Thanks to our rescue partners at the Merced SPCA and LA County, we’ve been able to help cats displaced by the devastating fires in Southern California — cats like Junie. 🐾✨

Junie is a 12-year-old blind and deaf tabby who was separated from her mom when they were fleeing their home in Altadena. Disoriented and afraid, she wandered toward the flames and suffered burns to her face, ears, and nose before being rescued. ❤️‍🩹

Sadly, Junie’s mom lost everything in the fire and could no longer keep her. She made the heartbreaking decision to surrender Junie, hoping she’d have a chance at a safe and loving future. 💛

Now in our care, Junie is healing — inside and out. Despite all she’s endured, she’s gentle, affectionate, and full of quiet grace.

She’s still receiving treatment to help her recover fully, but we expect her to be ready for adoption soon. She dreams of a calm, patient home where she can feel safe and cherished again. 🏠

Meet Bill: The Soulful Senior Who’s Waiting for You 💗

When 12-year-old Bill was abandoned at a local shelter, no one knew his story. There were no notes, just a quiet cat with soulful eyes and a coat that had seen better days. But even in those first moments, one thing was clear: Bill had once known love. 💞

From the moment he arrived at Nine Lives, Bill quickly became a volunteer and staff favorite. His scruffy fur and lanky limbs add to his charm, and his quiet, calming presence makes everyone spend extra time in his condo. Bill doesn't just look at you—he sees you. He gently rests his paw on your hand, offering quiet reassurance. We often joke that Bill is secretly a wise old soul passing through this life to teach us empathy. 😿

He gets along beautifully with feline roommates—always peaceful, always the gentleman. Recently, a local Girl Scout troop visited our adoption center to learn about animal advocacy. He leaned in, soaking up every moment. It made his entire week—and ours, too. 💗💗

Bill's story inspired our volunteers so deeply that they created custom badges with his sweet face, proudly worn while sharing his story with potential adopters. These badges symbolize the deep connection we’ve all formed with this extraordinary boy. 😻

We don’t know why Bill was left behind, but we’re grateful he’s safe now. Yet, as kitten season arrives and the shelter fills with tiny babies, older cats like Bill are often overlooked. It breaks our hearts to think someone might miss out on the gentle magic of a cat like him just because he’s not a kitten. 💔

Right now, it’s never been a better time to adopt. This April, all adult cats (5+ months old) are $50, and senior cats like Bill (7+ years) have waived adoption fees—just $0. Because every cat deserves a forever home.

🐾💖 Future Animal Advocates in Action! 💖🐾

We were thrilled to host the amazing students from Footsteps Interact Club at our adoption center! These young animal advocates spent the day learning hands-on how to care for vulnerable cats and kittens. They jumped right in with our team, providing enrichment for our rescue cats and making sure every feline felt extra loved!

But that's not all—these incredible students also made a generous donation to help us save even more lives. It's inspiring to see the next generation stepping up to make a difference!

For a one-year-old kitty, Valentina has already endured so much suffering. 💔

When she arrived at Nine Lives in February, her tiny body was covered in scabs, her fur was thin and patchy, and her face and ears were raw with painful lesions.

The relentless itching caused her to scratch and rub at her skin, making her suffering even worse. She needed help — and fast. 🚑

Our team jumped into action, treating her with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and a hypoallergenic diet to heal her from the inside out. Slowly but surely, the scabs faded, her fur grew back, and for the first time in a long time, she could finally rest without pain.

Through it all, Valentina never lost her sweet spirit. Even at her most uncomfortable, she purred, made biscuits, and climbed into our arms for cuddles. She truly lives for love! 💖🐾

After almost two months in our care, Valentina is fully healed and ready to find her forever home. Could that be with you?

🚨 Kitten Season is Officially Here! 🐾

In just the last two weeks, we’ve taken in kittens found in stairwells, rescued from under cars, and brought in from overwhelmed shelters. The need is real — and urgent.

Last year, Nine Lives Foundation saved nearly 600 kittens from at-risk situations… and this year, the problem is only growing.

Say hello to Mocha, a stunning seal point beauty with mesmerizing blue eyes and an unbreakable spirit. ☕️✨

When Mocha first arrived at Nine Lives, she faced a tough battle. She struggled to walk, her hind legs dragging behind her, likely due to past trauma.

On top of that, she had severe dental disease, urinary tract and upper respiratory infections, and stomatitis, a painful condition causing inflammation in her mouth and gums. 💔

Our team quickly sprang into action. Mocha received antibiotics and antivirals to fight her infections, followed by an intense, hours-long dental surgery to remove her teeth and give her much-needed relief. 🩺

Thanks to daily enrichment and lots of love, Mocha has grown stronger and more confident with each passing day—and she continues to show us just how resilient she truly is.

Now, she’s ready for a loving home where she can be cherished for the incredible, sweet soul she is. Come meet her at our Adoption Center this weekend! 🏡🐾

Nine Lives is proud to be the leading TNR rescue in the Bay Area! In 2024, we performed 2,678 TNR surgeries, helping to reduce the population of homeless cats and improve the lives of countless community cats. 🌟

What is TNR?
Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a humane way to manage feral and community cat populations. Cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and ear-tipped for identification. They’re then returned to their colonies to live out their lives without adding to the homeless population.

Meet Julie—a resilient 2-month-old black and white long-haired kitty with a heart as big as her adorable charm! When Julie arrived at Nine Lives at just 4 weeks old, her survival was far from guaranteed. She was congested, had diarrhea, and was barely clinging to life. But thanks to the dedicated care of her loving foster family and our compassionate vet team, Julie received regular check-ups, vital vaccines, and even underwent crucial surgery. Now, she's blossomed into a sweet, affectionate velcro kitty who's ready for a fantastic forever home. Although we'll miss her quirky, cheeky charm at the shelter, we know she's destined for amazing things.
