After a few sessions Lola has a solid loose leash walk along with basic obedience and a pretty good recall. This is still the learning stage while we've done proofing work. She's doing great and will only improve from here.
The condition that some dogs come into rescues and shelters can be heartbreaking. Rusty has been at WARF - Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (Incline Village, NV) since 08/30/24. This is only his second time out of his kennel area. Every move forward requires a lot of effort on Rusty's part. We need to be patience but also help him find a way to progress. He is not ready for adoption but I'm confident he will see his world open up and we will see this guy build enough confidence around people to be able to walk on leash.

Getting some flexi lead use in. Want your dog to know their name and come to you when called? This is a good way to start. Toss the food call their name click reward on return.
Leeloo starting work in the dopamine box AKA The Black Box of Death. This is something that is extremely hard for a fearful dog to do. When their head is fully in the box it creates a sense of vulnerability. She has to manage her fears to get the food at the bottom. Future sessions she will learn to keep her head in the box to keep the food coming. We can then create more pressure through sounds touch and leash. Huge confidence builder and will help her gain the ability to tune out fearful distractions.
Summit a shelter rescue dog workin that newly learned loose leash skill. I love it. This not only makes the owners life easier but will drastically imporve Summits lifestyle. I wasnt there but was told not only is he walking nearly perfect he stood his ground and didnt break his loose leash after being charged by a pack of vicious Chihuahua's.

Chico is a great dog but has gotten himself into a little bit of trouble with law enforcement. He wandered out of his yard and got into a argument with a neighbor. We're going to teach him without commands that he cannot leave his yard even if the gate is open. If he wants to yell "GOOD MORNING MY NEIGHBORS" thats fine but it has to be on his side of the fence.
I've been volunteering at Lyon County Animal Services for over 3 years now. I've learned a lot gained a ton of experience. The staff have become amazing friends. When I started the only volunteer was Susan who I'm sure will remember some of these dogs. We now have a regular rotation of volunteers which is awesome. These are pics from the first 2 years. I didnt have a song long enough to fit everything I wanted. The dogs in this video have all left me with something. Happy memories sad memories and learning experiences. Some of you watching this video may also remember all these dogs. I hope you enjoy the memories as I have even if it makes your eyes water as it did mine.
The first pic is a dog named Troubles. This was the first pic of the first dog on my first day at the shelter. The last pic is Larry one of the best dog friends/working partners I've had at the shelter.
And thank you Leslie for your support.
Aries is killing loose leash walking. This guy is currently available for adoption at WARF - Wylie Animal Rescue Foundation (Incline Village, NV). I love watching the transformation of a dog that comes into a rescue or shelter sometimes off deaths doorstep with zero obedience skills. This is Aries second leash lesson he was a big time puller with zero leash manors. Look at him now.

Diego. Cant help but love this guy. He's come a long ways since he was surrendered to the shelter. He's energetic loves to play super motivated and easy to train. With a little more work this is a dog that can make all your friends jealous wishing they had such a well behaved dog.
Meet is Ocho, he is available for adoption at Lyon County Animal Services.
Currenlty working with Ocho on basic commands. Sit, down, place and loose leash walking. This is Ocho's second 15min clicker session. I like to teach sit and down this way because it builds a solid training base and works for the dogs that dont respond to some of the typical ways to train these commands. This method works very well for dogs that are very energetic and distracted or what we like to think of as out of control.
