A huge part of what drives our urban farm is the garden-education component. Microgreens offer a unique opportunity for individuals to get hands-on garden exposure, from wherever they are. With no need for special infrastructure or outdoor space, our various educational programs aim to remove many of the barriers that exist surrounding this special type of learning.

Plus, their quick grow cycle allows for near instant results! Many varieties are ready to harvest in as soon as 10 days after sowing. 🌱

We specialize in programs for kiddos and seniors. Our offerings range from hands-on planting classes to DIY grow-kits. We aim to provide folks with the tools and know-how, allowing them to feel confident in their ability to grow their own food. We even tie in sustainably information, nutrition science, and recipe inspiration. Our goal with all of this is to support community health in tangible ways!

Finally - our solution for those who want their micros minus the packaging!

How it works:

These will be grown to order and may have a pre-order delay of up to two weeks (mostly for specialty varieties).

Our living microgreens are grown in 10x10 reusable trays, and will require a tray deposit. We do this to encourage tray returns, as we work to maintain as close to a closed-loop system as possible.

You can then harvest as needed over the next week or two for fresh microgreens with no waste!

Option 1: Subscribe for weekly or biweekly pick-up or delivery. You can skip or cancel at any time, and can change varieties weekly if desired.

Option 2: Pre-order for one time purchase (pick-up or delivery options available).

You can order in person at any of our markets, or through our website www.growthandgreens.com 🌱

We will be bringing a handful of these ready-to-harvest trays to this Sunday to kick off the program. Looking to get a jump on our living greens? We will have Rambo Radish, Arugula, Spicy Mustard, and Cabbage ready for ya!

Broccoli Microgreens are a crowd favorite for good reason. With a mild + earthy taste, these greens are versatile and can blend with any meal (or smoothie!).

While many of our varieties have strong flavors, broccoli micros are not one of them. What gets people so excited about these babies actually has to do with their impressive nutrient profile.

While all microgreens are categorized as a Functional Food (foods that provide measurable physiological benefits to the consumer ~ this goes beyond micronutrients), the scientific research community has really emphasized the power of broccoli microgreens due to their high levels of sulforaphane. Sulforaphane is a phytochemical known for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer qualities. Heart, brain, and gut health are some other big areas of interest in relation to broccoli microgreens.

I could go on and on. As the many benefits of these mighty greens continue to be explored and better understood… it’s safe to say they are seriously good for us, and a very convenient way to fuel our bodies in a way that supports health and longevity. 🌱

Our Spicy Salad Mix looking as delish as ever! This variety is one of our top sellers (we go through many pounds per week), and for good reason. It is flavorful, fresh and crunchy, plus oh so versatile.

We use this mix daily. We add on top of eggs, use in sandwiches, on avo toast, with bagels and cream cheese, topping curries …or really any savory dish … the possibilities go on.

Snag this favorite by stopping by weekly market, or by ordering through with their Harvest to Order program.

Edible flowers coming soon! And just in time for spring it seems 🌸

Our Nasturtiums are starting to bloom and our Borage isn’t far behind.

I’m seeing spring salads sprinkled with flowers, bright cakes decorated with these gems, and cocktails+mocktails finished off with one of these edible delights. We are looking forward to adding these beauties to our weekly offerings!

Micro arugula brings that signature peppery flavor of mature arugula - but taken up a notch. The bold flavor of micro arugula pairs wonderfully with basically anything savory. Lately we have been loving it on top of mushroom risotto, on eggs, sandwiches, in salads, and on avo toast.

Figured it’s about time to show some face around here!

My name is Lily and I run this one-woman show. My background is a mashup of nutrition science, food system studies, sustainable agriculture, and garden-based education initiatives. My goal of bringing all of these faucets together in support of community health is what led to the creation of Growth & Greens a little over a year ago.

We grow a variety of 18+ specialty microgreens and love coming up with creative mixes to showcase the bold flavors of these powerful greens.

Alongside our farm operation, we are creating garden-learning resources utilizing microgreens in place of more traditional crops. This approach allows for increased access to this special type of learning, which is something I am very passionate about facilitating. This year is full of collaboration in the farm-to-classroom world and we are so excited to share what is on the horizon!

One (of the many) things we love about microgreens is how sustainable they are to grow. That being said, the packaging that goes along with these delicate greens is no doubt the biggest waste product within our operation. We knew this going in, which is why we were thoughtful about our packaging choice.

From day one, we have used only PLA packaging shipped from a carbon neutral distributor. And while this plant-based plastic alternative is technically compostable, they are only able to break down when processed through an industrial compost facility… which are few and far between.

Because of this, we try to reuse packaging whenever possible. While we are not able to reuse for microgreens (health department no-no), we do utilize used packaging that our customers bring us for our various garden-education projects and growing workshops. And we are always on the lookout for the next improved plastic packaging alternative.

All that to say, you can rest assured that we are mindful in our business choices and strive to be as sustainable as possible. We are always ready to switch our approach to follow current best practices. And we are not ones to buy into or perpetuate green-wash marketing.

