🦃🐾 Thanksgiving Closure Announcement 🐾🦃

Sunrise Veterinary Services will be taking a paws 🐾 for Thanksgiving! 🦃

We will be closed on Thursday, November 28th, and Friday, November 29th to celebrate this special holiday with our loved ones.

If you need food or medication refills please be sure to contact us by Tuesday, November 26th at noon to allow us time to fulfill your request. We wanted to give you plenty of time in order for you to be able to plan ahead for your pets' medication and care needs.

We're thankful for your trust and support, and we'll be back to take care of your furry friends on Monday, December 2nd. 🐶🐱

Another tech week come and gone. Another year that I get to be in awe of the work these professionals do. I tell them often how much I appreciate the work they do, but it could never be enough. How can words ever be enough to express the gratitude I have for a team who makes me feel at home. A team that makes it easy to want to show up for everyday. Even on the hard days.

In veterinary medicine there are a lot of hard days and these vet techs are relentless in their compassion. They love their patients hard. Often sharing tearful hugs with owner's as we say goodbye to beloved pets. Pets that they, too, love.

These technicians work long hours and manage multiple appointments and hospitalized patients all at the same time. They sometimes skip lunch or eat on the go. They come in early in the morning to make sure the post-operative dog has all of his pain medications. They stay late to make sure the dehydrated cat is getting enough fluid therapy. They ask to take an iPad home to watch their patients live on camera overnight.

Our vet techs can place IV catheters and draw blood on animals as they try to bite, scratch, or fly through the air. Instead of frustration, they celebrate the victory of accomplishing their task while keeping everyone safe.

When I try to give them a break or do things by myself, they actively volunteer to help out and lend a hand. They love what they do and they do what they love. It is truly inspiring. Watching them work together, improve each other's skills, keep patients calm, and advocate for the connection of the human-animal bond is a beautiful thing. I am so proud to work side by side with the veterinary technicians of Sunrise Veterinary Services. I hope all of our clients understand that their pets are in the best, most loving, hands (literally and figuratively) when they are under the care of these vet techs.

After a very exciting spring calving season Dr. Molly wanted beef producers to have another tool to better assist with breeding heifer selection.

Pelvic measuring has been used out west for years to help decide on breeding and replacement animals. If you have a heifer with a small or abnormal pelvis, you should not use her as a replacement. Dr. Molly and Dr. Ashlee would be happy to come out to measure your heifers pelvis to evaluate if they are worth keeping as a replacement animal. It takes just a minute or two, and it can help prevent a disaster at the next calving season.

With breeding season coming up here are some things to think about PRIOR to breeding
- To avoid calving difficultly we recommend pelvic measuring heifer at ~8-9 mo to determine the the size of the pelvis
- This is achieved by using a pelvimeter to measure the area of the pelvis to determine what size calf is able to pass through with calving easy
- This tool can help eliminate heifer that have abnormal size/shaped pelvis to avoid calving dystocias
- The information gained can allow you to appropriately select bulls with birth weights acceptable for the size of the heifers.
