Say hello to Drax, an adorable orange tabby with extra toes, a big heart, and an even bigger purr! 🧡 At just six months old, Drax has already shown incredible resilience.

Rescued from a heartbreaking situation in early January, he arrived with an upper respiratory infection, ear mites, bacterial ear infections in both ears, diarrhea, and a noticeable head tilt. But despite all his ailments, this sweet boy has shown nothing but love.

Drax is a polydactyl kitty, meaning he has extra toes, which makes him all the more special — and incredibly adept at reaching out for cuddles! His sweet and affectionate nature has quickly made him a staff favorite at our Adoption Center. 😻

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been giving Drax everything he needs to thrive: vaccines, ear drops, antibiotics, supplements, and of course, plenty of toys and lots of love.

Now, with his recovery nearly complete, Drax will soon be ready to find his forever home! Could his next chapter include you? 💗💗💗

RVTs are a vital part of our medical team, assisting in a variety of procedures while caring for rescued cats and kittens. This dynamic role offers exposure to a wide range of cases, from performing physical exams and treatments to prepping cats for surgery and monitoring them post-op in our High-Quality, High-Volume Spay/Neuter (HQHVSN) clinic.

What We're Looking For:
✔️ At least 3+ years of experience
✔️ HQHVSN background preferred
✔️ Compassionate and skilled in handling cats

Barn cats, also known as working cats, are incredible companions for outdoor spaces like barns, sheds, and garages. They help control pests and provide a natural solution to rodent issues. But for these cats, being adopted as working cats means so much more—it’s a chance at life in a safe, stable environment when returning to their colonies is no longer an option.

All our barn cats are spayed, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. While they are feral and may avoid human interaction, they still deserve care and kindness. By adopting a barn cat, you’re giving these resilient creatures a second chance in a new home.

🛠 What You Need to Adopt a Barn Cat

Proper shelter: A barn, shed, or garage with safe places to sleep and hide from predators.

Transition period: Barn cats must stay in a fully enclosed shelter for 2-4 weeks to learn their new surroundings.

🌟 Shmisty’s Happy Tail: A 300-Day Journey to Forever! 🌟

Hi there, it’s me, Shmisty! After spending almost 300 days in the loving care of Nine Lives, I finally found my purrfect match – my new mom, Robyn! She visited me a few times, and when she came back recently, I just knew she was the one. I even came out of my cozy bedding cavern (a big deal for me!) to greet her again. 💕

And guess what? My best friend Molly came home with me too! We’ve been inseparable in the adoption center, and now we get to share a forever home together. 🐾

I want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who shared my posts and helped me find my forever family. Your kindness and support made this happy ending possible. ❤️

To all the amazing volunteers and staff who took care of me, played with me, and believed in me every day – I’ll miss you so much! Thank you for loving me and Molly while we waited for this moment.

As 2024 comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible impact we’ve made together. ✨

Thanks to your support, we’ve rescued and found homes for hundreds of vulnerable cats and kittens — and helped other rescue organizations do the same. ❤️

Jolly’s story is a perfect example of how your generosity makes a difference. 🐈

This sweet two-year-old tabby came to us from Woody Cat Rescue with a fractured front leg, leaving him in constant pain. Our lead surgeon, Dr. Desai, performed a life-changing amputation surgery to relieve his suffering and give him a fresh start. But Jolly’s challenges didn’t end there.

Living with FIV made Jolly more vulnerable to stomatitis, a painful inflammation of the mouth and gums. When Woody Cat Rescue noticed Jolly struggling to eat, they turned to us for help once again.

Our surgical team performed a complex, four-hour dental surgery to remove Jolly’s damaged teeth, and now he’s pain-free and thriving. 🎉 He’s living his best life, all thanks to your support.

When Remy came to Nine Lives earlier this year, he in dire condition. He was dehydrated and lethargic, and had a bite wound on his leg, an ulcer in his eye, and severe dental disease with painful lesions on his gums. 💔

To make things worse, he tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and a blood parasite that was attacking his own blood cells.

