Our beautiful mountain may look a little different, but our building still stands strong🐾🧡
Yesterday afternoon a small brush fire was spotted just over Rattlesnake Mountain. A Reno PD officer made their way over to our facility to give us a warning that the winds had shifted and he was worried for the 70 dogs that were blissfully unaware of the situation.
We have a thorough evacuation plan in place and we knew your pups were safe Inside, but the fire was moving quick and still no fire crews were in sight...only an NDF representative who said there was no help avallable. Our owners, investors, 2 staff members and a client (whose dogs weren’t even at AP) continued fighting the fire ourselves. The rest of the team was caring for all of your dogs, helping keep owners informed, and doing the best they could to stand back and keep the flow going inside.
Fortunately, from day one we knew we had to prepare and always be ready for any such Incidents. We were able to soak the hill well before the fire reached us. The majority of our property is concrete, stone, stone roofing and metal. We always have hoses and extinguishers available and that combined with the helpfulness of all our neighbors and customers, we were able to tackle the fire and keep anything from spreading on this side of the mountain, to our facility and any other neighboring businesses. The fire was quick burning, we had a good amount of defensible space, the fire was not extremely hot and the rain hit right after we extinguished the fire.
We are so thankful to our community of businesses here on Terabyte Ct. and offered to help transport and store dogs, clients were offering their own cars and trailers, and Oak Harbor made a special appearance this morning to thank the crew for saving their facility and offer some much needed caffeine. Lasty, a special thank you to a client who came in after seeing the flames from their house. He brought fire extinguishers and a wealth of knowledge, putting himself right in front of the flames to help us all out.
