Fun Fact Friday: GSPs 🐾

Fun fact: German Shorthaired Pointers have partly webbed feet and a short coat that sheds water. They’re built to swim! 🌊
Bonus: their speckled spots are one of a kind—no two patterns are the same.

Why they’re unique to train:
• Big energy + love to chase. Provide real exercise, followed by short, clear training.
• Practice COME (recall), PLACE (go to your mat), and calm walking.
• Add nose games and fetch to keep their brain busy.

GSP parents—tell us your dog’s quirks! Do they freeze in a point? Dive into any puddle? Do the happy butt-wiggle on “COME”? Share a pic! 📸

Tongue Out Thursday 😛🐶

Your dog’s tongue = built-in A/C. Quick read:
• Relaxed jaw + steady pant → comfy, ready to work
• Fast, shallow pant + tense body → stress/heat—create space, cool down
• Mid-session reset: send to PLACE, slow your pace, add a calm break
• Hot day? Shade, water, early/late walks, and check the ground temp

Trainer tip: If the tongue says “I’m done,” end on a win and pick it up later. 💪

Flex those training skills go beyond the basics with the 3D Flex (Distance • Duration • Distraction):

Enhance your training skills by going beyond the basics with the 3D Flex (Distance • Duration • Distraction):

- Distance: Send your dog to the PLACE command from 15–30 feet away and have them hold the position.
- Duration: Walk your dog in a HEEL position for one lap, then have them sit or lie down for 60 seconds.
- Distraction: Pass by carts, doors, and toys while maintaining a neutral leash. Keep your dog focused on you.

Bonus Challenge: Conduct a silent set by using hand signals only for cues.

Level Up: Introduce new surfaces, switch handlers, and practice with your dog out of sight for 10 seconds.

Remember, no food rewards—use clear cues, calm praise, and clean releases. 🎯

Training Tip Tuesday: E-collars = communication, not punishment. 🎯🐾

We use a low-level, tactile cue to help your dog focus around distractions.

• Is: gentle tap reinforcing HERE/HEEL/PLACE
• Isn’t: punishment or last-resort
• How: find working level → pair with cue → release on compliance
• Safety: pro fit + rotate contact

Fun Fact Friday: Ears Up! 👂🐶✨

Why do some dogs’ ears stand up?

Genetics & cartilage: Some breeds are born with “prick ears” (think Shepherds, Huskies, Corgis). Their ear cartilage naturally firms into an upright shape.

Puppy teething = yo-yo ears: 4–6 months is a remodel phase—ears may pop up, flop, then pop up again as cartilage develops. Totally normal.

18 ear muscles: Dogs can swivel each ear independently to track sound—built-in radar! 📡

Body language: Ears forward often = alert/curious; relaxed back = calm/submissive; sideways “airplane” = unsure. Read the whole dog, not just the ears.

Health check: A sudden change, odor, or head-shaking? Time for a quick ear check and maybe a vet visit.

Trainer tip: When those ears lock onto a distraction, that’s your cue—use HERE or PLACE to refocus before the pull starts. 💪

Thoughtful Thursday | We Remember 9/11 🇺🇸🐾

Today we pause to honor the lives lost, the families forever changed, and the courage of first responders—and the working dogs and handlers who searched, comforted, and served. We remember their bravery, unity, and love in the face of unimaginable loss.

May we carry that spirit forward in how we show up for our community, our teammates, and our dogs—calm, steady, and kind.

Pack Walk Wednesday 🐾👟

Round up 1–3 dog friends + humans for a structured pack walk—social time without the chaos.

How to do it:
• Start parallel, 3–6 ft space bubble (no nose-to-nose)
• Neutral leash, steady pace; practice HERE/HEEL as you go
• At stops: 20–30 sec PLACE/SIT, calm praise, then roll on
• Rotate who leads, switch sides halfway, finish with a quiet cool-down

Structured miles = social smiles. Tag your pack pics! 📸

Training Tip Tuesday: Bringing Baby Home 👶🐶🍼

Getting ready for the tiniest new pack member? Here’s your calm-dog game plan

Before baby (2–4 weeks out)
• Teach/refresh: PLACE, LEAVE IT, QUIET ✅
• Play low-volume baby sounds while your dog relaxes 🎧; mark calm with quiet praise
• Practice stroller walks and door manners 🚪🛒
• Scent swap: let your dog investigate a baby blanket first 🧺
• Set up gates/“no-go” zones and make the crate/place a safe den 🛏️

Homecoming day
• Exercise first to lower excitement 🐕‍🦺➡️😌
• Let a handler greet the dog outside; bring baby in calmly
• Start with the blanket, then a brief leashed hello—praise calm and end early ✅

Weeks 1–4
• Short daily reps: send to PLACE during feeds/diaper changes ⏱️
• Provide non-food enrichment on their mat (durable toy, quiet settle time) 🧸
• Watch stress signals (lip licking, yawning, whale eye) and give space 👀
• Golden rule: Never leave dog + baby unsupervised. 💛
