Himmelgarten

Himmelgarten Himmelgarten is a small urban-farm CSA [Community Supported Agriculture] - a system where people support a farm by paying ahead for shares of its produce.

We have subscriptions available for up to 12 households 36 weeks a year, March to November. Subscribers pay ahead for a 12-week quarter, or for Spring, Summer, and Fall combined. This year we offer 3 options: a smaller one-person bag, the regular bag, and a larger family size. Subscribers drop by on Tuesday afternoon/evening and pick up a bag containing at least $25 worth of very fresh vegetables,

fruit, and herbs. We try to include interesting and uncommon varieties of produce. In the spring we have many kinds of greens for braising and for salads, also artichokes, broccoli, and peas. In the summer there are blackberries, peaches, plums, tomatoes, eggplants, beans, and squash. In the fall we have apples, pumpkins, peppers, tomatillos, persimmons, and greens again. Each week there is a bouquet garni of three herbs and a flower or two. This is Tom and Sandy Farley’s retirement project aimed developing friendly connections in our neighborhood. We have solar power and get about half of our garden water from a well. We try to work organically, but our size and close neighbors disqualify us from organic certification. Some of our subscribers help out on workdays or share their own produce with the group and with Ecumenical Hunger Program. We welcome visitors to Himmelgarten. You may want to put your name on the “Occasional Bag” list. When we have lots of produce, we do up a few extra bags, e-mail you, and you can call back to reserve a bag for $25.

"Carrots are so delicious,
They're also quite nutritious
The oranges are sweet
The snow peas are neat
Kale makes you feel ambitious."

Our Story

We have subscriptions available for up to 8 households 36 weeks a year, March to November. Subscribers pay $250 for a 12-week quarter, or $700 for Spring, Summer, and Fall. Single adult rate: $170 for 12 weeks, $500 for 36 weeks. This is Tom and Sandy Farley’s retirement project aimed at developing friendly connections in our neighborhood. Subscribers drop by on Tuesday afternoon/evening and pick up a bag containing $25 worth of very fresh vegetables, fruit, and herbs. Often our subscribers help out on workdays or share their own produce with the group and with Ecumenical Hunger Program. We have solar power and get about half of our garden water from a well. We try to work organically, but our size and close neighbors disqualify us from organic certification. We try to include interesting and uncommon varieties of produce. In the spring we have many kinds of greens for braising and for salads, also artichokes, broccoli, and peas. In the summer there are peaches, plums, tomatoes, eggplants, beans, and squash. In the fall we have apples, pumpkins, persimmons, and greens again. Our bees work, too, and everyone gets a share of the honey. Each week there is a bouquet garni of three herbs and a flower or two. We welcome visitors to Himmelgarten. You may want to put your name on the “Occasional Bag” list. When we have lots of produce, we do up a few extra bags, e-mail you, and you can call back to reserve a bag for $25.