So here’s to progress over perfection, and small choices that add to the collective shift towards improved sustainability.

The weekly Harvest to Order micro drop is complete ✔️

Purchasing local, freshly harvested food is made easy because of the work being done . They remove logistical barriers by connecting farmers to consumers, and our Reno/Tahoe foodshed is richer because of it! We love being involved with such mission driven organizations.

Just some late night harvesting here on our little farm 🌱

Most of the work around here gets done in these quiet hours. With the kids sleeping, I’m able to leave the main house and make my way to our grow space. I’m able to carve out time to focus my energy on these babies for a bit. The fluid way my family and business can move together is something I will forever be grateful for.

This night shift life also means that our greens are freshly harvested, always within 24 hours of purchase+delivery and usually much less. This is one of the reasons our micros last so long. The impressive shelf-life of our microgreens is one the most common feedback points we get from customers, and we love to hear it.

See you tomorrow 9-12! Nothing beats fresh greens in the middle of January.

One of the things that make microgreens so versatile is their ability to grow on a variety of mediums. From h**p to mesh mats, many micro varieties thrive as long as their roots have somewhere to cling onto.

We choose to grow our microgreens exclusively using soil. Their quality cannot be beat, and the fact that this rich soil comes with such minimal transport miles makes it an easy choice for us. Our post-harvest waste (stems, soil, and root matter) makes a wonderful compost and is donated to in support of their community gardens.

Soil allows us to grow a larger variety of microgreens and to feel good about our “waste” (if you can even call it that!). We love the quality of greens we get from using this local soil and feel good about keeping our sources as close to home as possible.

Let’s welcome Carrot Microgreens to our ever-growing line up!

These micros are delicate + flavorful, and are harvested once their first true leaf comes in. They have a mildly sweet carrot taste, making them a wonderful addition to a variety of savory dishes.

Carrot microgreens are very nutritionally dense, containing high levels of vitamin A, vitamin K, many different amino acids, and are also rich in antioxidants.

You can pick up this lovely variety (while supplies last) this Sunday or through (ordering opens tomorrow at 5pm).

This mix was created specially for one of our local chefs, and was so good that decided to give it a permanent place in our line up!

Our Summer Salad Mix is made up of Sunflower, Cantaloupe, and Leek microgreens. Crisp and flavorful, we love to pair it with a strong cheese and fruit (fresh or dried) and a balsamic reduction. But this mix was originally made for tacos, so clearly it is versatile.

We are always able to create custom mixes, and with our ever growing varieties (we currently grow 18+ types of micros!) the possibilities are near endless.

Nasturtium microgreens are the newest variety found in our grow room, and they are a welcome addition! These greens have a strong peppery flavor and beautifully detailed leaves, making them a bold addition to any salad or a lovely garnish for a variety of dishes.

Staying true to the nature of microgreens, nasturtium greens have an impressive nutritional profile. They have notably high levels of vitamins A, C, and K, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, zinc, copper, and iron.

Welcome back, micro basil!

We are currently growing Genovese Basil Micros. This variety has a bold basil flavor (stronger than mature basil) and they are harvested after their first true leaves come in.

We use basil micros as the star of our Micro Pesto Mix (along with sunflower shoots and micro leek). Basil micros are also great in salads - especially caprese - pastas, and topping pizza.

Nutritionally speaking, micro basil is well documented to have powerful anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities. Basil microgreens are also rich in a variety of micronutrients and minerals such as vitamins E, A, K, B6, and C, calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, copper, phosphorous, and potassium. Talk about a heavy hitter!

You can find our micro basil as apart of our Pesto Mix this week at Romano’s Farmers Market, , and .

Micro Beets are no doubt our most eye-catching variety.

With their bright red stems and leaves which vary between green and red, these contrasting colors are a lovely addition to any savory dish. It makes sense why they are a favorite among our local chefs!

It’s said that we eat with our eyes first. These gorgeous greens let all of us create colorful dishes with ease!

We love these in salads to provide pops color and earthy flavor. They are also great in sandwiches and wraps, or topping anything savory (think meats, veg, or seafood).

The benefits of these micros go far beyond looks!

Beet microgreens are the definition of eating the rainbow. They are rich in a variety if micronutrients (vitamins A, B6, C, K, thiamine, riboflavin, zinc, copper, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium…) and phytochemicals - especially Lycopene. Lycopene protects cells from gene-damaging free radicals, helping prevent a variety of chronic health conditions.

You’ve just gotta love a functional food that is vibrant+tasty. These micros don’t disappoint!

Pesto Mix!

This combo of micro basil, sunflower shoots, and micro leek is full of flavor and screams summer.

We love to blend this mix up into a easy pesto sauce (add some olive oil, salt+pepper, Parmesan or nutritional yeast). We also use this mix as a salad base or in sandwiches.

The sunflower shoots give a nutty flavor, basil micros are bold, and leek micros taste like onion+garlic.

This mix will now be a staple and you can find it available (until sold out) at any of our markets.
