**MORE ON NEW CDC GUIDELINES FOR CANINE TRAVEL
Recently, we sent an email to all of our clients regarding the new import requirements to gain entry back into the US if you are taking your dog out of the country (this includes Mexico and Canada). Please understand that it is a legal requirement by the CDC, not a Brookfield policy.
To help better prepare you for this change starting August 1, 2024, please make sure your dog passes the checklist for creating the “Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccine form”:
1- Must be 6 months of age or older
2- Must have an iso compliant Microchip
3- Must have a valid Rabies vaccine, performed after the Microchip implantation
a. If your pet does not have a microchip we will have to revaccinate, and the paperwork cannot be submitted until 28 days after the new Rabies vaccine
4- Must have a current and valid exam with Brookfield veterinary Hospital
a. This means within the previous 12 months for dogs 8 years
5- If your pet received their Rabies vaccine elsewhere, we will need all previous records ahead of time and a copy of the last 5 years of Rabies certificates
6- If you have traveled to any “high risk” countries listed in the DogBot within the last 6 months, we will need to arrange additional time for paperwork
7- You will be required to submit the import form (separate from the Certification of U.S.-Issued Rabies Vaccine form) on your own
Please give us at least 30 days PRIOR to travel so we can arrange the appropriate exam, vaccine, and paperwork. Once the paperwork is complete, it can take 2-4 weeks for official endorsement through the USDA. If it is required to repeat vaccination to comply with the regulations, plan at least an additional 2 weeks to coordinate.
Additionally, please be aware that depending upon the circumstance of your travel, there may be different fees and charges associated with your pet's visit.
