Well I guess I finally need to let Romeo’s fans know about his health crisis. He needs his prayer warriors big time.

In May I noticed him eating carrots in a funny way. Thought it was related to his power float the month before. Kind of
forgot about it. Then in August he started having copious amounts of green snot coming from his left nostril. Putting it all together I thought
Okay infected tooth or sinus infection. So end of August to the vet we go.
Upon oral exam with speculum opening his mouth wide it was apparent that his
problem was much worse. He has a Squamus Cell Carcinoma (SCC)tumor on the soft palet at the back of his mouth and it also involves the back two molars on his left side. They did a biopsy that confirmed the diagnosis. SCC in the oral cavity in horses is rare. They could only find one paper on it and it didn’t turn out good. We decided to have a recheck visit after our trip to do an endoscope
Exam and see if we could discover how extensive it is.
We got good news in that all tissues up the nasal passages looks healthy. Snotty nose stopped while we were gone. AND the tumor has not grown in the last 21 days. There is a company in France that is doing research on SCC tumors and
Immunotherapy. But it is quite costly.
So basically, the vet said his Hour Glass has started and he has no idea how long Romeo will live. He just said “let him live his life.
Obviously I have been devastated over this news I have been living with for almost a month.
Now it I s in greater hands than mine. Can use all the prayers you can muster for this amazing horse who already survived a deadly disease in 2018. This time no drugs will help him. Only your prayers and God’s hand.

Throwback to April 2018 when Romeo was so sick. Sterling Wright Sr came and gave him a Pomo Blessing before we took him to the VMTH at UC Davis. Sterling said he was a Warrior Horse.

He was diagnosed with a disease that is 100% fatal without treatment. The Warrior in him won the battle after almost 8 months on 3 drugs twice a day and the supportive help from good friends Kitty Whipple, Mitzi Moyer, and Phyllis Smoller.
What a long hard journey that was!
He truly is a MIRACLE HORSE!
