Save the date! It's that time of year for our annual Rabies Clinic. We are also holding a Pet Food Drive on the same date during the Clinic.

You can still participate in the Pet Food Drive even if you aren’t attending the Clinic. Simply drop off your food donation to any of our Seekonk Save A Pet volunteers at the Clinic.

All varieties are welcome but we are in need of Friskies wet cat food (Pate & Extra Gravy), Friskies dry cat food, and jarred Ge**er baby food (Chicken, Turkey, and Ham).

Congratulations to Samson and his family! When we first started working together, Samson would become anxious as soon as his parents prepared to leave. When they finally left, Samson would immediately begin barking, howling, and running from window to window. But now he spends his time alone, resting comfortably and sleeping on the couch. The only time he moves is to find more comfortable position before falling back asleep. This progress is a result of the hard work and dedication from Samson’s family and family members who volunteered to assist in the process. After three months of our home alone program, Samson’s parents felt confident and I may say more than skilled enough to take the reins. Looking forward to updates.!

This was a wonderful week. Both Jude and Brownie went to their new homes. Brownie’s foster mom from years ago called Seekonk to adopt her. Jude, now has a pittie sister! We have gotten reports and both dogs are doing great, acclimating well and are adored by their new families!

You can’t simply run the anxiety out of your dog. When this approach is used, it often results in over-exhaustion and over-arousal making it even more difficult for your dog to settle when you are gone. It can be compared to an overtired child who becomes cranky and fussy. Additionally, it’s not always realistic to provide strenuous exercise before leaving. What if you have to leave for an emergency? This method does not address the root cause of the problem, which is your dog’s fear of being alone. Systematic desensitization is a scientifically proven effective approach used to help rewire your dog’s brain to learn that being alone is safe! Meet darlin Daisy! Miss Daisy is as cute as a button but not when her parents have company over. In fact, she doesn’t like anyone, stepping onto her property, period. Daisy’s arguing, (barking and growling) start as soon as someone steps foot on their front yard and doesn’t end until they exit her home and leave the property. Her owners love her to pieces, but are exhausted by this barking and growling chorus whenever anyone comes over. This is especially trying now since they have a new grandchild and would love to have her visit. They have tried but again, Daisy would not stop shouting from the floor that family was not welcome. However, after my visit, Daisy’s parents are so hopeful. This is my first visit! As you can see, Daisy felt quite comfortable. Eventually, she almost fell asleep! We have more work to do, but this was an amazing beginning. Stay tuned!

Guess who I got to visit…Sophie formerly known as Ripley!! Her family reports she’s doing great! Over the holidays they had LOTS of guests and Sophie enjoyed every single person! Here, Sophie really didn’t get what the big deal was about her going to daycare. I just love that she’s found herself the perfect, home, family and life! This is exactly why we rescue!!!

We’ve been getting weekly updates from Ripley’s, now Sophie’s new family and things couldn’t be going better. Sophie’s making lots of new friends, doesn’t bark at people anymore and is loving everyone they introduce her to. Sophie’s mom stated that “she is exactly what our home needed. She’s just perfect!”. I’m so happy I’m bursting at the seams 🥰. Love is adoptable!!! Congratulations Sophie, you’ve found your happily ever after!!

Meet Douglas, Seekonk’s newest resident. Douglas is a pint size pit mix whose favorite place is on your lap. I had a hard time taking pics because he kept trying to climb in my lap. He is one of the loviest, snuggliest dogs. Everyone at Seekonk has fallen in love with him. His perfect home would be with kids 8 and up because Doug is a sensitive soul and will roll over and show his belly if he gets nervous. @emshindell Congratulations Samson for reaching 1 hour and 7 minutes of alone time! At the start of our Separation Anxiety Home Alone Program, Samson began exhibiting stress as soon as his parents started getting ready to leave. The instant they walked out their door, Samson would start pacing back and forth to all the windows while barking and crying. During this reassessment he spent the entire time relaxing and sleeping while his parents were gone for little over and hour. Way to go Samson and to his extremely dedicated mom and dad!
