🐕 Walk Your Dog Month: Watch Out for Hidden Dangers! 🐾⚠️
As we celebrate Walk Your Dog Month, it's the perfect time to remember how important it is to keep our furry friends safe while they're out enjoying their daily stroll. Whether it’s a casual walk around the neighborhood or a hike through the woods, there are a number of common hazards your dog might encounter along the way. Here are a few to watch out for:
🚬 Cigarette Butts
Cigarette butts may seem harmless, but they contain toxins like ni****ne, which can be extremely harmful to dogs if ingested. Keep an eye on your pup and try to avoid areas where littering is common.
🍔 Food Scraps
Leftover food, especially things like cooked bones, chocolate, grapes, or xylitol-containing products (such as gum), can be toxic to dogs. Be cautious of discarded food scraps in public spaces, as these could be tempting treats for your curious dog.
🌿 Ma*****na
With the increasing use of ma*****na, dogs are more likely to encounter discarded edibles or plants. Ingesting ma*****na can cause severe symptoms in dogs, including lethargy, vomiting, and even seizures. Always stay vigilant about what your dog might find!
🍄 Mushrooms (Especially in Washington State)
Certain wild mushrooms are highly toxic to dogs, and Washington State's climate makes it a hotspot for mushroom growth. Even non-toxic mushrooms can cause digestive issues, so it's best to prevent your dog from nibbling on any fungi during walks.
At Brookfield Veterinary Hospital, we care about your pet’s health and safety. If you suspect your dog has ingested something harmful, don't hesitate to contact us immediately.
Let's keep our dogs safe, happy, and healthy while enjoying the great outdoors! 🌲🐾
