Thank you everyone for your support during this tough day. While the fate of the Rubicon Husky Ranch is TBD, all the huskies have been evacuated and are safe. They will be staying with fosters, staff, and volunteers for the time being.

Unfortunately we were not able to get the dogs food, beds, supplies, etc. out during the emergency evacuation. Your donations are more important now than ever. If you are able, please support these poor dogs.

We have some emergency temporary fosters, but if you are willing to foster long term, or even better adopt a great husky, please contact us at [email protected]. We cover all dog related expenses for our fosters.

Ace, Aspen, Oreo, Kiwi and Strawberry are all eligible for adoption.

Do you feel this comfortable walking your dog off leash?

01/16/2022

It’s that time of year…

TIP from your local neighbourhood FARMER!
Over the next 4-6 weeks it’s mating season for coyotes. Please do not let your dogs out alone or on the walking trail unleashed, have your dog on a leash (you should anyway that’s what’s posted at the entrance on the waking trails)

*Coyote breeding typically peaks in late January and early March, the gestation period averages 58 to 63 days.

Male coyotes can become more aggressive during this time of year, the long and short of it all is that coyotes always pose a risk to your dog (and other small pets such as cats).

Coyotes are a way of life for us livestock farmers your neighbours in this community so hopefully this will better help and understand the risks this time of year. This is also the time of year that livestock Guardian dogs are on extra patrol and are more vocal.

Big kudos to 5 month old Milo! He's doing a great job learning that he can only go after toys when and where WE say so.

The snow is melting fast in Reno, but there's still snowballs aplenty just up the hill!

Amazing local organization!

Did you know...

that we provide help to an upwards of 64 dogs per day? We don't go home at the end of the day when the clock hits a set time, we go home when every dog has received the service they came here for. Here is the breakdown:

Per Day:
35 “live in”dogs
10 overnight support
15 drop off for behavior training
2-4 for one on one coaching, intensive training or Behavior Consultations

The most beautiful thing happens here every day and its called progress. GO TEAM!

Did you know that dogs need more food in the winter? It takes a lot of energy to stay warm under those snowballs!

The Utah Humane Society recommends feeding working dogs 15% more for every 20 degree drop in temperatures. They also recommend adding a little fat to your dog's food to help give them longer lasting energy. As always, reach out to your vet for recommendations specific to your dog

Which dog has the greater motivation to be obedient: the dog who has access to all his toys 24/7 or the dog who has to work to earn toy time? Toys are a privilege, reward, and great motivation for training. Use them to your advantage!

With snowy fun comes lots of paw care! Some tips to keep your pup's feet feeling fine:

1) Trim the nails to limit toe splaying and minimize crud building up in there.
2) Trim but don't shave the foot fur. You need some cushion but the more hair, the more snowballs.
3) Thoroughly wash and dry paws after outings to get dangerous salts and de-icers off.
4) Use a balm or moisturizer to prevent against cracks.

Happy snow play!

All work and no play makes Jack a dull dog! Don't get so caught up in training that you forget to have FUN with your dog.

Where does your dog get his joy?
The answer should be you! You are the keeper of his joy!

If your dog is food motivated, he should get his kibble from you not from the food dish. If he loves toys, he gets them from you not the toy basket. Teach your dog that all good things come from you and you can train him to do anything.
