As a working service dog Rockwell has a lot of responsibility! He needs to be able to perform his tasks in every situation- that can include working in serious heat, cold, noise, & distractions. There are several tools that can aid him in being comfortable working in different situations, and goggles are a fabulous way to protect his eyes when they’re exposed to bright light for long periods. We are helping him get comfortable wearing them by slowly positively conditioning it. Just like we would for a muzzle! 😎

Some dogs need a lot of help learning how to just relax- and dogs require a lot of rest! Kovu is a party animal, and a phenomenal adventure buddy. But he struggles to take a break! We’ve been using calming music & massage to help condition a relaxed mindset in different contexts 🐝

Part 1

This summer, my son Seth who is 7 really wanted to help recall Ripken with the e-collar. I haven't let him do this before because I wanted to make sure he understood the levels of the e-collar and what turning it up meant and felt like so that he didn't just mess around with it and crank it really high. This is the first time he's feeling the collar in his life and I just happened to video it because I thought it would be a cute reaction. You can tell that the power is on and that I'm hitting the buttons. The buttons click when they're being held down and you can also see the green light on the remote at the top go solid when the stim is being communicated to the collar.

This is exactly how I start a dog on an e-collar. I would turn it up really really slowly and wait for some subtle reaction. I then turn it down a few levels and start training.

Next video is him working with Ripken and you can see what levels Rip is at.

I am a huge believer of remote collar training for dogs but it must be done correctly. Please do not just crank the levels up until you think your dog is feeling it. There are many many subtle reactions that dogs have to the stimulus and a lot of dogs don't even react. If you are considering doing remote collar training please hire a professional who is trained and well-versed in remote collar training.

Brandy is here for a little booster day with the trainers! After a full year of lessons where she learned to hike off leash, walk nicely on leash, get comfortable in a muzzle, and learn how to navigate stress better-she’s almost ready for her board and train! Keep an eye out in September to see Brandy keep growing ❤️‍🔥

Our Story

Since opening Dog Gone Amazing in 2008, it was our vision to provide a safe, clean and social facility that offered first-rate training and care for dogs. We have traveled the country working with other dog trainers and world-renowned experts to develop our library of skills so that we can help people unleash their dog’s true potential. We believe that every dog deserves a chance to learn and we know that every dog has the potential to be AMAZING. Dog training is more than just teaching obedience. It’s about providing dogs with the opportunity to live as trusted, well-loved and valued family members.

Our greatest wish is to help people enjoy their dogs to the fullest and to help dogs enjoy a life full of love and true freedom. Our personal promise is that our team will help you and your dog right where you’re at and provide our 100% effort and focus in helping you reach your goals.

OVERVIEW Our primary focus at Dog Gone Amazing is to provide transformative training for dogs and families of all shapes and sizes. However, because we truly believe that training is a lifestyle we also offer member-only boarding and daycare. Our dog boarding and daycare programs are designed to help your dog stay up-to-scruff on their training while receiving essential socialization and heart-healthy exercise. We pride ourselves on being a training-first community which means that all the dogs attending boarding or daycare have completed one of our Advanced or Masters training programs. This allows us to provide a calm and orderly environment while also ensuring safety for all. At Dog Gone Amazing, your dog isn’t just 1 in 100, they have a close bond with our trainers and can count on us as a home-away-from-home.

NEW LOCATION - JULY 2019 In July 2019, Dog Gone Amazing grew from our 1200 sq. ft. facility and added on a second location that is nearly 7,000 sq. ft. in Downtown, Reno. The new location acts as the primary center for dog training and boarding services, as well as, future training events and classes. Our location on S. Virginia St remains as a member-only day care center.