But we refused to give up on him. 💪 After months of intensive care — including antibiotics, blood tests, and other treatments to stabilize his condition — Remy gained the strength he needed. Only then could our veterinary team perform the dental surgery to relieve his pain and give him the fresh start he deserved. 🏥✨

Today, Remy is thriving! 🐾 He’s an affectionate, playful kitty who loves tummy rubs, birdwatching from his window perch, and snuggling with his new dads, Jeffrey and Tim. ❤️

This year alone, Nine Lives has rescued more than 950 cats and kittens, many arriving in heartbreaking condition just like Remy. But so many more are still waiting for their second chance — and we can’t do it without you.

Mew came to us in April with her tiny, two-week-old kittens. She had endured severe injuries, including a broken leg and metal fragments in her body — likely from a gunshot. 💔

But even after all she endured, this brave mama never stopped protecting her babies.

Because Mew was still nursing, amputation surgery had to wait. While she cared for her little ones in a loving foster home, we made sure she received all the support and care she needed to stay comfortable and safe.

Once her kittens were weaned and ready for adoption, Mew underwent spay and amputation surgeries at our clinic and began her own journey to recovery. 🏥 Today, she’s thriving in her forever home alongside one of her kittens, Teddy. 🐾

Mew’s transformation was only possible because of supporters like you. But for every cat like Mew, so many others are waiting for their chance.

Hello there, kind-hearted human. My name is Shmisty. Today marks my 275th day at Nine Lives Foundation. That’s 275 days of waiting, hoping, and watching as other kitties find their forever families while I remain here, wondering when it will be my turn.

When I first arrived here, I was a little scared. You see, I was abandoned and ended up at Stockton Animal Shelter, where my future was uncertain. Thankfully, Nine Lives rescued me, gave me medical care, and provided me with love. But I still don’t have the one thing I dream about—a family to call my own.

The amazing staff and volunteers at Nine Lives have gone above and beyond for me. They’ve made posters with my picture, advertised me in local newspapers, and even worn badges with my face to tell everyone about what a kind, loving girl I am. They have even sponsored my adoption fee. They’ve been my biggest cheerleaders, but still, I wait.

The shelter isn’t so bad. I have food, care, and lots of love, but it’s not a forever home. For a cat like me, the days can feel long. I’ve watched hundreds of cats and kittens come and go. Each time one of my roommates gets adopted, I feel a pang of sadness but also hope—maybe I’ll be next.

My journey hasn’t been without challenges. When I arrived, I had trouble with my weight, occasional congestion, and some mild dental issues. The veterinarians and staff here made sure I got all the treatments I needed. Thanks to their care, I’m now a healthy, happy girl.

I don’t ask for much—just a warm place to sleep, a few kind pets, and someone to love me as much as I’ll love them. I’m affectionate, gentle, and ready to give my heart to someone special.

The volunteers call me their “gentle gem,” and the staff say I have the sweetest soul. I just need someone to give me a chance to show how much love I have to give.

Meet Cooper: A Handsome Senior Kitty Looking for a Holiday Miracle 🎄

Cooper is a stunning eight-year-old senior kitty with piercing green eyes and a luxurious blue-grey coat that matches his dignified personality. Rescued from Hayward Animal Services, Cooper has faced his fair share of challenges, but his resilience and gentle spirit shine through.

When Cooper arrived at Nine Lives, he had a history of medical hurdles, including Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), which weakens a cat's immune system but doesn’t define their quality of life. Despite his diagnosis, Cooper’s sweet demeanor and calm nature quickly won over the hearts of our staff and volunteers.

Thanks to the expert care from our veterinary team, Cooper has regained his strength and is now ready for his forever home. He enjoys quiet moments, sunbathing in cozy spots, and gazing out the window with curiosity. Cooper would thrive in a calm environment with a loving family that appreciates the unique beauty and personality of senior cats.

Ermintrude came to Nine Lives in August from Ohlone Humane Society, and like so many cats who’ve lived on the streets, her story is one of survival, resilience, and hope.

When she arrived, this petite four-month-old tabby was terrified — startled by loud noises and the busy shelter environment. We could only imagine the hardships she had endured. Yet, there was a spark of curiosity and a soft side that gave us hope she'd learn to trust again.

With the love and patience of her foster caregiver, Sachi, Ermintrude has blossomed into a playful, affectionate “Velcro lap cat” who adores head scratches, cozy cat trees, and dragging herself across the carpet like a silly little worm. 🐛 She’s looking for a calm, quiet home where she can continue to build her confidence.
