of starches and chemicals in dry dog foods can lead to a frantic mindset and increase feelings of anxiousness that lead to other behavioral problems.

How can we expect dogs to be good if they don’t feel good?

Scrappy Doo here was so riddled with anxiety that it was nearly impossible for him to settle his body and mind, and he struggled to absorb communication in training.

He couldn’t focus even when only receiving his food in training or being taught basic engagement games.

The tether exercise is all about self soothing. Even 2+ weeks into training he never laid down on the bed once. Not after playgroup, not after an intense training session and certainly not when we approached the bed. He was totally incapable of relaxing.

We got the okay from his owner who was already intrigued by raw and switched him cold turkey to our Performance Dog blend.

The second clip shows a change in his anxiety just days after switching. His physical and mental health will improve drastically as time goes on with the benefits of a clean and species appropriate diet as well as training.

Let’s talk about a new shop product! Not only does CBD reduce inflammation, prevent cancer, help with pain and soreness, it also has a massive impact on our dogs behaviorally.

We will be sharing some videos of how we use CBD in behavior modification training. We have used CBD a lot over the years to help dogs who suffer from debilitating anxiety, hyperactivity and fear become more calm and poised. CBD has often been the the tool that has helped dogs put all of the training they are receiving together. It allows a space for a dog to mentally surrender and relax and absorb what it’s learning more deeply. It creates better focus and a more clear mind. The impact it can have on some dogs during the training process is profound.
