šŸ¾ Looking to adopt a sweet girl? Meet Twilight Moon! She is a 6-year-old Golden that arrived at DVGRR from a breeder. She loves food and is very food motivated. Sheā€™ll need a mentor dog to show her the ropes and help her adjust to life in a home. Sheā€™s a quiet and sweet girl and will do best in a laid-back atmosphere. It will take some time for this really sweet girl to warm up and gain confidence and build trust.

Ready for his forever home, Vesper is a handsome black Lab that originally arrived at DVGRR in 2021 from another shelter after being found as a stray. Heā€™d been adopted and in a home for over a year; however, due to his adopterā€™s medical issues, heā€™s been returned to us. This 4-year-old has some specific challenges, including ā€œstranger danger,ā€ and it takes him time to adjust to new people. Once he gets to know you and trusts you, he likes petting and going for walks and is a nice companion. Vesper cannot live with nor interact with other pets or children. He knows a lot of obedience skills and is a staff favorite. Heā€™ll need an experienced dog owner who will need to interact with him several times at Golden Gateway before taking him home.

A generous donor has fully underwritten Vesperā€™s adoption fee.

Learn more about him at https://dvgrr.org/dogs/21-068-vesper-2023/ and if you have questions, email [email protected]!

Trick or Treaters at the Door... Tips for your dog's health
(If you're a new adopter, here are some tips to help tonight.)

First, do not leave your dog outside and unattended on Halloween. There are vicious people in the world who've been known to tease, injure, or steal pets during the Halloween season. Yes, it's inexcusable, but don't take a chance.

Indoors is the safest place for your dog on Halloween night, but remember that there will be a lot of door-bell ringing and doors opened continually. And those doors will be opened to strangers looking strange. Your dog may panic and try to bolt or may react with uncharacteristic aggression. The best solution is to keep your dog secured in another room or in a crate during the time trick or treaters will be canvassing your neighborhood.

Halloween is a great time to check your dog's collar and tags to make sure both are in good shape! Make sure if you're putting a costume on your dog, it works with his collar and tags remaining on.

Lastly, always ensure you have the latest picture of your dog on your phone, so if your dog slips away to do his own trick or treating, you have a photo to quickly show neighbors who you're looking for. Take a clear head photo and a full body photo, and any other photo noting any special features your dog may have.

Be safe and have fun tonight!

A Very Special Thank You!

Over the years, DVGRR volunteer, Shelby Kramer shared many stories about the rescue and encouraged her dad to choose DVGRR as the recipient for a prestigious award from Carpenter Technology. Rick's team won and presented DVGRR with a check for $20,000!

Here's Rick's explanation of the award process:

Every year Carpenter Technology encourages teams of employees to showcase their accomplishments and impact to the company. Competition categories range from safety initiatives to production improvements to talent engagement. Entries are presented in short videos judged by a board of executives. We refer to them as Impact Awards, and competition is very tight. We have many talented, hard-working employees. Three winners are selected from each of the five categories. This year we had over 120 entries in all five categories.

A top winner is selected for each of the five categories with a grand champion selected as the overall winner. With each win, the teams are given more money to donate to their favorite charity. This year, my team entered a safety video based on our portable lockout station. The portable station was built and used for instructing employees on the rules and reasons behind our lockout program.

We not only won the safety category but took overall grand champion. We chose DVGRR because of all the wonderful stories and positive experiences my daughter, Shelby, has had while volunteering at the rescue. Winning overall champion was beyond our wildest dreams.

On behalf of the Portable Lockout Team, let me say thank you for all you do and the service you provide for our furry friends.

Sincerely,

Rick Kramer, Team Captain

Ready for her forever home, Rosie #27 is a 4-year-old Golden that originally came from a breeder and her previous owner couldnā€™t get her to adjust in the home. Sheā€™s really great with other dogs and loves to play. She should go to a home with a mentor. Also, her previous owner reported that she had some noise phobia regarding anything loud (e.g., lawn mower, chain saw), so a quiet home will be best. She does okay on leash but is nervous. Rosie is a really sweet girl.

Ready for his forever home, Oscar #6 is a 4-year-old Golden that was surrendered by his previous owner. Heā€™s a big, handsome boy thatā€™s also very strong. He guards things, so heā€™ll have to be the only dog in the home, and no cats or kids for him either. He can be nervous in new environments, but once he gets to know you, heā€™s a really lovable guy and will snuggle up for attention. He likes tennis balls and toys as well as playing tug. Ready for her forever home, Mirasol is an 8-year-old mini Goldendoodle that arrived at DVGRR from a breeder. Despite her small size, sheā€™s a solid dog. Sheā€™s skittish and timid around people but is generally pretty laid back. Sheā€™s showing signs of feeling more at ease with people the longer sheā€™s here. This girl needs a patient adopter and a good mentor dog to help her adjust to a new home. It will take time and patience for Mirasol to develop trust and build confidence.
