Who remembers Kobe, the young Shiba that we rehomed in July? Sadly, he needs to be rehomed again. He is a sweet boy, but has developed a strong resource guarding habit, resulting in biting incidents with his humom and hudad. They love Kobe, but realize he needs a different environment with a strong Alpha human who can establish trust and respect. Additionally, he been on his own while his owners teach and has developed a bit of separation anxiety. Other than this, he’s a sweetheart. He needs a home with a very experienced Shiba owner who is able to work through his resource guarding issues with positive reinforcement and consistenty. Ideally, with a human who is around most of the time to develop trust and establish the appropriate hierarchy. Absolutely no children. A female Shiba would be ideal as both a companion and role model. Please PM us ASAP if you can help Kobe begin a new chapter in his short life.

Today is a very sad day for Northern Nevada Shiba Rescue. JackJack came to live with us in 2009, he was an owner surrender that claimed he had his back leg slammed in a car door. The reality was that he had a severe distrust for all humans. He loved to play with the other dogs, but in the house he wanted to be in his crib. He would let us hold him, but only for a few seconds. It was very sad that he never got over the abuse he must have suffered as a puppy. He lived for 16 years and today his little body couldn't go on. Sadly, I couldn't be there with him to say goodbye, but he was in good company and not alone. We will miss him but look forward to seeing him again on the other side of the rainbow bridge.

I have been sprung! Thank you, K9ReUnite for finding me and reaching out to NNSR. Thank you Humane Societyof Silicon Valley for taking me in and helping me put on a few pounds while in your care. I’m truly a different dog than the one brought in at the end of September! Now on to my foster home! Stay tuned for my Happy Evfur After!

Please meet Oliver. A 3 year old Shiba who was humanely caught in Sunnyvale by K9Reunite. As you can see by his exposed ribs, he’s either been on his own for a long time or severely neglected. He’s not chipped and has been very skittish when he came into the shelter. His stray hold is up, and the shelter would like to release him to us. He’s made good progress with the behavioral team and is slowly learning how to trust people. We are looking for a foster who can work slowly with him to build his confidence and bring him back to good health. He’s okay with small dogs but has not been tested with big dogs. Ideally, he should be in a quiet home where he can be reintroduced to consistent and calm attention to help him gain confidence while he also gains some much needed weight. If you know of someone who might be able to help this poor boy, please PM us.

We’ve been sprung! Up to date with all our vaccinations and ready for our next chapter with our amazing foster mom!
Thank you to the Good Samaritan who found us and brought us to safety!

Please say hello to Bonzai and Geisha! These 12 week old pups were found in a box yesterday and a Good Samaritan delivered them to San Francisco Animal Care & Control. NNSR has a long history of working with SFACC, so they reached out to us to see if we could help, as these cuties are definitely part Shiba! They are only bonded as littermates, so they can be fostered or adopted independently. We are hoping that one of these pups grabs your heart! Please PM us if you can help these cute pups find their furever homes!
P.S. Bonzai is the bouncy boy…Geisha, with her long hair is the more reserved girl.

Introducing Kobe, a very young intact male, surrendered to the Mariposa County Shelter, one day after he was bought off of Craig’s List. The new owner said that Kobe bit him while he was wrestling with Kobe, and he didn’t want to keep him. Skin was broken, so Kobe was put into mandatory quarantine, as there was no proof of a rabies vaccination. The MCS staff thought something was amiss with the story and the owner, as Kobe seemed very sweet during the days of his quarantine. MCS is a high kill shelter, without a neutering clinic, so he could not be directly rehomed, therefore he’d be euthanized. Thankfully, MCS staff reached out to an all breed rescue called Friends of the Animal Community in Sonora, that brought him to safety and contacted us. We will be picking him up this week, bringing him up to date with all vaccinations and getting him neutered. Given that we have yet to assess him (but are told that he is “a sweetheart” and wags his tail at other dogs) we are hopeful that he will thrive with an experienced Shiba owner. His ideal home will not have young children and if there is another dog, it should be a female. If you are interested in meeting or fostering this cutie, please send us a PM. Hi Evfurryone! I went to the
V-E-T today! I have received a clean bill of health and was brought up to date with ALL shots for my age. The nice lady Doctor thinks I’m about
1 1/2 years old. My teeth need attention, but other than that, I’m healthy as a horse! Get me to the Preakness! I’m Zoomee!

Zumi is settling into her foster home. She’s sniffing out and about and meeting new people. She’s super friendly to strangers, walks well on a leash and is a champ at relaxing quietly!

Please welcome Zumi (pronounced Zoo-mi) to the NNSR family. She was found as a stray in Stockton in February. A wonderful family took her until she could be reunited with her family. But, after 3 months, Zumi needs a furever home. She’s young, sweet and speedy. If anyone recognizes her, please PM us. If no owner can be verified, she is up for adoption, once she’s been seen by a vet, has had her health assessed, brought up to date with vaccinations and spayed.

It’s Leap Day on Leap Year 2024! While I’m not able to leap for joy, yet, look at me on my 10 minute walk…with my foster sister! Thanks to everyone who has contributed to helping me on my journey. I am truly a Shiba reborn! NNSR funded my surgery and still needs donations to help other Shibas in need. Will you please share this page so that other people see my progress and maybe help fund other Shibas in need? Thank you! xoMichi

Michi returned to the vet to have her staples removed. She was greeted by the ENTIRE team at Pacific & Santa Cruz Vet Specialists like a hero returning from combat. Which, in a way she is, after her two broken legs. Dr. Kalff was thrilled with her progress and expects her to make a full recovery! We are only at about 30% of our $10,000 goal for funding her surgery, so any and all donations are gratefully received AND 100% tax deductible, as we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue. Thanks to everyone cheering on this resilient girl as she continues to recover!
